Heavy snow shuts down interstates and leaves hotels booked throughout eastern Colorado

Multiple feet of snow in Colorado is causing major travel problems.

00:00I grew the meteorologist and storm chaser Tony Laubach has been tracking this slow-moving system tonight

00:05He's live in Denver with the details Tony

00:10Yeah, Damien we are in the midst of what is going to be a historic snowstorm for a lot of eastern, Colorado

00:17And this is the third round of this we've been seeing this snow since early in the week

00:22Numerous highways have been shut down over the course of the the last several days and that is going to continue

00:28Likely well into tomorrow if not possibly on Sunday, we talked about some of those big closures

00:33We'll take you out to I-70

00:35This is in Watkins on the east side of Denver right now where they've got I-70 eastbound closed down

00:41I-70 westbound closed down as well. This is one of the two major interstates here in Colorado

00:46I-25 the other one and that is shut down from Pueblo all the way into New Mexico for dangerous conditions out there

00:54And that's not including all the state in US highways that we are seen shut down

00:59And again many of those likely to continue to be shut down at least into the early part of the weekend

01:05Colorado State Patrol urging people not to travel in eastern, Colorado

01:09They are reporting that every hotel on I-76 I-70 US-50

01:15All the hotel rooms are booked up truck stops are completely filled and without parking

01:20So anybody who's trying to get into the state or anybody who just happens to be out?

01:25You don't have any place to be get where you need to get tonight

01:28If you are trying to get anywhere in the state of Colorado, you're not going to get here

01:32So stay where you are. The travel is going to be impossible another big note here of worth a mention

01:37Commercial vehicle travel that would include semi trucks

01:40All the CMVs are not going to be permitted to travel I-25

01:44Between Castle Rock and Colorado Springs mile markers 150 and mile markers 180 starting at 4 o'clock today

01:51Mountain time and that's going to continue into Saturday morning as the Palmer divide that area usually gets hammered

01:57With systems like this making travel virtually impossible, especially for some of those big rigs

02:02We've seen many of those having issues just on some of the city streets town streets. So that is going to be a major issue

02:07So again, no commercial vehicle travel will be permitted on I-25 between mile markers 150 and mile markers 180

02:14It's between roughly Castle Rock in Colorado Springs kicking off at 4 o'clock

02:18and again

02:19we've got all the closures that we've mentioned I 70 from Denver basically to the Kansas border I

02:2425 from Pueblo South to New Mexico and points beyond and again all of the

02:30Colorado State Patrol all the local sheriff's departments

02:33Everybody's been on their social media pages begging people not to travel right now. We are in kind of a wall

02:39We've got some light snow here, but we are expecting things to ramp up significantly after about four or five o'clock today

02:45So folks in Denver get ready

02:47The hardest part of this storm is going to come this evening making for a Friday evening commute

02:52I think a lot of people will really want to forget by the time it's all said and done
