00:00Let's play with some high-speed stuff here.
00:02Woo-hoo-hoo!
00:03Ha-ha-ha-ha!
00:05Unreal.
00:06We are here in British Columbia riding the 2025 Can-Am Outlander 1000R XTP.
00:13We are going to give you five things we love, five things we hate,
00:16and then we are going to tell you who this machine is for.
00:18Let's get started.
00:19The first thing we love is this engine.
00:22It's a 999cc V-twin engine that makes 101 horsepower.
00:28That is insane for an ATV.
00:30This Rotex mill, incredibly powerful, incredibly torquey, but also smooth.
00:36This thing is a rocket.
00:39But what's surprising is it rides pretty small.
00:42Easy to operate.
00:44It also makes it the fastest 1000cc ATV on the market with a 0-60 of under 6 seconds.
00:49That's wild.
00:51Woo-hoo-hoo!
00:52It's the train, baby!
00:54The second thing we love, these bumpers.
00:57These things come on the XTP.
00:58They're incredibly tough.
01:00These tow hooks can each handle 3,000 pounds.
01:04They're good tie-down spots on the trailer.
01:06They're also made to yank other fools out of the muck.
01:09That is excellent.
01:11The third thing, this wheel and tire setup.
01:13This is a 14-inch beadlock with a 27-inch tire.
01:17If you think that doesn't make a difference, trust me, it does.
01:20They also have the 850 Outlander out here on its 26-inch tire,
01:24and I can tell you that extra inch of diameter really makes it easy to get over obstacles.
01:29While we're talking rolling stock, let's get to number four,
01:32and it's the brake system on this machine.
01:35The XTP gets four-wheel disc brakes.
01:38That is amazing.
01:40And, man, will these things bring you down from speed.
01:43If you're not careful, you hoss on these things, you're going over the handlebars.
01:46We watched a guy do it.
01:47The 850, meanwhile, gets along with three disc brakes.
01:51You get two in the front, one on the rear.
01:53Yeah, for most folks, that's probably enough,
01:55but, hey, we don't mind having an extra little bit of stopping power.
01:59Let's get to the fifth thing we love, and it is these tow boxes.
02:03Why do I say that?
02:04They are massive.
02:05Look at this. Look at this.
02:06That's a size 11 boot down there.
02:08There's all sorts of room to move around.
02:10You can replace these grips if they wear down.
02:12They are plastic.
02:13Wouldn't mind seeing metal, but, hey, that's not the end of the world.
02:15And, most importantly, they keep you incredibly, incredibly clean.
02:20Look at these massive fenders.
02:21We've been ripping around in the British Columbia muck all day,
02:24and I am clean as can be because of this big tow box and all of this protection.
02:29This is really, really well thought out.
02:31Also, this suspension.
02:32Yeah, it's all dirty, but you got Fox external bypass QS3 shocks back here.
02:37That's not even the most impressive part.
02:39Can-Am did a lot of work to get the roll center a lot closer to the center of gravity on this machine,
02:44and because of that, it feels a lot more stable.
02:47You also get a front sway bar on this machine,
02:51which is kind of unusual in this class.
02:53It all adds up to a machine that is really, really stable
02:55and helps build your confidence really, really quickly.
02:58All right, let's get to the five things we hate,
03:00and we're going to start with something nitpicky.
03:02There are no cup holders here.
03:04None.
03:04Where are you going to put your cup of coffee?
03:05Where are you going to put your bottle of water?
03:07It's got to go in one of the storage areas.
03:09There's no convenient place to put it.
03:11That's a bummer.
03:12The second thing we hate, this gauge cluster.
03:15Hate is maybe a strong word.
03:17It conveys all of the information that you need to know.
03:20It's also just, it looks a little dated.
03:23I mean, this rig is going to cost you every bit of $17,000 by the time you get it out the door,
03:27and you're stuck with an LCD dash that looked like it got plucked out of a Can-Am from 10 years ago.
03:31Let's talk about the third thing we hate.
03:34It's the way these boxes work.
03:36Number one, these Link boxes are amazing.
03:40They keep all of your gear.
03:41It's super clean, super dry.
03:42There's good weather stripping around them.
03:44That's awesome.
03:45They're good and secure.
03:46The problem that I run into is that you need two hands in order to open these things.
03:51You get it open, it wants to fall down immediately.
03:54That's tough.
03:55It seals nice.
03:56That's great.
03:57I would love to see a one-handed operation,
03:59because, hey, anytime you're going to put something in here,
04:02you've got something else in your hands.
04:04It just makes sense.
04:05The fourth thing we hate, we're going to get a little picky here.
04:08This switch controls all sorts of things.
04:10It gets your reverse override, it's your starter button,
04:13and it controls your power steering select.
04:16This vehicle comes with three power steering modes.
04:18You've got min, mid, and max.
04:20They can only be accessed with this button,
04:22and it just feels a little weird.
04:23You get control for your engine braking up here,
04:26your drive modes right here.
04:27You can hear it beeping to let me know I'm in sport mode, work mode, or normal mode,
04:31but your power steering doesn't get its own dedicated button.
04:35It feels a little bit like an afterthought.
04:37We would love to see a dedicated button,
04:39maybe a single trigger like you get for the engine braking modes over here.
04:42Finally, let's talk thing number five, and it's going to be this winch cable.
04:46Can-Am sticks you with a steel braided line just like it's 1972.
04:51Look, if I'm paying $17,000 for a rig like this,
04:54I want synthetic braided line.
04:56Get on it, Can-Am.
04:57Let's talk about how this machine rides.
04:59It is big.
05:00There's no mistaking that this is a monster of a machine
05:02at 50 inches wide and 1,000 pounds.
05:05However, it rides way smaller than it feels,
05:09at least until you get it airborne.
05:11Then you realize, man, you've got a lot of mass going in the air.
05:14The brakes are excellent.
05:15There's good feel both from the pedal and from the linked lever up here.
05:19Throttle response is instantaneous.
05:21You really don't feel that massive hit of the 101 horsepower
05:25until you are deep in the throttle.
05:27Drive modes really help.
05:28Work mode tames things down.
05:30Normal mode is, well, normal for a 101 horsepower ATV,
05:35and sport mode is movie spicy.
05:37All of that brings us to who is this machine for?
05:40Well, I think that's pretty simple.
05:41It's somebody who has a bunch of work to do,
05:43needs to tow things, needs to haul things.
05:46Maybe you're a hunter.
05:47This thing can fit 240 pounds on the back,
05:49nearly 130 pounds up front, can tow 1,850 pounds.
05:53All that is amazing.
05:55That means this thing is an absolute workhorse.
05:57It's also a ton of fun.
05:59This thing handles and rides better than any 1,000 cc machine has any right to do.
06:05Can-Am really did their homework when it comes to the chassis,
06:08the suspension designs, the brakes.
06:09This thing is an absolute riot,
06:11and in a day you're going to find yourself sliding around on the trails
06:14and having an excellent time or ripping up your favorite rock climb.
06:18This machine's capability truly is top notch.
06:20That means this rig is for somebody who has the cash
06:24to buy the one machine to rule them all.
06:27Most buyers can probably get along with the base level 850.
06:30It does 90% of what this XTP does.
06:34This XTP just makes everything a little bit nicer
06:37from the suspension to the brakes to the body protection.
06:40All of that elevates this machine to a really, really nice place.
06:45That's been five things we love and five things we hate
06:47about the 2025 Can-Am Outlander 1000R XTP.
