00:00A very unique set of circumstances tonight.
00:02Right, and I don't imagine that Klay's dad will be here.
00:05Klay's dad has a job that would probably keep him from being here tonight,
00:08but just the emotions of, you know, what Klay is going to feel,
00:12because it's got to be mixed, because on the one hand,
00:15yeah, you're coming back to a place where you won four titles,
00:18and you played 13 years, but on the other side of it,
00:22you are a Maverick, and your job is to go out there and play well,
00:26and win, and beat this team.
00:27So it's not as easy as, like, a 39-year-old who is a bench writer for a team,
00:34and, you know, it's your last year, and whatever,
00:37or you're a retired player coming back.
00:39You're still feeling like you have a lot to prove,
00:41and you're earning a contract with a new team.
00:44It's a new team, and so you don't want to come here
00:47and just be totally fawning over your time here,
00:50and fawning over the Warriors.
00:52You're coming here with a killer mentality.
00:54Totally.
00:54You're Killer Klay.
00:55You want to come here and tear their heart out and win this game.
00:59Well, you're also, and I respect athletes for this,
01:03at least those who take it this way,
01:05like, you have a job to do,
01:07and you are highly, highly paid in order to go out there and do it.
01:13Loosely, loosely, Klay Thompson is going to make
01:16somewhere between $200,000 and $250,000 tonight.
01:19Your job is to go make buckets against the Warriors,
01:24and you can't let that get overwhelmed.
01:27You have a duty to go out there and not let that get overwhelmed
01:32by your feelings, your past, and all of that,
01:34and so that's where I sort of tuck all of the things
01:38that Klay has said within the last 48 hours
01:41that let's just be real.
01:42They don't feel good to Warriors fans.
01:45It doesn't feel good when he says this chapter's closed.
01:48It doesn't feel good when he says
01:49this is just another garden variety regular season November game,
01:53but I understand, and I thought Steve Kerr tried to speak to this,
01:57I understand where he's coming from on that.
01:59He can't let tonight be all about him.
02:03He's got a job to do.
02:04Right, and his job is to go out there
02:07as a starting player for the Mavericks,
02:09a team that is in need of a win.
02:10They've lost two in a row.
02:12His job is to come out here and score and win
02:16and beat Golden State and start to turn this thing around,
02:18and I mentioned to Steini and Guru earlier
02:21about the six players who have ever done what Klay is trying to do,
02:24which is you win four titles in one spot
02:27and then you go back and you play in that place,
02:30and if you think about them all individually,
02:32Michael Jordan, he won six and he went to Washington.
02:36That was unique because nobody thought
02:38that he would come back and really be a threat.
02:41It was Michael Jordan.
02:42Sure.
02:42Scottie Pippen is the one that I think is the best comp
02:45because when he came back,
02:46he still had four more years of good basketball
02:49and he won six titles,
02:51and when he was coming back,
02:52it's a lot more like Klay,
02:53and I'm looking at the Tony Parker return right now
02:56when he comes back to San Antonio as a Charlotte Hornet.
03:01He comes off the bench with five minutes left.
03:04He played one year in Charlotte,
03:05so this is not that,
03:07and Kurt Rambis, same thing.
03:09Kurt Rambis, when he won four titles in LA
03:12and he went elsewhere,
03:13he came back and he was a bit player,
03:16for me, the only real comp to this is Scottie Pippen,
03:20and when Pippen left Chicago,
03:23that whole thing was done and he wasn't forced out.
03:26Klay was kind of forced out.
03:28Well, yeah, I mean,
03:29although he was one of the driving forces
03:32of forcing him out, you know what I mean?
03:35He has stated a number of times,
03:38it's time for a fresh start,
03:40and so now he's got it,
03:41and yes, maybe that was based on him
03:43not getting the contractual offer that he wanted
03:45or based on the fact that the Warriors
03:47were straight with him and said,
03:48your role is going to diminish
03:51and it might even not be as a starter,
03:53and so these things are all attached to one another,
03:56and we know that there were feelings there,
03:58but I'm with you.
04:01This is really, it is hard to comp.
04:03It is hard to comp,
04:04and to me, that's a wonderful thing
04:07for anybody who's got a ticket tonight
04:09or even anybody who's gonna watch the game tonight
04:12because this is a very, very unique
04:15set of circumstances.
04:17Maybe you look at them not as all positive,
04:19some positive, some negative,
04:21some weird, some awkward, whatever,
04:23but this is an experience that I'd say
04:26is pretty close to unlike any other
04:28in the history of sports
04:29because it's a high, high level return.
04:32The player is still able to play
04:34at a pretty high level.
04:35He's still a starter for another team,
04:37and it's four months.
04:39It's four months ago
04:40that we got this final answer
04:42that Klay was no longer going to be a warrior,
04:44so this all is happening really, really fast
04:48with all of those emotions and factors in play.
04:51This is just the number one thing
04:52that I wanna say today.
04:54I wanna have fun with this.
04:56I wanna spend some time.
04:58Even if you are having, I don't know,
05:02some sort of a hard time with this,
05:03Klay's attitude last year,
05:05the Warriors are better now,
05:08I don't like what Klay said over the weekend,
05:09whatever it is,
05:11I tried to spend some time doing this today,
05:13and I hope you all have too.
05:16Get back in touch at least for 24 hours
05:21with your favorite moments of Klay Thompson,
05:24and we'll help you.
05:25We'll help you.
05:25We'll play some of them.
05:26Well, it's not that hard
05:27if you've been a Warrior fan for 10 or more years.
05:30But it's more fun to hear them.
05:31It's super fun to hear them, I'm with you.
05:33And re-experience them
05:35because it brings those chills back up
05:37or those feelings.
05:38So just like for me,
05:40that's what I wanna do today.
05:42I wanna get back in touch with the moments
05:45that made this fan base fall in love with Klay,
05:48and then go experience the game tonight.
05:50I'm not with Gu, though, by the way.
05:53This experience for me lasts until tip-off.
05:56Not until tomorrow.
05:57It lasts until tip-off.
05:59And I hope he feels acknowledged.
06:02I hope he feels loved.
06:04I hope the fan bases enjoy the hell out of this moment.
06:08And then I hope the Warriors kick the Mavs
06:10you-know-what tonight.
06:11Of course.
06:12And you know I feel the same way
06:13because I don't like Kyrie Irving as a player.
06:16I never met the man.
06:17And I don't like Luka Doncic as a player.
06:20If I did my top 10 players who I dislike,
06:24those two are clearly in the top 10.
06:25And so, yeah, beat Dallas.
06:27And I was wearing my Warriors, Warriors, Warriors shirt
06:30earlier when I got doused by Lucas.
06:32And that was from the Western Conference Finals
06:35where they beat Dallas.
06:36I went to that game.
06:38Four was unnecessary.
06:39I went to that game with my father-in-law.
06:41And a couple of weeks ago, I went over to their house.
06:43And we both had that shirt on.
06:44And it was kind of cool.
06:45We were twinning.
06:46But that shirt reminds me of that series
06:49where Dallas came in here.
06:51And Dallas got shown the door.
06:53And the Warriors went on to win the championship.
06:54So for me, tonight, it's weird because it's not, for me,
06:59about Klay's feelings.
07:01It's about my feeling.
07:02And it's about the fans' feelings.
07:03I agree.
07:04And Klay can feel however he wants to feel.
07:06Every human being is allowed to feel how they want to feel.
07:09And if he wants to come in here and be agitated or chippy
07:14or not take the mic or whatever he wants to do,
07:17I'm here for it.
07:19And I love Klay.
07:20And I have no ill will toward whatever he wants to do
07:23because, and I was going to say this during the crossover,
07:26because between the four of us, we have 12 kids
07:29by seven different women.
07:30Wow, you were really doing some math while we were talking.
07:32Driving in, I was thinking about it because all of us have-
07:35Would you say 12 kids by seven different-
07:38All four of us have three.
07:39Okay.
07:40And the three of us, not you, have three by two
07:43and you have three by one.
07:44Yeah.
07:44And so between the four of us, we have 12 children
07:48and seven women who birthed those children.
07:52And so if you want to talk about all the complexities of that,
07:56and I won't get into it because it's your life,
07:59my life, Guru and Steini,
08:01but the complexities are such that you and me
08:04and Steini and Guru,
08:06we all get to feel how we want to feel about reunions
08:10and my divorce.
08:12And my ex-wife held a graduation party for my oldest son
08:16and I went there with my new wife and my baby
08:18and it was like, it was a different deal, right?
08:22I showed up to my son's graduation party
08:24with my wife who I'd been married to
08:26for about five months and a baby.
08:28I'm pretty sure that there's a sitcom
08:31that was made about these things
08:32and it's called Modern Family.
08:34Right.
08:35That's what this is about.
08:36Our sitcom would be four men and 12 babies.
08:39Not so catchy, but...
08:40No, it's not bad.
08:41It made me think about tonight with Clay
08:43because we don't get to tell Clay
08:45how he wants to feel about this,
08:47but Clay doesn't get to tell me how I feel about it.
08:51And my feelings are exuberance and reflection and joy.
08:56And I'm so happy that he is healthy and playing
09:00and I'm also happy that our team, my team,
09:03and I was a fan of this team
09:05before any of these guys were born.
09:06We're eight and two, dawg.
09:07Yeah, I'm glad that my team is favored tonight.
09:10That's what I'm talking about.
09:11Yeah, I won't make a pick
09:12because I don't want to ruin the night.
09:14Please don't.
09:14Your voice suddenly is cold.
09:15Yeah, I already...
09:16Like literally and figuratively.
09:18I already put dough on the Warriors tonight.
09:19Oh, look at you, so did I.
09:21Sorry about that.
09:23Anyway, nevermind, you ruined it.
09:25You know what?
09:26No, let's get everyone in the mood
09:27and I think, Dibbs, what you're saying
09:29is exactly where we are.
09:30And I hope that that resonates
09:32with each and every one of you listening.
09:34Like from our perspective, today is not about Klay,
09:39it's about you.
09:41So like I sort of have these platform questions,
09:45if you will.
09:46There's the simple one of
09:48how does tonight make you feel?
09:50Okay, and then the other one is,
09:52but like if you were gifted 10 seconds with Klay Thompson
09:56before the game tonight,
09:57what would you say to him?
09:59What would you say to him?
10:00So we can take your calls.
10:02Michael Thompson's gonna join us in six minutes.
10:04888-957-9570 is the number.
10:08Grandy, why don't you hit DM43?
10:11I love this.
10:12And let's get a little vibe going here.
10:16This is the montage of when Klay Thompson
10:20scored 37 freaking points in one NBA quarter.
10:27Klay, three.
10:28Yes, sir.
10:30Oh, man.
10:32Klay driving again.
10:34God.
10:36You're killing me.
10:38Get it to him again.
10:40He's got it.
10:42His three.
10:44Oh, my God.
10:46Have you ever seen anything like this?
10:48He got him again.
10:50There again, his three.
10:52Oh, my God.
10:54If you're wondering what the NBA record is
10:57for most points in a quarter,
10:59you just watched it.
11:03George Gerben at 33 in a quarter.
11:07And Klay Thompson has 50
11:12and 37 in a quarter.
11:16Klay Thompson, I'm gonna repeat that.
11:1937 in a quarter.
11:22All right.
11:24In a quarter.
11:24That gets you in the mood a little bit.
11:26It's all getting me in the mood.
11:27I need more of it, Grandy.
11:29All the Klay you've got.
11:31Unleash the chamber.
11:32Shoot your shot.
11:33It's all you got.
11:34I'm ready.
11:35But every time we hear all those highlights,
11:37I get even more readier, readiest.
11:41Sure, whatever, whatever.
11:43Much more ready.
11:43I'm not like my grandma.
11:45I'm not going to correct your English.
11:47Especially when you know it's intentional.
11:49Whatever.
