00:00All right, the Rockies have been seeing plenty of snow the last few days late later this week. We'll be tracking storms
00:07Meteorologist Tony Lovac has been on the move driving from Arkansas where you were chasing severe weather to Burlington, Colorado
00:14Looking for the snow Tony. That's about
00:17900 miles
00:19How do you do it? And I'm so happy to see you back in your element. I
00:23I
00:25Got to tell you I am
00:28thrilled
00:29Because I mean seriously folks if you're at home and you're watching us and you're sitting here me standing out here
00:34You got to be wondering. It's like yes folks. I drove
00:38900 miles yesterday just so I could be here to tell you
00:43Winter has arrived in Colorado and this is the eastern, Colorado folks. We talked about the Rockies getting absolutely pummeled
00:50This is basically Kansas
00:52And that's half of the eastern part of the state
00:55I know a lot of you that haven't been out west just assume Colorado is all mountains
00:58We are not we are in the high plains out here. And this is one of these
01:02amazing areas for
01:04Meteorologists and weather nerds like myself because the high plains not only offer some of the most wild and dynamic weather you will ever see
01:10It offers instances like this folks. This all kind of came together yesterday. In fact 24 hours ago
01:18There were no advisories or watches in effect and we were talking some light accumulations this storm got organized
01:24It became clear that this was going to be an issue and that is why I am here right now
01:28We've got five inches of a heavy wet thick snow
01:33This is the dangerous type of snow to drive in
01:35Probably the hardest type of snow to drive in if you want my personal opinion here because this is the type of snow that coats
01:41The road not only is it slick
01:42But it has that grip to it and I kind of drove up and down some of the in nearby areas here and I 70
01:48that bridge right behind me is what I
01:5070 is right now and I've had a few instances even in my all-wheel-drive
01:54Vehicle where the snow just grabbed me enough to where I had to kind of release the gas and get the car to get back
01:59On the control. Otherwise, it was going to take me off the side of the road
02:02That is going to be a huge issue for folks probably from the far western, Kansas
02:07This is going to go all the way back west to the Denver Metro area
02:11Let's show you a couple of the maps here because we're looking at two rounds of snow here
02:14We're starting with the round that's occurring today saw the snow up last night for a lot of areas again
02:21This kind of worked from west to east. We saw the snow fill in here after midnight last night
02:25You see where those heavier totals are going to be and then we shift over to the next round
02:30This is going to be the Thursday into Friday time frame and notice where that's really kind of centering itself here
02:35Really the southern half of Colorado
02:38Southeastern Colorado, so we're talking from like Colorado Springs Pueblo Trinidad those folks along the I-25 corridor and then points east
02:45I think areas like Lamar get absolutely hammered with this storm as we get Thursday Friday even into Saturday morning
02:53I-25 I-70 the major routes in eastern Colorado both are going to be exceptionally hazardous here right now
02:59The interstates remain open some of the state roads are going to be having some issues
03:04I would imagine we will see a couple of closures when we get some of that snow that really starts to stick here right now
03:09I haven't noticed any major issues right now between the Kansas border and
03:13Points just further to the west where I'm going to be out on the road as I'm working my way back
03:17Toward the front range is I'm not only staying for this particular storm
03:21But I'm going to get to southern Colorado guys for the next round. That's going to be coming through
03:25Tony you're you're saying you don't want to go to Key West for hurricane coverage. Oh
03:30Oh
03:32No, no, no, no, no, no, man, this is
03:37We should get a picture of him here and then a couple days ago when he was chasing severe weather
03:42He was in a short shirt. So he's seen it all. It's it's amazing 48 hours. All right, Tony law back
03:48coming from Eastern, Colorado
