Custodian of Holy Land launches Advent leading to Christmas, without festivities

The custodian of the Holy Land, Father Francesco Patton, launched the Advent season for Christmas on Saturday, November 30, from the church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

However, church leaders in the Holy Land decided this year that because of the ongoing war, Christmas will be marked only by religious rituals, with no festivities or tree.

Father Patton called on the world to work on achieving peace, saying that he hopes "all the countries will work on achieving peace in the holy lands, because when there is peace there is well-being for everyone, but when there is war, there is suffering for everyone."
