00:00Between the 24th of August 2016 and the 18th of January 2017, about 50,000 shacks shook up a territory of the Central Apennines that was larger than the Netherlands.
00:16It was a great tragedy, many false startings, many initial controversies, but then something changed.
00:21We managed to stop the reconstruction, but at that moment we understood that it wouldn't make sense to rebuild the houses if we didn't simultaneously take care of the economic and social vitality of these marvellous territories that, more than others, are suffering from the demographic crisis.
00:38We know that in that quadrant, including Favabriano, Spoleto, Rieti, L'Aqui, L'Ascoli Piceno, Camerino, the Italian identity was cultivated and, in some ways, the European one.
00:49San Benedetto and Santa Scolastica came from the north.
00:53From this point of view, however, we have a clear goal, which is to preserve our traditions, to keep them, in some way, pure and intact, but also to make a leap of contemporaneity in the Apennines.
01:05The Apennines can be saved if we can also engage in the great environmental, digital and technological transitions, because innovation can be a help for those who suffer from geographic isolation.
01:16And, perhaps, by activating, as we are doing, a path of increasing connectivity, of digitalization of our environments, we can compete, living in that territorial quadrant, also a competitive and highly advanced quality life in our territory.
01:34This is the challenge. We called it Next Apennino, a strategy that combines modernity and tradition, starting from a concrete experience, the one I did, as a mayor before, as a regional assessor of the brands of the reconstruction, and now as a commissioner of the reconstruction.
01:49It is a volume, it is a testimony born from the concrete experience.
