00:0035,000 deaths caused each year in Europe, about 12,000 only in Italy and the antibiotic
00:10resistance is the theme at the center of the conclusive G7 health event in Bari, a two-day
00:15event dedicated to what the Ministry of Health identified as one of its priorities in the
00:19agenda of the Italian presidency of the G7.
00:21The first day saw preliminarily the confrontations between the medical-scientific community,
00:26medical institutions and the pharmaceutical industry, the first subjects involved in the
00:29issue.
00:30To explain what has already been done by the institutions in Italy, instead, the Undersecretary
00:35of Health, Marcello Gemmato, has thought about it.
00:36On the one hand, in fact, the use of antibiotics in the zootechnical line, which represents
00:41about 50% of the problem, is in a sensitive reduction thanks to the tracking of the
00:46medicines allowed by the electronic recipe.
00:48On the other hand, the government is allocating important resources to strategies aimed at
00:52encouraging good practices.
00:54The government has already, in the triennial plan of contrast to the antibiotic resistance,
00:58invested 40 million euros a year, therefore a structural investment, to combat the antibiotic
01:04resistance.
01:05In addition, Minister Giorgetti and Minister Schillaci in Ancona have announced the investment
01:12of 21 million euros in the so-called PUSH mechanism, that is, sustainability in investment
01:18and research.
01:19The government, in law of balance, has invested 100 million euros for the so-called antibiotic
01:26reserves, that is, antibiotics used to cure the pathologies for which there is no alternative
01:31therapy currently.
01:32The role of the institutions will therefore be fundamental.
01:35It is no coincidence that one of the in-depth studies has been dedicated to the policies
01:38to be put into perspective after the appointments of the G7.
01:41There is the awareness of an extraordinary emergency that can cause millions of deaths
01:47in the future.
01:48The road that goes through the government is the right one, a global approach that includes
01:53a strategy that is coordinated with all the countries of Europe, and in particular are
01:59campaigns of awareness, but also investments in research.
