Aston Villa v Southampton - Matt Maher match preview
Transcript
00:00Good afternoon from Bodymore Heath where Uno Emery has held his latest press conference.
00:07Willer will play Southampton tomorrow, looking to back up Wednesday night's win over Brentford
00:12which snapped an eight game run without a win.
00:15The game is coming thick and fast at the moment and Uno Emery admitting that he doesn't really know
00:21what team he's going to be able to name because he doesn't really know who's fit at the moment.
00:26Willer's players haven't actually trained yet or they're training right now actually at the moment.
00:30That's the first time they've trained properly since Wednesday night and it is just the one training session
00:35in between games at the moment.
00:37Saturday's game is Willer's third in the run of four games in the space of ten days
00:42which concludes with next Tuesday's trip to RB Leipzig.
00:47Amadou Anana could be involved on Saturday.
00:50He's had a foot injury which has sustained him in the international break which has kept him out since then.
00:55And Jacob Ramsey is going to be out for another two or three weeks.
01:00Otherwise the big question I suppose is whether Tyrone Mings will continue at the heart of defence
01:05after his excellent performance against Brentford.
01:08The suspicion is that Willer still needs to manage minutes with Mings at the moment.
01:13It was obviously a very serious injury that he had.
01:17But I think Wednesday's performance confirmed that he still can perform at a very high level
01:23which is only going to be a positive for Willer moving forward.
01:27And it gives Emery options with obviously Pau Torres also able to play at centre-back
01:31and has been playing at centre-back really since Mings got injured.
01:35Southampton have the worst away record in the league and they're bottom of the league.
01:42So this really feels like a must-win, should-win game for Willer.
01:47Albeit they're not straightforward.
01:49Una Emery very complimentary about Southampton's style and their tactics under Russell Martin.
01:56Obviously that's not translated into points at the moment.
01:58But the manager is suggesting that this may be a tougher game than many suspect.
