00:07aside from their colorful and beautiful hanbok or Korean traditional clothes,
00:13you will surely notice the embroidery on their clothes, musical instruments,
00:21and other accessories made in the traditional way of tying string or cords.
00:28What exactly is this called?

00:34Nowadays, chains or accessories are in fashion.
00:39However, you can see different kinds of chains in an exhibit
00:43organized by the National Folk Museum of Korea
00:46and the Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines.
00:49And that is the medup, a traditional Korean knot.
00:53The National Folk Museum of Korea is an institution that investigates, studies, collects, and exhibits Korean folk culture.
01:03Medup is a traditional accessory that was used in the past rather than being used in the modern world.
01:10Medup is made from a thin thread made from silkworms
01:18and a decorative knot or medup with 30 kinds.
01:22And the last one is the sul or tassel that is attached to the lower part of the medup.
01:27There are many kinds of medup in the exhibit.
01:30There are medup for women, pendants with ornaments,
01:35fan ornaments, eyeglasses cases, medup with perfume.
01:39And there are also medup for men such as flat-braided belts
01:44and religious medup decorations.
01:48This is an international exhibition.
01:50It was exhibited in Australia in July this year
01:53and this is the second time it was exhibited here in the Philippines.
01:56Visitors can visit the medup until January 29, 2025 at the Metropolitan Museum.
