In this episode shown on New Year's Day 1973, contestants Ernie & Sherry Marshall and Monica & Christopher Riley, then Sheena Wilmott & Eddie Collins and Freda & Ewen Rennie play the Generation Game, helped by host Bruce Forsythe and his assistant Anthea Redfearn. Among the games they face include learning Highland Dancing, matching the literary characters to their books, making clay flowers and "Famous Places", matching the photos to their destinations. The final game involves the winning two pairs to play a re-enactment game called "The Thing Meets the Mummy's Ghost" (though this changes each time), where June Whitfield, Liza Goddard and a almost unrecognisable Jon Pertwee play a hilarious horror of a show for the contestants to act out. But who will go through to play for the final, where "big" prizes await on the conveyor belt of goodies - if only they can remember them!
This was a repeat a few months back on BBC4 and they are always fascinating to watch. I do have a couple of Noel's House Party that I was fortunate enough to record, and no matter that they are game shows. They take you back to when times were simpler and well away from the cares and worries of the world. Sit back and indulge and enjoy yourself.
