00:00With the explosive admissions and even a challenge but made by former President Rodrigo Duterte
00:05to the International Criminal Court or ICC to immediately conduct a probe on the alleged
00:11extrajudicial killings being linked to his drug war during the House Quiet Committee
00:15hearing, the Marcos administration now leaves it up to the International Investigating Body
00:20to make its next move.
00:22PTD's Mena Lesmoras has the full report.
00:27Malacanang respects former President Rodrigo Duterte's desire to surrender himself to the
00:32jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court although the Philippines is no longer
00:37a member of the ICC.
00:39According to Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, the government will neither object to it nor
00:44move to block the fulfillment of Duterte's decision.
00:47But if the ICC refers the process to the Interpol, the domestic law enforcement agencies shall
00:52be bound to fully cooperate with them, pursuant to established protocols.
00:57The DOJ reiterates that despite the withdrawal of the Philippines from the Rome Statute
01:05in 2019, the country remains a member of the Interpol.
01:09Thus, when requests are made by the ICC through the Interpol, and Interpol in turn relays
01:14such requests to our country, the Philippine government is legally obliged to accord due
01:18course to the latter by all means.
01:21But President Francis Escudero had also this to say.
01:37Duterte's statement regarding the ICC emerged during the 11th hearing of the House Squad
01:42Committee today.
01:51The ICC is not there for all time.
02:17Following this, the former president made a series of admissions regarding the issues
02:22raised against him.
02:23He confirmed there was indeed planting of evidence during his time as mayor in Davao
02:28City.
02:29And he also confirmed the issue on the reward system.
02:31At one point during the hearing, he also admitted killing people before when the situation called
02:36for it.
02:47For
03:15the first time, the families of alleged EJK victims were able to express their grievances
03:20and sorrow in front of Duterte.
03:22To this day, all they call for is for justice to be served.
03:45At the hearing, former President Duterte and former Senator Laila de Lima, one of his staunch
04:05critics, were seated right next to each other.
04:08De Lima directly denied the accusations made against her by the Duterte administration
04:12on the issue of illegal drugs.
04:15Absolutely false.
04:19That is a fictitious, bogus allegation against me.
04:24I am free from the three of them because I have nothing to do with illegal drugs.
04:32It is just part of their propaganda.
