00:00We can say that the time is now to intervene in a decisive and strategic way in the contrast
00:10to antimicrobial resistance, how?
00:13First of all, harmonizing the strategies between Europe and individual countries, in this Italy
00:20is really doing a great job and I thank the Ministry of Health and the Deputy Secretary
00:25of Health because, for example, there is a fund of up to 100 million, predicted in a
00:35balance sheet, precisely to give an answer to antimicrobial resistance, to support
00:41the antibiotics in reserve, it is a fundamental signal and therefore this is the right direction
00:46to, on the one hand, ensure resources, today it is very difficult and discouraging to do
00:54research and development to develop new antibiotics or vaccines because there is no
01:00certainty of the value, in the end, that will be obtained at the time of reimbursement and,
01:07above all, since the guidelines for the use of antibiotics have those elements of stewardship
01:15that strictly control the use, the use and the good practices, it becomes less
01:24competitive and attractive as a research area compared to much wider therapeutic areas,
01:31but there is a value that concerns the collectivity, that concerns public health, that implies
01:39an even closer collaboration between the public and the private sector to have a system of
01:45strong European incentives, simple and little bureaucratized, to attract investment and
01:52to make companies work to develop new antibiotics and new vaccines and, on the other hand,
01:59faster access times and the right valuation when it comes to the
02:07single regulatory agency, but here I would say a very open debate, very useful, because there are
02:13also non-profit entities that play a fundamental role in coagulating startups, researchers on
02:21this topic, which is a much larger epidemic, for example, than that of Covid.
