00:00Hello everybody, I'm Scott Shuey and this is Ed Klaus and we're here to give you your
00:06latest update on the U.S. midterm elections.
00:09Voter suppression has long been a contentious issue in the United States and it's really
00:12come to the fore in the Georgia governor's race.
00:15Candidate Stacey Abrams has accused her opponent, Brian Kemp, of trying to strike off a number
00:20of African American voters from the register by removing their eligibility to vote.
00:24Scott, where else has voter suppression been an issue today?
00:27Well, actually it's been an issue across the country in a number of areas, but the Department
00:31of Homeland Security has come out and said they've been monitoring the situation and
00:35they made two statements.
00:36The first was that when it comes to the voting machines, they have not seen any unusual number
00:41or spike in the breakdown of these machines.
00:43What they've seen so far, at least in terms of, we're assuming they mean Georgia, that
00:48seems to be within the normal failure rate for the particular machines, although there
00:51have been some specific claims that things like lack of cords have prevented the voting
00:57machines from even being plugged in.
00:59However, in terms of hacking, the department has said they have not seen any spike in the
01:03amount of activity out there.
01:05We'll be monitoring the Homeland Security's updates and of course updates from all other
01:08relevant channels as the evening progresses and we'll keep you up to date with that.
01:12Thanks very much for watching.
