The dominance of synthetic drugs such as amphetamine-type stimulants in the local market poses a challenge to the Home Ministry in eradicating drug abuse, says Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

The Deputy Home Minister said the shift in drug trends, particularly towards synthetic substances, has made it increasingly difficult for enforcement agencies like the police and the National Anti-Drugs Agency to combat the issue.

00:48The number of clients who underwent treatment and recovery in institutions and communities in Kedah
00:55under the auspices of the Indonesian Anti-Drug Agency, ADK, from January to September 2024 is a total of 5,960 people.
01:04Meanwhile, in Pendang area, a total of 462 people underwent treatment and recovery in the community.
01:15One of the causes of the drug problem in Pendang is due to the change in the trend
01:22from organic drugs to synthetic drugs.
01:26This is very challenging.
01:29If we look at the statistics showing the use of this type of ADS,
01:34it is a total of 115,410 people, which is 70.4% compared to the total number of cases.
01:44Until September 2024, the use of drugs was reduced to only about 4%, which is a total of 6,750 people.
01:56In terms of treatment and recovery programs in Kedah and run by ADK,
02:00through 30 drug recovery centers in Puspan, 109 ADK centers in Kedah,

02:54However, the efforts to continue the treatment of drugs by DRM and ADK
02:59will not reduce the drug use in this country.
03:04Therefore, of course, we hope that the local communities
03:08will work together to deal with this very challenging issue.
03:12And we hope that our target in 2025 to reduce the drug use can be achieved.
