00:00Former President Rodrigo Duterte recently attended a quadcom hearing.
00:04His confessions and his consent to join the ICC
00:08will be heard by Professor Antonio Contreras at Punto de Vista, Professor.
00:17Thank you very much and good morning.
00:20We witnessed the sometimes dramatic,
00:24sometimes sad,
00:25sometimes hilarious scenes in the yesterday's quadcom hearing.
00:30And it's very clear here that former President Duterte's
00:36former Senator Laila de Lima is about to punch him
00:40while he also wants to throw the microphone
00:44to former Senator Antonio Trillanes.
00:48However, in spite of these dramas,
00:50there are two significant things that happened in the hearing.
00:53First, President Duterte's continued confession
00:56that he is responsible for his war on drugs,
01:02whether it's legal or illegal.
01:05He continued to do that under oath.
01:09And in effect, he affirmed that over and over again.
01:14He asked questions over and over again.
01:16So we can't say that this was just an accident,
01:19that he was the only one who made fun of it.
01:21What's more shocking in the yesterday's hearing
01:25is his invitation to the ICC.
01:28He went to the Philippines.
01:30In fact, he was just given a massage
01:33and he was willing to go to the ICC.
01:35This is a sign that he was really taken by surprise.
01:40It's like he was challenged.
01:43The government immediately responded.
01:47Secretary Lucas Verzamina said that
01:51if that's the case, the Philippines will not help.
01:55Even though we have a sovereign status as a country,
01:58and I've been discussing this for a long time
02:00here at Punto de Vista and in my column and in my blogs,
02:05that we have freedom and that the ICC should not interfere.
02:09But if President Duterte himself said that he has no problem,
02:14then maybe it's time for us to give the ICC freedom to investigate.
02:22He will go to the ICC because what he promised to you,
02:25what he said hurtfully, he has no problem with it.
02:28Because he said that under oath.
02:31He's not making fun of it.
02:33He's not under duress.
02:34He was not forced.
02:36So we all saw it.
02:39So maybe even if it hurts me personally
02:42to accept that as a free country,
02:45the one who promised to be okay with him,
02:47he will not give up.
02:49That's my point of view this morning.
02:52Go back to the studio, Diane.
02:55Thank you very much.
02:56Good morning.
02:58Thank you very much, Professor Antonio Contreras.
