Transcript
00:00Wintry scenes are emerging we have blizzard warnings in parts of the
00:03southern Rockies as a slow-moving storm brings additional heavy snow into the
00:08weekend. That's right now AccuWeather storm chaser and meteorologist Tony
00:12Laubach he's following this major storm this for this first major winter storm
00:16he's live right now in La Junta, Colorado with the update. Tony go ahead.
00:23Yeah Damian we are in the midst of round two. If you remember about a day or so
00:29ago I was talking about the closure of I-70 with the first round that went
00:33through we are now in the midst of the second of three rounds that this
00:37incredible winter storm is going to produce for a good chunk of Colorado
00:42east of the Rockies here in La Junta, Colorado. You see the snow is pretty deep
00:46I've actually measured over a foot pretty consistently from Rocky Ford and
00:51points east and a lot of this coming from the earlier storm that we had about
00:55a day or so ago so we're piling snow on top of snow and it's come down in
00:59bursts and some of those bursts have been pretty pretty heavy but it's been
01:03the travel that has been the big deal we're gonna take it back toward the west
01:06to I-25 because really it's going to be the closures that we are going to start
01:09to see really piling up that has already been the case this year I-25 this is at
01:14mile marker exit 91 south side of Pueblo at stem Beach where they are
01:20pulling traffic southbound off I-25 they are trying to get ahead of a lot of
01:25the issues that they are likely going to have in that heavy snow particularly
01:28south of Pueblo really starts to add up they're talking anywhere from two to
01:33three feet plus in some of those areas and that includes the I-25 corridor so
01:37they don't want people on the roads I-25 from Pueblo to Raton, New Mexico that's
01:42about a hundred mile stretch of I-25 in addition we've got the closure of I-70
01:47from Denver to Burlington that likely going to be a long-term deal as we're
01:52going to see that snow continue into Friday and Saturday in addition to that
01:56we've got numerous state and US highways that are closed folks if you are
02:00anywhere in the state of Colorado or you are getting into Colorado from outside
02:04the state travel is not recommended by any stretch the Lincoln County Sheriff I
02:09saw on social media posting if you were on the roads you will get stranded this
02:13snow is coming down heavy and again this is on top of snow that we've already
02:16seen over previous days some locations well over a foot and for many of them
02:21the snow hasn't even really gotten going yet so we're gonna add another double
02:25digits to that as we go through the day on Thursday now as we get into Friday
02:30after a little bit of a lull we're gonna start to see the last round of this
02:34storm that's gonna come through that's gonna be a little bit further north
02:37Denver under winter storm warnings now we've seen those just recently upgraded
02:41so they're concerned with double-digit snow totals in the Denver metro area as
02:44well so for the first storm of the season guys this is a biggie and I've
02:48been in Colorado a long long time typically we kind of work our way in but
02:53November's kind of one of these weird months for us where we can sometimes get
02:56some big-time snows and we are gonna see that here over the next few days and
03:00you're not kidding Tony look at these numbers here 34 inches of snow at
03:03Levada Pass Colorado San Isabel 32 inches Cuchara 31 inches of snow Las
03:09Vegas New Mexico two feet of snow there in Las Vegas New Mexico beautiful scene
03:13in Colorado Springs
