00:00On Saturday, November 16, the Lungarno di Firenze was the theater of the last stage of the third edition of the Cardio Breast Dragon Boat Festival,
00:12a symbol event of rebirth for women with breast cancer.
00:16The Pink Paddlers competed in a friendly challenge on the Arno River,
00:20demonstrating how sport can represent a powerful tool for physical and psychological rehabilitation.
00:27When it comes to oncology, it must be said that it is a complex sector.
00:33It is complex from a point of view of numbers.
00:35At the moment, we have over 3.6 million people who are confronted with cancer diagnosis
00:43and live with predictable existential needs.
00:46As far as breast cancer is concerned, in Tuscany we think there are about 3,500 new diagnoses per year.
00:52We have a high survival rate, around 88%.
00:56Thanks to screening and early diagnosis programs,
01:00it is an ever-increasing therapeutic innovation, I would say almost groundbreaking for women.
01:06So it changes the patient's profile, it changes the approach of care.
01:11But in particular, I would like to emphasize the impact from a psychosocial point of view of oncological disease,
01:17and in particular in women with breast cancer,
01:20where they are confronted at the time of diagnosis with a before and after,
01:24with aspects that also concern the disintegration of the body image,
01:29as well as an impact on the entire family unit.
01:32Hence the flourishing of supportive and expressive activities, both individual and group,
01:37from a rehabilitative point of view.
01:39And the activity we are witnessing today goes beyond the rehabilitative aspect,
01:44to the prevention aspect, the aspect of education and health,
01:48on lifestyles, also associating with pathologies such as cardiovascular diseases.
01:53The risk factors are often the same, they are superimposable.
01:57But it is not just all this.
01:59In addition to giving, in a way, the rudder of one's life in the hands of women, in the hands of patients,
02:10but I would also say, in a way, a great testimony, a testimony of courage, of determination.
02:18And I would say that each of the women who carry out this activity in the Dragon Boot,
02:24I think they represent a bit of an agent of change for the whole community.
02:29The demonstration was born in 2022 by an initiative of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Research
02:35with the collaboration of the Italian Federation Dragon Boot
02:39and the non-conditioned contribution of Deici Sancti Italia,
02:42offering free cardiological screenings to the public,
02:45re-evaluating the importance of oncological and cardiovascular prevention.
02:50Today we are here to remind ourselves how important prevention is.
02:53Often when we talk about health, we think of care and treatments that we doctors can offer to patients,
02:59but we forget that the most important step is the one that starts from us,
03:03so prevention, having a healthy lifestyle, physical activity, avoiding smoking.
03:08And this leads us not only to prevent oncological diseases, but also cardiovascular diseases,
03:13which unfortunately today are the first cause of death in the whole population,
03:18but unfortunately also in women, who are often still widely under-treated and under-diagnosed.
03:23And with this initiative, today we, as cardiologists,
03:28will carry out a cholesterol test, a pressure test, an electrocardiogram,
03:33precisely to have a first picture of the patient,
03:36so we will carry out a cardiovascular screening to identify any conditions that may be subclinical
03:45and give advice to patients to prevent the development of a cardiovascular disease.
03:50With the conclusion of this third edition in Florence,
03:53the CardioBreast Dragon Boot Festival left an indelible mark,
03:57celebrating the courage of the pink paddlers,
03:59and it was confirmed the importance of investing in initiatives that promote prevention and awareness,
04:06improving the health and quality of life of people affected by breast cancer.
04:11We have reached the fourth and final stage of the third edition of the CardioBreast Dragon Boot Festival,
04:17an initiative that was born thanks to the unconditional contribution of De Cisanchio Italia
04:23and which aims to put the brakes on cardiovascular prevention and oncology.
04:29Speaking of sport, how sport unites people, makes them feel part of a team,
04:35but how sport is a great driver for the reduction of cardiovascular diseases
04:41and is particularly beneficial, especially for women with breast cancer.
04:46The CardioBreast represents just that,
04:48it represents a moment for these women to make a team, to do sport,
04:52to do prevention, also doing some cardiovascular screenings,
04:56and to spend time sharing their sports experiences.
04:59We are very happy as a company to support this initiative,
05:03we hope to be able to do it in the coming years
05:06and to make sure that this project across Italy is long and wide.
