00:00A Riverside matter plan in York, an acquisition for Insider and an investment
00:05deal for a Hull-based brewery all featured in today's business briefing.
00:14So Alice what have you come across today? So a really exciting story today actually
00:20for Insider because our parent company News Co Insider has expanded with
00:26the acquisition of the Business Magazine Group. So the company is based in
00:30Camberley and it operates seven B2B events serving the community across the
00:35south of England and it's also got two regional business magazines as well as a
00:39company and websites. So the deal advances the strategy of Insider's owner
00:44National World to become the most comprehensive platform for business and
00:48company news across the UK and David Montgomery who's the executive chairman
00:53of National World said that events in particular is kind of a key part of
00:57that growth strategy and so obviously this acquisition will accelerate that so
01:02yeah really good news and it's good to see the business growing. Yeah it's
01:06absolutely brilliant. Well some news in York now and so Helmsley Group has
01:11secured planning permission for the final part of the Colney Street
01:14Riverside matter plan and the development is set to bring some much
01:18needed residential space to the city and also reconnect York with the riverfront
01:23and so the development will cover three to seven Colney Street and the
01:29creation of a new Snickleway which will play a key role in reconnecting Colney
01:33Street with the River Ouse. So the existing shopfronts of the Colney Street
01:38buildings will be regenerated to reflect their historic character and the new
01:43ground floor retail space will be aimed at independent businesses. So Helmsley
01:47Group has said that this aligns with their vision to support local businesses
01:51and attract independent retailers and leisure owners to the area and work is
01:55set to begin in summer 2025. Lovely that sounds really nice I actually
02:00really love York so nice to see some kind of regeneration going on there.
02:04Definitely. Well moving over to the northeast we actually have some quite
02:08sad news an iconic music store that's operated in Newcastle since 1908 has
02:14closed its doors for the final time after failing to secure a buyer. So JG
02:20Windows has been located in Central Arcade it's actually been there since
02:24two years after the arcade opened so it's kind of a really you know a really
02:30long-standing business. Very sad for Newcastle and it's appointed Andrew
02:35Little and Gillian Saban of Begbie's Trainer as joint administrators and as a
02:40result of that 17 employees have been made redundant. So in 2023 the
02:46business was put up for sale this is I guess to reflect kind of the struggles
02:51of being a smaller shop. You know there's so many huge online music retailers so
02:58there's a lot of pressure for the smaller shops more regional shops but
03:03ultimately they didn't secure a buyer which is why it's now appointed
03:07administrators. The star's general manager Alex Cole said that the city
03:12will be a quiet place without it and it definitely will. Yeah well very
03:16disappointing news for Newcastle and so to end this on a more positive note
03:21a brewery called Atom announced that it has secured an investment deal
03:27and with the business owner Rob Brocklesby and so Atom brewery is based
03:33in Hull and it was founded in 2014 and opened it for its first taproom in 2018
03:38and which is also based in Hull and is located on Princess Avenue and so this
03:44investment follows a pre-packaged administration and is set to secure the
03:49future of the Atom beer brands and also ensure the continuity of the brewery
03:53and its base in Hull. So the investment will provide the necessary capital to
03:58drive the brewery forward and all staff members are being retained to ensure
04:02continuity and stability for the brand. Excellent definitely a more positive
04:06note to end the briefing on. If you would like to read more about that story or
