00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World, and welcome to what is another video about Christmas.
00:06Now because we're going to be talking about the festive time of the year, it's important that we decorate properly.
00:11So, I'm going to get out my box of decorations, but the only problem is I don't really know where it's gone.
00:17Do you know where it is?
00:19Where?
00:21Behind me?
00:23Oh, yeah!
00:25Let's see what's in it, shall we?
00:30Seems to be just tinsel. Hmm, well, shall we get ready?
00:36Now, you wouldn't necessarily guess from looking out the window, but Christmas time is upon us, and with Christmas comes a whole host of exciting activities.
00:44I'm sure you will have seen all of our coverage on the wonderful Christmas markets and all the tip-top food, drink, wares and joy that is on offer there.
00:51But one of the most typically British things to do over the Christmas period is to commit wholeheartedly to a good old pantomime.
00:57Now, they're a huge part of British Christmas tradition, and there's plenty of options in Greater Manchester for you to choose from, so I'm going to run through a few of them now.
01:06Let's start with some of the better-known theatres in the centre of Manchester, and we'll sort of move outwards from there, shall we?
01:12Now, the Palace Theatre went early with their Christmas showing with an adaptation of the film Elf, only running there until the 17th of November.
01:19Though they do have Wicked running right through to the 12th of January, if you want less Fairy Godmother and more Glinda the Good Witch.
01:26At the Manchester Opera House, you do have about as traditional of a show as you can imagine.
01:31Comedian Jason Manford is joined by Britain's Got Talent finalist Ben Nicholas in a performance of Cinderella that looks wonderfully well-suited to people of all ages.
01:40Now, if you want something that's a bit suited to the older crowd, Tinderella at Hope Mill Theatre is the place to be.
01:47It advertises itself as a scandalous twist on Cinderella and promises to deliver an incredibly entertaining evening for all those old enough to attend.
01:55Waterside Theatre in Sale has delivered a very varied pantomime offering.
01:59The Glass Slippers plotted in for a one-day visit on the 24th of December, and only a few weeks later audiences could enjoy the totally improvised pantomime, all before Puss in Boots takes over from the 10th to the 19th of January.
02:10At the Middleton Arena, Sleeping Beauty is running until the 31st of December, with a live band, incredible stunts and a dazzling dance routine all promised.
02:18Aladdin will be performed at the Guide Bridge Theatre in Aldonshaw, with the evil Abanaza appearing to mess around in Aladdin's life.
02:25There are endless more to choose from, from I Wish, then Miracle on 34th Street both at the Home Theatre, Cinderella at Salford Arts Theatre, Robin Hood at the Bolton Little Theatre, Sleeping Beauty at the Plaza,
02:37Mother Goose at Millgate Arts Centre, Snow White at the Forum and so many more.
02:41Pantomimes really are everywhere, and from my own experience they can bring joy to adults and children alike, so be open-minded and get yourself down to one this year.
02:49After all, if you want to know the key to a perfect Christmas...
