00:49Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Delsu Studios in Havana,
00:53Cuba.
00:54We begin with the news.
00:55The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, congratulated the Venezuelan people for their
01:00wide participation in the elections of judges of peace on December 15th, coinciding with
01:05the 25th anniversary of the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
01:11The head of state announced that he will call for next January 26th for the first popular
01:15consultation of the coming year, the purpose of opening 2025 with new communal projects.
01:21In declarations to Venezolana de Televisión, he committed that Venezuela will have four
01:26fixed consultations per year, plus two others to approve projects for the youth and projects
01:31linked to culture.
01:32Maduro described as beautiful the election day to elect justices and congratulated the
01:38citizens elected in this historic day of December 15th, 2024, when for the first time justices
01:44of peace were elected by direct vote of the Venezuelan people.
01:54And Venezuela keeps building a different kind of government and democracy, a process that
01:58was evidenced with the massive turnout for the election of justices of communal peace.
02:03Details, the correspondent Gladys Quezada.
02:08Close to 20 million Venezuelans were summoned to the polls once again this Sunday, this
02:13time to elect the justices of the peace, an instance of the communal power designed
02:19to settle minor disputes, family or neighborhood unrest, as well as to maintain order and civility
02:26within each commune.
02:28It is the first vote of this kind in the country.
02:34Today we are very happy and grateful to God because since very early in the morning we
02:39are here in the voting center to exercise our right to vote and thus continue to ensure
02:46the peace of our country, Venezuela, as our President Nicolas Maduro has indicated.
02:55From here we can show the whole world that we are a symbol of peace, Venezuela is a symbol
03:00of peace, and that is why I exercise my right to vote on this beautiful Sunday.
03:07The opening of the center was at 8 o'clock in the morning without any inconvenience.
03:11Thank God we have had enough people coming to the center.
03:14So far there are no problems at the voting center.
03:18This process will officially see 15,000 peace justices and their respective alternates elected
03:25from among 52,288 registered candidates.
03:31Thus, it is in compliance with the provisions of the Organic Law of the Special Communal
03:37Justice of the Peace Jurisdiction approved last November.
03:43This is the result that we are offering the revolution.
03:46This is the proof that our President Nicolas Maduro can count on the organized people,
03:50on the popular power, on the communal councils, on the local committees of supply and production
03:54and the communes, to continue advancing and transforming our beautiful Venezuela.
04:01With this voting, the nation also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Covenant Constitution
04:07approved under the government of late Commander Hugo Chavez.
04:11The Covenant leaders know its value.
04:17Today we are seeing the popular power, and 25 years ago we were moving as a Venezuelan
04:22people, exercising our right to vote.
04:26And we managed to reach 71%, more than 71% voted yes to this Constitution of the Bolivarian
04:33Republic of Venezuela, which is allowing us today to crystallize that Article 258.
04:41We all said yes to that Article 258, which is currently being implemented in each of
04:46the territories, when it says that all justices of peace must be elected by a direct, secret
04:52and universal election.
04:55Venezuela advances in the construction of the communal state, the future of popular
04:59governance and the conception of horizontal structures from the people and with the people.
