00:00Medieterre, after the earthquake, the renaissance of central Italy, in addition to the fragility of the territory, is the title of the book of the Senator of the Republic and Commissioner Extraordinary in Sisma 2016 Guido Castelli,
00:16presented in advance in Rome at the National Fair of the small and medium publishing house Più Libri, Più Liberi, a book that tells the reconstruction of the central Apennines after the earthquake 2016-2017.
00:29Between August 24, 2016 and January 18, 2017, about 50,000 shards shook a territory of the central Apennines of extension higher than that of the Netherlands.
00:40It was a great tragedy, many false starts, many initial controversies, then something changed.
00:45We were able to impregnate a change of pace in the reconstruction, but right at that moment we understood that to rebuild the houses would not make sense if we did not simultaneously also take care of the economic and social vitality of wonderful territories, but that more than others are suffering from the demographic crisis.
01:02You save the Apennines if you know how to engage in the great environmental, digital and technological transitions, because innovation can be a help for those who suffer from geographic isolation and perhaps activating, as we are doing, a path of increasing connectivity, of digitization.
01:21The challenge is this, we called it Next Apennino, a strategy that combines modernity and tradition, starting from a concrete experience, the one I did as mayor before, as regional advisor of the brands of the reconstruction and now as commissioner of the reconstruction. It is a volume, it is a testimony that comes from the concrete experience.
01:40Thousands of buildings collapsed or injured by the earthquake in 2016-2017 in central Italy, the price of human lives was very high.
01:50It is true that in this book we tell a tragedy, that of the earthquake, but at the same time we offer a perspective of recovery, a perspective of rebirth for territories that are historically part of our history and Italian identity.
02:06Now it is important to try to restart and within this book Guido Castelli, who for many years has been doing an important job on the territory and is doing it for a greater reason with the role of commissioner of the government, tries to propose some ideas, some projects precisely to relaunch the territories affected by that tragedy that was the earthquake.
