Over 1,000 Santas descend on central London
Around 1,200 cycling Santas descended on central London on Saturday, December 14, adding a splash of color to the capital as part of a fundraising event to support a children’s charity.
Onlookers gazed on in amazement as the army of Santas cycled down Pall Mall towards Buckingham Palace. Dressed in red Santa suits, some as elves with faces painted green, they toured the capital to collect money.
The event marked the 10th edition of annual Santa cruise, set up by BMX cycling enthusiast Stephane Wright, who got the idea for the event after receiving support from the Echo charity after his son was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack aged only six months.

00:00They've got flares as well, but I don't know if we're going to...
00:27Originally, this was started ten years ago. Tommy was in hospital. He had been hospitalised
00:52due to a near-fatal heart attack. When I was in hospital, we received charity from ECHO
00:59in the form of somewhere to stay up in London. This was just me paying it forward. I wanted
01:04to do something for the charity.
01:15And so we decided to do a ride-out just for Christmas time in aid of that, and it grew
01:18each year from there. That was in 2014. There was 200 people on that ride. There's probably
01:231,200 on this ride. It's grown organically every single year.
02:48The public today in London have been very, very good. They've dug deep, and they've been
03:05very, very generous, but it's just a nice little stop towards the end of the day now.
03:11It's been really, really good to see everyone.
03:41It's been really, really good.
