History is made - US Midterm Elections

00:00Good morning and welcome back to our coverage of the U.S. midterm elections.

00:07All right, we've got some historic news for you today.

00:09The first two Muslim women ever to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives will

00:14be taking their seat in January.

00:16We have Rashida Tlaib, who is representing Michigan's 13th District.

00:21She's currently a lawyer serving in the State Senate there, or sorry, the House there at

00:26the state level.

00:28She won a commanding victory of about 80 percent of the vote.

00:31She'll probably be joined by Ilhan Omar, a Somali-American who became the first Somali-American

00:37to win any national election in 2016.

00:40She currently holds a very commanding lead in Minnesota, so that should be two Muslim

00:44women serving in the U.S. House.

00:48History also being made with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who became the youngest woman in Congress

00:54ever at the age of 29.

00:57She's been confirmed now for New York's 14th Congressional District.

01:01Elsewhere, the Democrats' ambitious Senate bid looks all but lost now after Joe Donnelly's

01:07loss to Republican Mike Brown in Indiana.

01:11There may be some slim chance, but it looks less and less likely as the evening goes on.

01:16Whilst the Democrats look more and more likely to take the House, Fox News, obviously Trump's

01:22favorite broadcaster, has called it for the Democrats in the House of Representatives.

01:28There's been a spate of pickups.

01:30Donna Shalala, Abigail Spanberger, the CIA, ex-CIA operative we spoke about earlier, looks

01:35likely to win, and Dean Phillips in Minnesota.

01:38So a number of key Democrat victories in the last hour or so, looking more and more likely

01:45that the Democrats will win the House, but not that blue wave perhaps.

01:49No, more like a blue ripple is what we're hearing.

01:52Although there is one race very much still in contention, which has the Republicans a

01:55little bit worried, and that's the senatorial race in Texas.

01:58Ted Cruz is currently losing to Beto O'Rourke.

02:03This has been a heavily watched race across the country.

02:06We'll have to see how it goes.

02:08It's still too close to call, but it might be one of the few wins in the Senate for the

02:12Democrats.
