00:00All right, Mike Tirico on the call on NBC, 49ers are in a shambles, they lose 35-10 to
00:20the Buffalo Bills and now we got issues up and down the roster.
00:26What's going on?
00:27I missed you, glad to be back, but I'll say this about that, Stiney, I feel like you got
00:33to call the dogs off now, like Fred Warner on a fractured ankle.
00:39And I was just sitting there and Evan had sent the tweet and it kind of read my mind
00:42like dude, look at these conditions, but he's out there.
00:44I saw Gladiator 2, one of the greatest movies ever made.
00:47He was being a gladiator out there on a fractured ankle.
00:51But Stiney, the way the game started and watching the Niners and McCaffrey before the injury
00:57kind of run up and down the field, I'm like, well, here it goes.
01:01Could they pull this off and for everything to transpire the way it did, and now you're
01:06sitting there five and seven, Stiney, I'm thinking about the future.
01:11If I'm the Niner brass, Fred, you need not to play, Trent, I don't, and thoughts and
01:18prayers with his family, what he's going through.
01:20But Stiney, you can't risk the biscuit when you talk about key cogs and Fred Warner and
01:26Trent Williams to me right now are that they can't play another game.
01:31It's not worth it.
01:34OK, but what are you saving them for next year?
01:40OK, and they're going to be better next year, healthier next year.
01:44I don't do you have?
01:45I don't know.
01:46I mean, I don't I don't think you do that.
01:48You know, wisdom would be if you know, you don't want to like the McCaffrey situations,
01:53Stiney, the before last night's, you know, getting re injured.
01:58You kind of just want to you think not playing.
02:02You're getting better, right?
02:03I don't think so.
02:05Like I don't.
02:06So you would keep Fred out there like this?
02:08You're still you're still you still got to get mathematically eliminated.
02:12That's the way I feel.
02:13I mean, and I don't believe for one minute if you sit these guys the last five games
02:16the next year, you're going to come out guns blazing.
02:19I think the problems are bigger.
02:21To come out guns blazing from a physical standpoint, well, and you're right about how long how
02:27long can you expect older guys to keep playing at a high level when now they're showing you
02:34that there might they might be on decline?
02:37They might.
02:38Christian McCaffrey may be in decline.
02:39He may never be the same for you.
02:41OK, and you know that opportunity.
02:43So what's rest going to do to help that?
02:45I don't.
02:46Well, he's I don't see it.
02:47I think he's done.
02:48I don't think he's coming back.
02:49But you are right.
02:51You just gave him a new contract.
02:52So moving forward now, you do have you do have a baby beast mode.
02:58But as far as McCaffrey being a prime McCaffrey, that's why I kept saying that the Super Bowl
03:02loss hurts so much because you don't know if you're going to get back.
03:06But I'm looking past him, Fred Warner's in his prime.
03:09And again, I'm sure, Stani, the doctors told him you can't make it worse.
03:13But what are you really playing for if you can't stop the run, if you can't score in
03:18the red zone?
03:20And we saw that again last night.
03:22Well, I just don't.
03:23Here's my thing.
03:24You're five and seven.
03:25Well, and you're two games out of first place.
03:27You still have a couple division games left.
03:30As dire as it sounds, yeah, I'm not shutting people down now unless they physically can't
03:35play.
03:36I mean, you got the Bears next week.
03:40Got to try to beat the Bears, get to six and seven, get some help.
03:43So you're still going for it.
03:44I think you're going for.
03:45Well, I just don't understand the benefit of rest of of packing in the season right
03:51now.
03:52Well, you know what?
03:53I need to pack in the season with five games left to save guys for next year.
03:59That's just that's just like you're just hoping at that point.
04:02But and again, this is just me.
04:05I'm not saying I'm right.
04:06But isn't McCaffrey exhibit a.
04:08I mean, he's hurt.
04:09He's hurt.
04:10Then he's not going to come back and play.
04:11But if he can play playing on a fractured ankle, what are you?
04:14You need to look yourself in the mirror.
04:16You're not that good.
04:17You're not going to win it.
04:18I don't believe the Niners are winning the Super Bowl this year.
04:21That's where I'm at.
04:22That's why I would tell Fred, we love you.
04:24You're a soldier.
04:25Sit your ass down because you're not playing like old Fred when you're out there.
04:30Why are we risking making something worse to where it goes into next year?
04:34And the Niners are that team.
04:36Everything has come up there while the coyotes, Donnie, everything is blown up in their face.
04:43With caution, treat your diamonds like they're not diamonds.
04:47Fred Warner's not a diamond.
04:48They're not a good team.
04:49Well, they're not a good team.
04:51And you're going to rest players.
04:53You got to think about the.
04:54OK.
04:55I don't think it's time to do that.
04:57I mean, what I saw with Fred two weeks ago when they lost to the when they lost to the
05:03Seahawks and people are like, they're done.
05:06Why didn't you just start resting guys then if you thought they were done for one?
05:09I didn't know your best linebacker was playing with a broken, a fractured ankle.
05:13That's one.
05:14And Stani, I was still the guy saying the math is still there.
05:17Well, it still is now.
05:18Yeah.
05:19I mean, it still is.
05:21And I guess is it worth it is to try to get in knowing you got or you can't stop the run.
05:27I don't know what's going on with the quarterback.
05:29I'm not blaming him for the loss.
05:31Why not?
05:32But I'm telling you, if it's for me, Brock Purdy is going to get the Jonathan Kaminga
05:37treatment.
05:38So we'll have to do something.
05:39So who's playing?
05:40So is Brock Purdy going to play the last five games?
05:42Yes.
05:43So Purdy's going to play with no Warner, no Trent Williams.
05:47I mean, I just think I just think it's too early to give up on the season.
05:52If guys can play, that's what they got to do.
05:55And I'm telling you, right, Stani, the math is still there for them to win the division.
06:00But if Fred is not going to be Fred, what are we really doing?
06:03Now he's not Fred.
06:04We've talked about it.
06:06I kept telling you he's playing on one wheel.
06:09No excuses.
06:10But that's why I was kind of uncanny that he came out and said what he said about, you
06:15know, I'm playing.
06:16I'm taking a shot every week.
06:17So you want to quit?
06:18Essentially.
06:19No.
06:20No.
06:21I'm thinking about the future.
06:22I'm being responsible.
06:23How?
06:24Like Fred Warner is not playing like Fred Warner.
06:26You understand that, right?
06:27And we found out why.
06:29Well, and if he's going to continue not to mirror himself, why are we running him out
06:34there?
06:35That's all.
06:36Because you don't have a better alternative.
06:37And you've still got to try to win games.
06:39All right.
06:408-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number.
06:45Niners get demolished last night, 35-10.
06:48McCaffrey gets hurt.
06:50And Purdy's not very good.
06:53And the defense can't stop the run.
06:56And they throw for less than 100 yards.
06:59They turn the ball over three times.
07:00Yeah.
07:01I mean, that's what that's been the story this season.
07:05But the one thing that I let me tell you, I guess what I'm out on is, oh, well, let's
07:11let's rest everybody now and get ready for next season.
07:14Now, you know what?
07:15To help me out, I didn't say it's like, why do you think they're getting hurt?
07:20Because they're older and they've they've they've played so many games in the last five
07:24or six years.
07:26I don't know.
07:27I guess I'm not arguing that.
07:28But I mean, fluke stuff happens all the time.
07:29It's a collision sport.
07:31And Fred fractured his ankle.
07:33You know, last year they didn't get hurt by injury.
07:35This year they did.
07:36No doubt about it.
07:37So and they haven't they haven't overcome it.
07:39And the fact the fact of the matter is they had games early in the year.
07:42They should have won.
07:43They could have won.
07:44They didn't win.
07:45And now they are hurt legitimately.
07:47The last two games they've been hurt.
07:49But when they got shot out that great, that's exactly so.
07:52So why are you resting guys for next year?
07:55If you were a 500 team and worse all year long?
07:59Like I don't I just don't think football is a sport where you magically just bring everybody
08:02back and well, we lost games last year, but we'll win games next year.
08:06You're too early for that.
08:07I got you.
08:08But you're fixated on everybody.
08:09I'm talking about Fred's daddy.
08:10I can't remember.
08:11Trent Williams.
08:12What do you do with him?
08:13Can he go?
08:14I don't know what I don't know what to do with them.
08:17But I'm telling you this.
08:18This is why I kept honing in on errors.
08:22And you get so many chances and cracks at it with this iteration of the Niners, man.
08:26This team, it's eroding around them and they're going to have to have some uncomfortable conversations
08:31or real conversations within those walls or just about what you do and how you do
08:36it.
08:37And then the crazy part, Stiney, is if you can do it.
08:39I mean, Brock Purdy, I take the L. I sat there and told you 60 million.
08:44I would not do that now.
08:46And you said, who are you?
08:47I'll give that to you.
08:49But I mean, you don't what did Bob Myers say?
08:52You don't got to do anything good, Stiney, until you have to do it.
08:54But I mean, to have him come back and quarterback next year and delay or need to see more, you
09:01know, and how many times I give Kyle credit for his players not throwing anybody under
09:04the bus.
09:05Kittle after the game, who showed the week before in conditions he could catch balls.
09:10I don't know why, Stiney.
09:12I'm coming in.
09:13I'm putting it on everybody how he only has two targets.
09:16And he said he was open.
