00:00Former President Rodrigo Duterte attended the Senate hearing on the country's war on illegal

00:04drugs and answered many of the allegations against him. At some point, the former chief

00:09executive was seemingly about to confirm the existence of a group that for so long has been

00:14linked to him by many of his detractors, but immediately retracted a statement when

00:18pressed further to clarify. Daniel Manalastas tells us more.

00:23Former President Rodrigo Duterte and former Senator Laila de Lima, known to be

00:30nemesis to each other, just were a seat apart during the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee hearing

00:36on the war on illegal drugs in the previous administration.

00:40Duterte faced the Senators for the first time to explain.

00:53No excuses. I did what I had to do. For all of its successes and shortcomings, I, and I alone,

01:08take full legal responsibility.

01:12For all that the police have done pursuant to my order, I am responsible.

01:20De Lima, meanwhile, also hit the former president.

01:24This man, the former mayor of Davao City and the former president of the Republic of the Philippines,

01:37for so long have evaded justice and accountability. For the thousands of those killed

01:47in the name of the so-called war on drugs.

01:59Meanwhile, there was also a tension between Duterte and Senator Risa Monteveros. It went

02:04high during the Senator's line of questioning over the death of Kian De Los Santos, a teen-ager

02:10and alleged victim of the previous administration's illegal drugs war.

02:15Do you assume responsibility for the death of Kian De Los Santos?

02:20No.

02:31The two continued to trade barbs during the hearing, as Monteveros continued to

02:36grill the former president on his controversial war on drugs.

02:45Meanwhile, Duterte dropped this truth bomb during the Senate probe.

03:50It is expected that more hearings will be conducted regarding the illegal drugs war.
