00:00The sheer number of displaced is staggering.
00:03In a nation of nearly six million,
00:05the Lebanese prime minister said that Israeli strikes on Lebanon
00:09may have forced a million people to flee.
00:12Whether they've gone north to Beirut,
00:14east to Syria or southeast to Jordan,
00:16officials say hundreds of thousands have had to evacuate their homes
00:20at the drop of a hat.
00:22Many count their blessings to be alive.
00:26There were a lot of strikes in the area where we live,
00:28so we had no choice but to move.
00:31The road to come here was very difficult.
00:33They were striking cars.
00:34It was by the mercy of God that we made it.
00:37We came without knowing where we were going.
00:40Inside on Lebanon, families did the best they could.
00:44Eking out a bit of shade and setting up makeshift beds in a parking lot.
00:48Schools have been transformed into makeshift points of refuge.
00:52Food distribution areas have been set up.
00:55The Lebanese government says some 250,000 people are now in shelters.
00:59Four times that are elsewhere.
01:01Some have been welcomed by strangers,
01:04fellow citizens who in solidarity have opened up their extra rooms.
01:10Every day when I pass by,
01:11I knock on their door to check up on them and see what they need.
01:15I feel the fear and anxiety in their eyes.
01:18They're always afraid of getting hurt.
01:20That's because of what they went through, what they witnessed.
01:24Already prior to this war,
01:25Lebanon was home to the largest number of refugees per capita
01:29and per square meter in the world,
01:31with around a million and a half Syrian refugees.
01:34This, in conjunction with Lebanon's economic crisis,
01:37means that now that Israeli bombs are raining down,
01:40an already difficult situation has become all the more desperate.
