00:00free throws makes it 123-115 and Sacramento's magical start to Doug Christie's coaching career
00:07is continuing. Bucket by Moses Moody, eight seconds, seven seconds. Curry says let it go,
00:13Muck will dribble it up and the ball game's over. Final score will be Sacramento 123,
00:19Golden State 117. Post game show's upcoming. Now back to Stiney and Gurum on 95.7 The Game.
00:27No, it's ought to be good. The good life, Stiney. Yeah, go ahead. It's ought to be good.
00:31No, I'm positive. I saw some things that, I'm being real, man. I ain't gonna come in here every
00:36day. All we can do is try. Please. That's funny. That's funny because I just started following you
00:43on Twitter. What you mean? You've been following me for seven years. No, when I got off. Oh, wow.
00:50I put up a video and then took it down last night. Yeah. Probably a smart move.
00:55Um, what's, uh, hurry up. They all hurt, but this one really hurts.
01:05Hey, Evan, you can laugh. They all hurt, but this one really hurts. Whatever voice that is,
01:09you got something going there. Shout out Nikki F. I'm gonna say this. You guys don't get it.
01:15That was a good effort by the Warriors last night. It was, but Stiney, this is the NBA,
01:18man. It's about wins and losses. We're in the twilight. No, it's about consistency,
01:21and you know what boils my blood? Tell me if I'm being unfair.
01:25Watching Draymond in his wardrobe. If you're not playing, don't show. That's where I'm at. If we
01:30can't put you in the game, we don't need you on the bench. I just, being the first one to adapt
01:36to guys, it's not just him. It's everybody. Street clothes. If you're not playing, stay in the hotel.
01:42Shot you talking to me. Yeah, I am, man. I just don't like it, man. And the minute he stays back
01:47in the hotel, you'll rip him for being selfish and not supporting his teammates. This is where
01:54I'm going. It's going to be one of those days. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not. It's
01:57family day. Listen, the third quarter was a nightmare, and I have not criticized this player
02:03since his inception of being a Golden State Warrior because I like him, and I know his job
02:08is hard to fit in, and it's shrewder. But Stiney, that third quarter, he had four just killer
02:15turnovers. I know you got a whole quarter to fix it, but that, to me, was like, that was his worst
02:20floor game as a dub. So I wrote that down, Stiney, but at the end of the day, the third quarter,
02:28it got away from him. But Quentin Post, I won't take my victory lap. I just want a big, a stretch
02:33five. You, you, you, you, Evan's looking like Guglielmo. I called last week for Quentin Post.
02:38He delivered a stretch. The game, this, this NBA is about spacing and shooting,
02:44and unfortunately, right now, we're lacking, and if Pods is back tonight, you get that boost of
02:50enthusiasm and hustle, and Stiney, you said it at the beginning, almost got thug tears.
02:56Just stay in striking distance until Jonathan Kaminga can, can get back if you're not going
03:02to make a trade. That, that's it, Stiney. Up 18. I, I think that's a game you should be able to
03:07close with Steph, but you're right. They were in his trousers, man. They were making it hard.
03:15You got to give the Kings credit. Kings are playing well. They're 10 and 2 since they
03:20made the coaching change, and right now, they're just, you know, they're, they're better than the
03:25Warriors. No doubt. Because the Warriors, they got more athletes. Well, they're not, they're,
03:30the Warriors aren't healthy right now, too, but I, I do believe when we talk about NBA, I get it.
03:38You know, they played well last night. They played better last night, but they didn't win. Right,
03:43yeah. So what's it matter? Well, it does matter because to me, the NBA is about establishing a
03:49level of play, and if you can establish a level of play, that's a pretty high level,
03:53and you come with the same energy night in and night out, you're going to win games. It's like,
03:58okay, you didn't win last night's game, but if you play as hard as you did last night,
04:02and you make a couple more shots, you should beat the, you know, you can beat the Chicago Bulls
04:07tonight. But you got to figure out how to beat a zone, Stiney, because this is not the first team
04:10that implemented that, and it changed the game, and I know Kevon Looney played nine minutes and
04:15left to an illness, but I'm just throwing this to you because we saw Kerr change the lineup,
04:20Stiney. He changed the starting lineup. Shocked me. Buddy Hill got in there, Payton got in there,
04:25and Looney was in there. Tonight, if Looney, even if he's okay, would you be mad if Quentin
04:30Post got the start against the Bulls tonight? Or like, I don't want to say reward because,
04:37you know, he was out there. He didn't look overwhelmed, but just seeing a guy with size,
04:41made a good plays at the rim, altered some shots. Stiney, I'm just like, okay,
04:46Gu, you got the game, but I almost want to see the big fella. I want to see more of him and Santos.
04:52Why not? That's what you need an infusion of. I'm not saying they all start. Okay, there we go.
04:59The other thing is, yeah, Post was fine, and then he commits a foul. Did you have a problem
05:05with that foul? The guys in the morning did. I thought that was textbook. I wanted to call in,
05:11like, he stuck his hip out. It was a foul. But again, you know, it's like, you have to
05:16be prepared that if you want to give guys, young guys, chances of playing time, you're not going
05:21to win all those games. You're not. You're going to have growing pains. You have to be okay with it.
05:28Let's go to Leroy. What's up, Leroy? How you doing?
05:32Hey, what's up, Stiney? What's up, Gu? What's up, baby?
05:36Happy Thursday. I'm doing okay, but I'm, you know, lifelong warrior, and I'm watching this
05:42thing play out. Just talking about last night, you know, because we kind of talk about the past
05:48too much, and, you know, we talk about the future a little too much, but just talking about the game
05:54against SAC, at the end, it seems like Doug Christie just said, man, they ain't got nobody
06:01to protect the rim. Go to the hole. I mean, time after time, Malik Monk going to the hole.
06:07Everybody just going to the hole. And you could see that they made a concerted effort to get to
06:13the hole because we were too small. And so I'm just like, man, what do we do? What do we do,
06:20right? People say we need a shooting guard. You know, people say we need a big, you know,
06:25I'm just like, I'm just like, you know, we need some youth. We need to infuse some youth around
06:31Curry because Curry's not going anywhere. And I wanted to ask you guys a question, Stiney, Gu.
06:38You remember the guy, Keontae Johnson, from Kansas State? He had the heart condition. He
06:45had collapsed. I think OKC had drafted him, and now I think they moved him on to the Charlotte
06:53Hornets. But the Charlotte Hornets sent him down to the G League just to get some toolage because
06:59coming out of college, I thought he was a stud, right? 6' 6", 230. He's got a man's body. He's
07:05a fifth-year senior, right? He was with Kansas State. And I just thought he needed some toolage,
07:11right? Now he's tearing it up for the Swarm and Charlotte. He had 24 the other night,
07:1822 the other day. So Keontae Johnson, I think he's only like 24 years old,
07:24and I want you guys to take a look at him and tell me what you guys think of him because I think he'd
07:29be great for the Warriors. He's young. He was a fifth-year senior. He's got a man's body,
07:34and he's a two-way player. Yeah, I'll check him out. Hey, Leroy, I think, you know, I was just
07:39going to ask him, has he given up, or is he like you? Given up on what? This season. Why would
07:43you give up on this season? Well, he's talking about Keontae Johnson, and I wanted to hear,
07:47you know. You're talking about Quentin Post. He's on the team. Barely. No,
07:51Sonny, stop. Hope he gets a start tonight. I like what I saw from him. Keontae Johnson,
07:55third-team All-American. Oh, wow. Sorry, Warrior fans, you can't give up on this team.
08:03We're halfway through the year, and you've got to try to climb the standings. There's
08:07no such thing as giving up, and we'll find out if Podds gets back in there today.
08:14I thought the biggest problem last night was on the defensive end. Like, okay, Guy Santos has
08:20a putback. You're up three with four and a half minutes to go. Okay, talk to me. Well,
08:25then what happens? You foul Sabonis. He goes to the line. He makes two free throws,
08:31so they have a possession there where they don't have to score. Wiggins, three-pointer.
08:36We're still fine. We're up four with four minutes to go. DeRozan, miss. Moody, miss layup. Monk,
08:43miss three. Wiggins, miss. Okay, we're still all right. Curry, miss. We're still all right. DeRozan
08:49cuts it to two. Wiggins misses a turnaround. We're still up two. We're okay. We foul De'Aaron Fox.
08:56He goes to the line, makes two. Now it's even. Wiggins, drive, miss. We foul again. Monk makes
09:02two. They score six straight at the line. No, you're right. They didn't even have to run offense.
09:08You're giving them two points because you're fouling. Right. But you got to give them credit,
09:12Stani. They're one of the top six teams making their free throws, but had that been us, I feel
09:16like we'd have made three of six. But the bottom line is you're right. They fouled three consecutive
09:21possessions and send the Kings to the line, and now you've got three guys shooting two free throws.
09:2730 for 32 on the night. I mean, they took advantage of it. But Leroy was right, Stani.
09:33They start going to the bucket, man, because they got guys that can create, and they can create and
09:38kick. And at the end of the day, the Warriors don't have a surplus of that outside of Steph
09:44Curry. But as a fan, it's frustrating knowing kind of what the defense is doing to your best player,
09:51and you have no counter move. 8-8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-7-0 is the number. Warriors get beat last
10:01night. They're a game under .500 now. Play tonight. Over their last 28, they're 9-19.
10:08They play the Bulls tonight. Zach Levine in town, Vucevic in town. We'll talk more about
10:15whether those guys are on the Warriors' radar or not. But my question to Warrior fans last night is,
10:22look, you watched the Warriors play the last couple weeks, and they haven't been playing well.
10:28I thought last night they played with a lot of energy. I thought they played a great game,
10:33considering that the Kings completely took Steph Curry kind of out of the game, at least from an
10:39offensive point of view. So then what does Curry do? He adjusts, becomes more of a playmaker,
10:45was terrific as a floor leader. They get help from subs who make some shots. They just couldn't put
10:53it away at the end. But my question to Warrior fans is, can you get behind that kind of effort
10:59a little bit? Can you get behind playing? I remember the promo we run of Steve Kerr.
11:08He says, I want to be a scrappy team. I want to be hard to play against.
11:11That's kind of who they were last night for a chunk of the game.
11:17I mean, the Benchmob scored Sacramento 53-18. I mean, just think about that,
11:22Stony. The Benchmob showed up. Yeah, I mean,
11:29if you're going to play eight or nine guys, they're going to need multiple contributions.
11:33So what did Steve Kerr think about that ballgame? Turnovers, yeah. The whole game was third quarter
11:39turnovers. They were trapping in the first half. We handled the traps beautifully, got wide open
11:46looks, knocked down shots. And then second half, we lost our poise. They picked up their pressure,
11:51but other than maybe two or three plays where they trapped Steph and got a deflection, I thought
11:58almost every turnover was unforced. But sometimes when you get sped up,
12:05you make poor decisions. And I thought that happened a little bit tonight.
12:09All right, that's Steve Kerr. By the way, I'm thinking about Steve Kerr differently these days.
12:19Well, how did you think about him at the beginning? I thought about him as kind of a
12:26coach of a team that for 10 years, they didn't really need to do a lot and he had great teams.
12:34I was thinking, you know, I think it's fair. And I know a lot of people out there are down on Steve
12:40Kerr. And I tend to, what do I, I tend to downplay. Yeah, downplay like his importance.
