00:00Any second guesses for the two-point conversion there, Keefe?
00:03Like, you probably should have known Richardson was going to run right over you.
00:07They did that all day long.
00:08Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:09They didn't feel particularly ready for that.
00:11I don't know what you're supposed to do with Richardson down there.
00:13Yeah, I was going to say, I don't know what the second guess is.
00:14Just because you had an entire drive to get off stop.
00:17Like, they put themselves in fourth down three different times.
00:21And got it every time.
00:22And then the two-point conversion essentially is another fourth down.
00:25So, they had four have-to-have-it plays.
00:27And they went four for four.
00:29You want to cry about Christian Barmore getting held?
00:31I know a lot of people are doing that today.
00:32Not really.
00:33That was the difference in the game.
00:34Totally.
00:35Like, they would have won if Christian Barmore wasn't held on that play.
00:36Not really.
00:37I am pissed just as a Romandre Fantasy owner that they called the Anwenu one on the Mondrake hat.
00:40Yeah.
00:41That one kind of annoys me.
00:42That sticks in my car a little bit, yeah.
00:44Like, whatever.
00:45So, they call that.
00:46Then they end up probably kicking the point.
00:47Then they end up winning an overtime.
00:48I mean, that's what I think.
00:49It's like, okay.
00:50No, I'm not going to freak out about that.
00:51Let's play it out.
00:52Let's actually play that out.
00:53They call the hold.
00:54Christian Barmore is held.
01:00And you gave up an Anthony Richardson touchdown pass.
01:02You deserve to lose.
01:03Like, come on.
01:04There's so many things I would rather spend my time on than crying about the officials missing that.
01:09People want to cry about the Alex Austin pass interference as well.
01:12Yeah.
01:13I think it was a clear pass interference on that drive.
01:16And so, I don't know.
01:17Maybe have your coach challenge a catch.
01:20Or maybe, I don't know, mix in a stop at any point.
01:24Or be more aggressive with your play calling.
01:26Or, look, the Hail Mary and field goal thing, I don't think you're winning the game either way.
01:30But I would have hucked it up with your best player.
01:32Instead of leaving it on the leg.
01:34And it was a strong leg.
01:35But leaving it on the leg of a guy who can't kick from 25.
01:38I thought he hit it.
01:39Like, the first.
01:40When it first went up, I was like.
01:41I thought it looked pretty good.
01:42I'm like, he's going to win this game on a 68-yard field goal.
01:44Then I was like, oh, no, no.
01:45It fell a little bit short.
01:46So, lots of room to get in all your second guesses.
01:486-1-7.
01:497-7-9.
01:507-93-7.
01:51We'll take you around the NFL.
01:53Week 13.
01:54What happened?
01:55That's coming up about 15 minutes from now.
01:57So, stay tuned for that.
01:58Meanwhile, I liked a Shaughnessy tweet yesterday.
02:00I think it's a good way to get into the Patriots and their identity.
02:04They're soft.
02:05They're scared.
02:06No, they're not soft.
02:07They're soft for a day.
02:08And then they're not.
02:09They're not soft.
02:10No.
02:11They changed his tune on that.
02:12Yeah, no, they're hard.
02:13That's what they are.
02:14Yeah, they go real hard.
02:15Shaughnessy tweeted right after the game.
02:16When you see Steichen going for two and Richardson punching it in for the two-point conversion.
02:21That, boys and girls.
02:22Oh, yeah, that, boys and girls.
02:24Shaughnessy is coaching to win rather than coaching not to lose.
02:27Yeah.
02:28Then he throws in his, you know, requisite shot at the Crafts.
02:31He says, no CBS shots at the Crafts in the box after this.
02:33That's true.
02:34But that is how you play to win or coach to win.
02:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:38No doubt.
02:39As compared to doing whatever it is the Patriots are doing.
02:41So, do the Patriots have an identity?
02:44And if they do, what is it?
02:46I think it's funny because Gerard Mayo called the team soft right after their loss to Jacksonville.
02:52Now, that was a big talking point for a week.
02:54It got Bill Belichick all excited.
02:56And he got to say how bad he felt for the players and all this stuff and the other thing.
02:59And it was a major talking point.
03:00But I think the reality is they coach soft.
03:03And we've been saying that after almost every game.
03:06Like, oh, another decision which was, you know, oh, my God, let's hope this doesn't backfire on us.
03:13So, now's a good time to punt and let's gain 15 yards.
03:17Or, God forbid, we're not going to go for two.
03:19We can't do that.
03:20Like, I think they kind of coach soft.
03:22So, that in a way is their identity as well as anybody not named Caleb Williams is going to go out there and have a great day against you on offense.
03:32Like, their defense right now, I don't even know what the overall stats say as far as, like, points per game and stuff.
03:38But just when teams need it, if they need a first down or if they need a two-point conversion, they need a touchdown, they need a final drive, they can get it against the Patriots.
03:47It's not an uncomfortable day going up against the Patriots defense.
03:51No, not at all.
03:52I'll agree with the –
03:53Except for the Bears game.
03:54The Bears game was like a weird outlier.
03:55That one was.
03:56That was one.
03:57That was.
03:58You're right.
03:59We shouldn't say none.
04:00That was one.
04:01I agree with the Twitch chat, twitch.tv slash bostonwe.
04:02Always a real healthy conversation going on in there.
04:04Yeah, good stuff.
04:05Shyme's potatoes, is that a new one?
04:06I hadn't seen that one in there.
04:07Maybe I've missed it before.
04:08So, Shyme famously made mashed potatoes.
04:10They were all doing, like, a cook-off.
04:12And apparently they were, like, unedible.
04:14They were, like, so bad.
04:15I didn't have them, so I can't speak to it.
04:16But apparently they were, like, the worst mashed potatoes ever.
04:19Okay.
04:20We weren't super high on mashed potatoes when it came to our Thanksgiving tears.
04:24Just about outside?
04:25Yeah, it was just about outside.
04:26Yeah, people thought –
04:27Or whatever it was.
04:28People thought it should have been goat.
04:29Oh, no, give me that.
04:30The biggest debate was lumps or no lumps.
04:31Oh, yeah, that's true.
04:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:33Keith likes just a smooth gruel of a potato.
04:35Drink it.
04:36Just drink that.
04:37Yeah, exactly.
04:38Take the mashed potatoes with a straw.
04:39No gravy.
04:40Yeah.
04:41No gravy.
04:42Nope.
04:43Just thin as can be.
04:45I agree with Shimes Potatoes there in the Twitch chat.
04:47You do?
04:48Their identity is they're scaredy cats.
04:49Scaredy cats.
04:50I don't think their identity is soft as much as it is scared.
04:54They're afraid.
04:55They play scared.
04:56They coach scared.
04:57They coach scared.
04:58They're, like, afraid.
05:00Their first decision was, do we start Drake May week one?
05:03They were too afraid to do it.
05:04Scared to death.
05:05They were scared right from week one.
05:07Good point.
05:08Like, they've never been bold, aggressive, and, you know, a team that is trying to win.
05:15Like, Shaughnessy puts it perfectly.
05:16Yeah.
05:17They're afraid.
05:18They're not coaching to win.
05:19They're coaching not to lose.
05:20They're scaredy cats.
05:21True.
05:22And that is the team identity.
05:23And I think on some level, it trickles down to the players.
05:25But my bigger gripe is the way they coach it.
05:27That's their identity.
05:29And you just know, any time there's a big decision in the game, they're going to go
05:34conservative.
05:35They're going to go soft.
05:36They're afraid to turn it over as opposed to trying to go win the game.
05:40And I think, Keith, that's born out of job security.
05:44I think everybody down there is worried about losing their jobs and making an egregious
05:48mistake and screwing it up and getting fired for it and being held accountable for it.
05:52And so they wind up making terrible decisions out of being conservative.
05:56They're afraid.
05:57Yeah, that could be.
05:58And you hope that they can see Drake May and that kind of snaps them out of it.
06:02It'd be like, are we doing the best for him?
06:04And this is the guy that can lead us out of this.
06:07Like, this team has stunk for a couple of years.
06:09You have the quarterback now.
06:11You can give him opportunity.
06:13Like, yeah, he might turn it over every once in a while.
06:15Not the end of the world.
06:16He also is going to make a lot more plays.
06:18Like, if you give him the chance to make more plays, I think they're going to outweigh
06:21any kind of negative play.
06:23So it's one thing to coach that way when you have Jacoby Percet or if you had Mac
06:27Jones or Bailey Zappi.
06:28You don't have that guy.
06:29You don't have any of those guys anymore.
06:31You have Drake May.
06:32So let him make plays, and hopefully that can change them a little bit.
06:37Now, it's a combination, right?
06:39You're going to need Alex Van Pelt to call a little bit more aggressive play calling.
06:43But then also Gerard Mayo, when it comes to those overall head coaching decisions,
06:48you know, when to punt, when not to punt, like just how aggressive you are,
06:51what's fourth down territory, what is and all that stuff.
06:53I don't know if you're going to get a big major change from those guys.
06:57But you would think if they want to keep their jobs, that has to be one of the
07:01selling points.
07:02Be like, all right, I know we started out really conservative, but we feel like
07:05now we have the confidence in Drake May.
07:07This is what's better for the team going forward.
07:10I don't think any of them have thick skin.
07:11I think they're all worried about being second guess.
07:13They're all worried about their own jobs.
07:15And just think about this.
07:16Shane Steichen should be worried about his job in Indianapolis.
07:19He has Anthony Richardson who can't throw.
07:21No.
07:22Can't throw.
07:23Nope.
07:24Does not throw.
07:25He went out there and was aggressive and tried to win and said, you know what?
07:28If I'm going down, I'm going down swinging.
07:30I'm going down aggressively.
07:32That's the Patriots' identity.
07:33They're afraid.
07:34And I don't know who to blame for that.
07:35I mean, maybe all the way to the top.
07:37Maybe you go right to Robert Kraft and say it's a bunch of guys who were forced
07:40together, a bunch of guys who aren't ready for their jobs, and a bunch of guys
07:45who, you know, aren't confident they're going to be here long term.
07:50So maybe you go right to the top with that one.
07:51I don't know whose fault that is, but the whole team's scared.
07:54And that's their identity.
07:55That's their problem.
07:56617-779-7937.
07:58Let's go to Coach in New Hampshire.
07:59What's up, Coach?
08:00Hey, guys.
08:02Great show.
08:03Your descriptors are right on with being scared.
08:07I do want to add one descriptor, and that's called delusional.
08:11Here's what I mean.
08:12Eight minutes to go in the game.
08:13You go run, run, third and long, sack, punt.
08:17Here's your delusion.
08:18Our defense can stop them.
08:20We're not going to give an 80-yard drive.
08:22The defense sucks.
08:24I don't know why it's gone this bad, but it's bad.
08:27So that was my anger yesterday.
08:29Then I woke up today, because sometimes a good night's sleep will do that,
08:32and I'm like, wait a minute.
08:34We have a fantastic young quarterback who, by the way,
08:38should have had the ball in his hands with eight minutes to go
08:41and thrown a couple of short passes and got us a field goal
08:44and a two-score lead.
08:46But we have a better draft choice this morning,
08:48and we have found a quarterback.
08:50That's where I'm at.
08:51Okay.
08:52Well, that's interesting.
08:53Positive spin in there at the end?
08:54I don't take it.
08:55I think I'm about at the point where I'm rooting for the draft pick.
08:59I'm pretty close to it.
09:00I'm usually very pro-draft and everything,
09:03but you already have the quarterbacks.
09:05I'm not as crazy about it.
09:07I need to flesh it out a little bit more over the bye week,
09:09but I'm pretty much at the point where I'm like.
09:11Do you think Elliot Wolfe's going to pick the right guy?
09:13No, probably not.
09:15Are you sure Wolfe's making the pick?
09:17Oh, well, I think so.
09:19Maybe not.
09:20I think so, but I'm not sure.
09:21No, I guess I'm not sure of anything.
09:23I question every decision I make.
09:24You should.
09:25And so I think I'm kind of at the point.
09:27What's another win going to do?
09:28Let's say they get one more win.
09:29Does that matter?
09:30Two might because then the over hits,
09:31and then I can brag about that a little bit.
09:33All right.
09:34Terp's got the tank-a-thon up right now.
09:35As of today, the Patriots are fourth.
09:38Of course, they have their bye week this week,
09:40so some of the teams.
09:42There's a lot of bad teams.
09:43Look how quick.
09:45If you win a fourth game, which I don't think they will,
09:47but if you do, all of a sudden you're down to ninth.
09:49There's a lot of awful teams right now.
09:52Yeah, like do I trust Elliot Wolfe to make the right pick?
09:54No, no, I do not.
09:55I'm not sure he'll be making the pick,
09:56but if he is, I don't trust him,
09:57but I'd rather have him making the pick at one than at nine.
10:00Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:01You know, so, I mean, it's as simple as that,
10:02but Coach's first point.
10:04Coach is getting a lot of flack, by the way.
10:05What people like Coach?
10:06In the Twitch chat.
10:07What do you mean?
10:08For referring to himself as Coach.
10:09Why?
10:10I don't know.
10:11Well, you want to just be like another Pete?
10:12Like call in something else.
10:14Guy from the 207 says, call me Maestro.
10:16Call in Maestro.
10:18We'll call you Maestro.
10:19I would happily call someone Maestro.
10:21That's fine.
10:22I like Coach.
10:23I like Big Head Tony.
10:24I like some of these names we have on the call screen.
10:27That's not true.
10:28So one of the guys in the Twitch chat says,
10:29it's like calling yourself a military rank when you've never served.
10:32Well, what if he is a coach?
10:34He's a coach.
10:35Yeah.
10:36That's not fake.
10:38It's like stolen valor is what's going on.
10:40Like if I was like, hey, Jones, call me Colonel.
10:42Like that would be outrageous.
10:44Don't call me Colonel.
10:45It's a good nickname, though.
10:47But here's where Coach, stolen valor or not, was coming from.
10:50The Patriots, 759 left.
10:52They have the ball at their own 48.
10:54This is a great call because we're talking about just how easily the Colts
10:58march down the field.
10:59Run for two up the middle to Stevenson.
11:01Nice.
11:02Right.
11:03This is before the Colts drive.
11:04This is before that.
11:05Run off left tackle for minus three yards with Stevenson,
11:07which again, just like the whole building knew you were running with
11:10Stevenson.
11:11And then they take a sack with Drake May on third and 11.
11:13Boom.
11:14Only punt of the day.
11:16And that conservative play calling, that scared play calling,
11:19is my gripe, too.
11:20Like you get down to the red zone on your opening drive.
11:22You get to settle for a field goal because you become predictable.
11:24Right before the half I thought was sackless play calling.
11:27And then this.
11:28Like there's a trend there, which bothers me.
11:30Well, this should have been much more of a momentum swing because you force
11:34a punt, right?
11:35So you force a punt.
11:36This is after the really bad Hunter Henry bobble that turns into an
11:41interception type of thing.
11:42So you have that.
11:43But then you force a punt, a three-and-out punt by the Colts.
11:45You get the ball back.
11:46You have a nice drive.
11:47March down the field.
11:48Score a touchdown and get the two-point conversion.
11:50So you go up by seven.
11:51You take a 24-17 lead.
11:53Two plays later, Christian Gonzalez comes up with a great interception.
11:56Should have been the game.
11:57Holy smokes.
11:58Like what a turn of events.
11:59You got the lead.
12:00You're up by a touchdown.
12:01Gonzalez just makes a great play.
12:03You force Richardson to throw.
12:04Bad things are going to happen for them.
12:06And then it's just you have the ball for two minutes.
12:09It's two runs, a sack, and then you give it back.
12:12And to Coach's point, they're thinking, well, we've got a good defense.
12:15Defense will win it.
12:17Our defense will get a sack.
12:18Defense will not win it.
12:19You need to keep scoring.
12:20You need to score as many points as possible.
12:22That's one of the reasons why we get so frustrated when they settle for
12:24field goals.
12:25If you had amazing defense, maybe you do win 17-10 or 20-17.
12:31Maybe you'd win more games like that.
12:32You don't have a great defense.
12:34And that was on full display on that final drive.
