00:00Pag-asa provides a 24 to 36 hour lead time warning to the public for the approaching
00:07typhoons Ophel and Pipito allowing for even earlier prep time.
00:11These are the 5th and 6th consecutive typhoons to hit the country.
00:15Some towns in Cagayan Valley are still recovering from floods when another typhoon threatens
00:19the eastern coast of Isabela and Cagayan.
00:22Due to the latest streak of typhoons, the public is befuddled and scratching their heads
00:26wishing for more answers than questions.
00:28The track of the 3 typhoons, Nica, Ophel, and Manny, are supposedly the same.
00:38Why are they initially the same?
00:42Pag-asa explains the typhoon's track was initially headed north, away from the Philippines.
00:46However, a weather system is forcing the typhoons to cross northern Luzon.
00:50Typhoons are trying to avoid the reach of high pressure area.
00:54Research shows a similar scenario in 1948 when 6 typhoons hit the country in November.
01:06It happened again in 1956 with 5 typhoons.
01:10The formation of these typhoons is linked to the high temperature of the Pacific Ocean,
01:14particularly when it reaches 27 degrees Celsius.
01:18The intense red area of the Pacific Ocean indicating high temperatures is where the
01:22recent series of typhoons have originated.
01:25One notable change in typhoon formation is the decreasing number which Pag-asa has tracked
01:30since 1948.
01:31The number of typhoons that enter the park is decreasing.
01:37The frequency is decreasing.
01:39But in terms of intensity of the typhoons, that is the increasing trend that we are seeing.
01:46The typhoons are becoming more intense.
01:50Based on our historical record, from 1948 up to 2023 typhoons, the typhoon category
01:58is the highest.
02:00Fortunately, there's no Amihan or Northeast Monsoon wind yet to push the typhoons further
02:05down.
02:06If the Northeast Monsoon is strong, Visayas or Mindanao might be hit.
02:10The DSWD has prepared 92,302 family food packs for Cagayan Valley and a standby fund of 2.2
02:16billion pesos for typhoon affected areas.
02:19Government's target?
02:20Zero casualty, no hunger.
02:22The additional aid includes over 80 million pesos, 1.3 million family food packs, and
02:27non-food items worth over 860 million pesos.
02:31The government aims for zero hunger and casualties despite the series of typhoons hitting the
02:36country.
