00:00Yes, so really shocking news this morning. It's unclear the scale of these events so
00:06far. About 2,500 supporters of Maccabi Tel Aviv have traveled to Amsterdam. And there
00:13have been reports, as you said, by the police of them being attacked verbally, kicked, beaten
00:18up, fireworks being thrown. Five people have been wounded. They've all left hospital. It
00:25seems supporters were easily identifiable because they were often wearing supporters'
00:29clothing and waving Israeli flags.
00:31And this wasn't exactly unexpected. There was a massive police presence deployed throughout
00:37the city above. It started out with protests in the center of Amsterdam, which were shielded
00:42by riot police. But, obviously, it escalated massively after the match.
00:49Already before, the mayor of Amsterdam had tried to keep pro-Palestine supporters separate
00:54from this match. They had wanted to protest and were redirected to a site about a kilometer
00:59away. When they tried to approach the stadium, they were stopped by riot police.
01:04I spoke to someone who was at the match, and he said there was a lot of police presence
01:08trying to stop this from happening. But, of course, as events now transpire, they were
01:12not successful in that. And, indeed, the riot police had to escort supporters on the metro
01:17back to the center and even back to their hotels.
01:21And there's been a number of videos circulating on social media where we can see people being
01:25assaulted, even shown Israeli passports. But that is still unverified. And people are now
01:32being arrested. But, yes, things still unfolding here.
01:38As we understand more about what actually transpired Thursday evening, what's next in
01:43all of this?
01:46Many supporters are trying to leave as fast as possible. The airport of Schiphol is seeing
01:50them flood in, many of them trying to leave early. As you said, Israel is sending two
01:54planes. The first will leave at 2 p.m. today.
01:58And, of course, we're seeing condemnation stream in. As you said, the Dutch prime minister
02:02has condemned these attacks as anti-Semitic. And politicians here across the board have,
02:07of course, condemned these attacks. Geert Wilders, the leader of the biggest party in
02:11Parliament, as well as the Israeli president, have even called them a pogrom.
02:15We're also expecting the Israeli foreign minister, Gideon Saar, to arrive in the Netherlands
02:19today. And, of course, investigations will continue. As you said, 62 people have been
02:24arrested so far. Police are trying to identify more, many of them wearing dark clothing,
02:30hoodies, maybe scarves are wrapped around their faces, which is going to complicate
02:34things.
02:35But they're calling on anyone who was a victim of this to report to the police and file a
02:38complaint, so they can hopefully catch more people.
02:41Now, as you said, it's a developing story. There will be a press conference here in about
02:44an hour, where police will be telling us more. And so we'll hope to get more details then.
