00:00This year ALBA-TCP celebrates its 20th anniversary.
00:03Next Saturday, Venezuela will host the 24th Summit of Heads of States and Governments
00:08of the Alliance.
00:09Let's learn more about its history in the following segment.
00:18Hello.
00:25On December 14th, Caracas will be the epicenter of the 24th Summit of Heads of States and
00:30Governments of the ALBA-TCP.
00:32To know what this multilateral mechanism is all about, let's watch the following report.
00:37ALBA-TCP is a regional international organization founded in 2004 by the governments of Cuba
00:43and Venezuela to counter the free trade area of the Americas promoted by the United States.
00:50ALBA-TCP currently enrolls Latin American and Caribbean countries with the firm objective
00:56of fighting poverty and social exclusion based on leftist ideological doctrines.
01:03This mechanism prioritizes equality and the common good in relations between nations by
01:08fostering regional dialogue, by identifying areas for strategic alliances, and by promoting
01:14consensus and agreement among Latin American nations.
01:22The International Anti-Fascist Conference laid a fundamental proposal that all social
01:27movements worldwide should take ownership of the Bolivarian Alliance and its capabilities
01:33to strengthen their struggle to stop fascism forever.
01:39I am here to tell you about an experience, about a reality that emerged 20 years ago.
01:47What is ALBA?
01:48It was suggested by Hugo Chavez, but who created it?
01:55Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro, no less.
01:58That is to say, that ALBA has foster initiatives that even today the BRICS regards as vanguard
02:05initiatives.
02:09And on a day like this it is fitting to remember a phrase of Commander Hugo Chavez, ALBA is
02:15a dream come true, it is the hope of our peoples.
02:19With this statement Chavez expressed the hope that ALBA represented for Latin American and
02:23Caribbean as it offered an alternative to neoliberal models.
02:29And with the aim of building a new multipolar world, the leader of the Cuban Revolution,
02:34Fidel Castro, stressed the importance of ALBA in its creation.
02:38He said that ALBA is an integration project born out of the need to build a fairer and
02:44more equitable world.
02:45Fidel Castro stressed the transformative nature of ALBA, which sought to overcome inequalities
02:51and build a new world order.
