00:00What is the role of self-care?
00:04First of all, I think it is important to start from the very definition of self-care,
00:09from what we mean by self-care,
00:13which is, in fact, a bit using the expression of the World Health Organization,
00:17everything that each of us can do to take care of our own health.
00:22It is clear that, since this is an extremely broad and varied world,
00:27if we look at the categories of products that are part of the self-care world,
00:33we usually use an exception that includes everything that is the bank drug,
00:37so the drug that does not require medical prescription, OTC,
00:42everything that is the world of food integrators, of supplements,
00:46and all that can be the solutions of products or services
00:50that then take care of health,
00:53products for oral care.
00:57If we use this perimeter, in Italy we are talking about a market of about 7.5 billion,
01:02so an important market, growing,
01:05and clearly it has taken more and more footing and importance even after the pandemic.
01:11Self-care has a series of direct advantages,
01:15a series of direct advantages, now I try to explain better why I say this.
01:20First of all, it starts from the concept of health and what is the value of health.
01:26A healthy person, in fact, is an active person within society,
01:29a person who can still contribute in a positive and active way,
01:33in terms of productivity, helping those who can be, for example, members of their own family.
01:39On the contrary, a sick person, a person who is not healthy,
01:42creates a whole complexity for himself, but also for society and for the world
01:46that is productive, for the economic world.
01:49If we look at what can also be the indirect advantages of the self-care world,
01:55today we estimate that only the OTC,
01:58so only the use of bank drugs that do not require, as we said before, medical prescription,
02:04contribute positively to the country's system for about 5 billion,
02:09to save the health system.
02:13So thanks to the use of about 137 million products,
02:18solutions, today the system saves 5 billion,
02:23so there is a direct impact on the health system
02:28and an indirect impact, as I said before, in short,
02:31compared to the service that is given to society.
02:34There is another aspect of self-care that I find interesting to mention,
02:38which is the opportunity it gives us to make the health model more sustainable
02:44thanks to the welfare system that we all know.
