00:00Watch this before you buy a Can-Am Maverick R Max!
00:03Can-Am has finally unveiled a four-seat version of the mighty Maverick R,
00:08and that means that the Polaris RZR Pro R is no longer the king of the unlimited four-seat class.
00:14But there are a few things you need to know before signing on the dotted line and bringing
00:18home a Maverick R Max of your own. This is everything you need to know about the 2025
00:23Can-Am Maverick R Max. Let's start with the basics. The engine and transmission are carryovers from
00:28the two-seat Mav-R. You get the same rowdy 999cc turbocharged triple with 240 horsepower
00:36and an excellent seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That makes it the most powerful
00:40mainstream four-seat side-by-side on sale today. And that combination comes with the same drive
00:46modes as the standard Maverick R, and that includes Sport Plus with its anti-lag system.
00:51If you want all 240 horsepower at your beck and call immediately,
00:55you mash that little Sport Plus button and hold on tight. And just like its short wheelbase
01:00sibling, the Maverick R Max also gets the wild tall knuckle suspension. As goofy as it looks,
01:06the tall knuckle suspension actually offers pretty incredible performance. For one thing,
01:10there's a lot of articulation, but what's even more impressive is just how much more stable
01:15this rig feels than the competition. That should be doubly true when it comes to the Maverick R Max,
01:20because it is much, much, much longer. This thing is a 142.5-inch wheelbase.
01:26Say that one more time.
01:28142.5.
01:31What is that in feet?
01:32That's like just shy of 12 feet.
01:34Okay.
01:35By comparison, the two-seat rig sits on a 108-inch wheelbase.
01:39Even the massive Razor Pro R4 comes up just short of the Maverick R. It's just
01:44133.5 inches between the wheels.
01:47How else can I put this? A Chevy Suburban? Yeah?
01:51Yeah.
01:51134.1 inches. It's 8.1 inches shorter when it comes to wheelbase.
01:57She a big girl.
01:58She a big girl. And all told, the new Can-Am is 175 inches long. That's over 14 feet.
02:05That is bananas.
02:06Bananas.
02:07How wide is it?
02:0878.1 inches wide.
02:10Okay. So the same as the...
02:11Yeah, same as the two-seat, but that means it is the largest side-by-side currently made.
02:18Yeah, it's one of the bigger vehicles currently made, I would say.
02:21And how does that compare to the Pro R?
02:24Pro R4? That's 170 pounds lighter.
02:27Than the Maverick R?
02:28Correct.
02:28Wow. Okay. All right.
02:30So those dimensions tell me that the Can-Am Maverick R Max is probably heavier than its
02:34two-seat can?
02:35Yeah, you're not wrong. We're talking 2,650 pounds dry.
02:39That's 410 pounds heavier than the two-seat rigged and 170 pounds heavier than the Pro R4.
02:46God.
02:46So how does that affect performance?
02:48Well, we all know that lighter equals faster and the Pro R is no slouch when it comes to power.
02:53We're talking 225 horsepower from a naturally aspirated four-cylinder.
02:57So I'd wager with the extra weight,
02:59these two things are going to be neck and neck in a drag race.
03:01Yeah, I'd take that action.
03:02All right. So what are we talking about when it comes to wheels and tires?
03:05There aren't a lot of 32-inch tires that run a 16-inch wheel available for side-by-sides right
03:10now. The Pro R, meanwhile, runs 15s and for the first time gets beadlocks on the four-seat.
03:15We have been clamoring for that for years.
03:17Yeah, about time.
03:18So what you're saying is they're so close, they might as well be the same.
03:21If you can get 32s and 16-inch where you are,
03:23rock and roll, grab the Mav R. If you're worried about it, maybe the Pro R is the thing for you.
03:27Moving inside, the Pro R4 has a really cool set of rear seats.
03:31They've got removable seat backs and folding bottoms,
03:33and you don't need any tools to get them out.
03:35Yeah, it's kind of a stow-and-go situation.
03:37So if you want to throw a cooler or anything back there,
03:39there's got a lot of room in the Polaris.
03:41Can-Am hasn't said anything about something similar in the Mav R,
03:44so we're betting what you see is what you get in terms of rear seats.
03:47Yeah, and you can probably still unbolt them, but boy, that tool-free thing is really handy.
03:52That extra practicality is a huge win for the Polaris,
03:55especially since these rigs are really too big to skimp on storage.
03:58That's fair.
03:59All right. So while we're inside, we've seen photos of the four-seat Mav R,
04:02and it looks just as good as the two-seat.
04:05Big 10-inch LCD screen, soft-touch materials everywhere inside and out.
04:10How does the Pro R stack up?
04:11You just spent a lot of time in the new Pro R4.
04:13Yeah, I just spent a few hours in one,
04:15and I got to say, it's still not quite up to the Maverick standards,
04:19but there is a lot of storage, and they've done a couple of key things.
04:22One, they have put new seats in the Pro R.
04:25It's the same seat foam as comes in the Expedition.
04:28The backs are fixed, which is old Pro R stuff,
04:31but they are incredibly comfortable.
04:34You also get a heated seat bottom and a ventilated seat back
04:37in the ultimate trim in the front, which is sweet.
04:40And something else we clamored for on the old one,
04:43they've got full doors that go all the way down.
04:45They've got a nice molded door panel.
04:46There's like a place to put your arm.
04:48It's pretty good. It's pretty Gucci in there.
04:50Yeah, and it's worth pointing out that the Pro R still comes with an excellent stereo,
04:54excellent navigation, neither of which seem to be available on this Mav R Max.
04:58No, visually, the Maverick R has a lot more pop,
05:01but when you actually start using it, the Pro R just kind of edges it out.
05:05And I gotta say, there is so much storage in the dashboard
05:09and in the doors and the console in the Pro R.
05:11If you need a place to stash anything, you've got it.
05:14All of that is a big deal.
05:15Okay, speaking of big, dollhairs, price, what are we talking?
05:20Yeah, that's also big.
05:22The 2025 Can-Am Maverick R Max.
05:25The base comes in at $39,199 before destination charges
05:31or before you touch the accessories catalog.
05:33So that's not bad, though.
05:35I mean, for what you're getting, 240 horsepower, four seats, DCT transmission.
05:38Okay, okay, but if you want the nicest model,
05:41the one with the smart shocks, the really cool electronic suspension,
05:44you are looking at $47,799 before you put any accessories on it
05:50and before you get it to the dealer.
05:52That is without destination, without tax, almost $48,000.
05:56So if you look at the option catalog, you're over $50,000.
06:00Oh yeah, easy.
06:01The RZR Pro R4 Sport starts at $38,999
06:05and the top tier ultimate trim is $46,999.
06:09Again, those prices are before destination, taxes, or accessories.
06:13Or incentives, right?
06:14Both of these are within $1,000 of each other.
06:17And I bet you, if you find a dealer that's willing to work with you
06:20or a deal that either manufacturer is running,
06:22you'll be right on top of each other.
06:24Right. It's worth noting that the RZR Pro R4 only comes in two trims,
06:28the most basic sport model and the fully loaded ultimate.
06:31The Maverick R, by contrast, has four trims available.
06:35There are two steps in between the most basic and the most expensive.
06:38All right, so it's a little bit of a choose-your-own-adventure on the Can-Am side.
06:41You get a little bit more customization.
06:42All right, so when can I get my hands on these things?
06:46Well, the Pro R is available now
06:48and the Maverick R should be hitting dealers in the next couple of weeks.
06:51Can-Am said during the launch of the Maverick R Max
06:54that they wanted it to be ready in time for dune season
06:56and that is nigh upon us.
06:58It's now.
06:58Yeah.
06:59So if you want either of these things,
07:00you should probably get on down to your dealer and get a deposit in.
07:03All right, that is everything you need to know about the new Can-Am Maverick R Max.
07:08That leaves only one question.
07:09Which one would you take home?
07:11Well, my knee jerk is the Maverick R Max
07:13because I've loved the Can-Am Maverick R every time I've driven it.
07:17That thing is humongous and that actually gives me pause.
07:21It's hard to mask that kind of size and weight no matter how good the drivetrain is.
07:25Right, and I think that leaves us at a place where this one's a little too hard to call.
07:29So why don't you let us know in the comments which one you'd take home.
07:32After you hit the comments, head over to UTVDriver.com
