00:00Welcome back. The 24th ALBATICIPES SUMMIT was held in Caracas with the presence of heads
00:16of states and representatives from all 10 member countries marking the 20th anniversary
00:20from the creation of the Latin American-Caribbean alliance. Correspondents Garfield Bulford
00:24and Belen de los Santos have all the details.
00:28Presidents from the historic embrace between Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez signaling the
00:33creation of ALBA in 2004. 20 years on, leaders of the 10 member states gathered in Caracas
00:40to celebrate the milestone and chart the course for strengthened cooperation as geopolitical
00:45uncertainties mount.
00:47There was strong support for the state of Palestine as Gaza continues to face a humanitarian
00:52crisis. Support for the Palestinian people was not just in words, but in deed.
01:02Where it is declared as a permanent guest, with the category of brother country of ALBATICIPES
01:07as of this summit.
01:09Closer to home, leaders expressed solidarity with Haiti, where gang violence has reaped
01:13a grim toll in lives and left many more displaced.
01:18This is one of the big commitments of ALBA today, to support Haiti beyond our limitations.
01:28Leaders again condemned the embargo on Cuba under the designation of the country as a
01:32state sponsor of terrorism. They also condemned unilateral coercive measures against Venezuela
01:38and Nicaragua.
01:39There was strong support for Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who will be inaugurated for
01:44a new six-year term in January.
01:48Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Gaston Brown says President Maduro is the only elected
01:52president of the Bolivarian Republic.
01:55That is Nicolas Maduro. And Antigua and Barbuda recognize no other. So no Guaida 2.0 or any
02:11other.
02:12And with the United States President-elect Donald Trump set to be inaugurated for his
02:16second term in just over a month, St. Vincent and the Grenadines' Prime Minister Dr. Ralph
02:21Gonzalez had this suggestion.
02:23Listen, we can live together peacefully as neighbors. But we have to do so with respect
02:37for each other.
02:40Leaders closed the landmark summit in Caracas with renewed optimism about the unaccelerated
02:45path towards a multipolar world.
