00:00This was Inspector General of Police Tanshri Razaruddin Hussain's response when asked
00:11to comment if there were any police reports lodged against former Premier Tun Dr Mahathir
00:16Mohamad in connection with recent unveiling of the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
00:21The RCI on the handling of sovereignty issues involving Batu Putih, Middle Rocks and South
00:26Ledge had proposed that a criminal investigation should be brought against Dr Mahathir.
00:32The issue stems from a decision made by the government in 2018 to withdraw Malaysia's
00:38application to review the International Court of Justice's decision on the sovereignty
00:43of Batu Putih.
00:44At the time, the government was led by Dr Mahathir.
00:48In 2008, the ICJ ruled that Batu Putih belonged to Singapore while Middle Rocks was awarded
00:54to Malaysia.
00:55It also ruled that the ownership of South Ledge would be determined based on the delimitation
01:00of territorial waters.
01:02Last week, in a highly redacted and declassified report tabled in Parliament, the RCI report
01:08recommended that investigations cover offences of cheating under Sections 415 subsection
01:14B, 417 and 418 of the Penal Code, which resulted in the loss of Batu Putih.
01:21Earlier, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has denied being treacherous to the country, saying that
01:27the ICJ decision on Pulau Batu Putih was accepted in line with commitments made to other countries.
01:35He said the decision was made with the full agreement of the Cabinet in 2018, as the Middle
01:40Rocks awarded to Malaysia are considered to be more valuable than Pulau Batu Putih, which
01:46was awarded to Singapore.
