Catalina Trust is a drama film directed by Will Conroy, released in 1999. The story centers on Marshall, a man who has overcome a challenging past and is on the verge of significant life changes, including a promotion at his marketing job and an impending marriage to Kitty Lehuesen, the most sought-after girl in his Brooklyn neighborhood. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he experiences a bizarre vision of his grandfather, Henry Pike, who he has not seen since childhood.
Plot Overview
The film opens with Marshall's seemingly stable life, but he is haunted by the betrayal of his grandfather, which has left a lasting impact on him. The situation escalates when Marshall sees an eerie image of Henry on television just as the old man passes away in Arizona. This prompts Marshall and his foster brother Freddie, a recent law school graduate with philosophical inclinations, to travel to Arizona to settle Henry's estate.
Upon their arrival, they discover the Catalina Inn, a historic landmark that holds sentimental value for the family. The eccentric staff at the inn welcome Marshall as if he is their savior rather than an executor of the estate. As Marshall navigates his feelings about his grandfather's legacy and confronts unresolved issues from his past, he begins to forge connections with the inn's staff and reevaluate what truly matters in life.
