00:00I'll just concede that you won the toss. What would you like to do?
00:02I want to defer, and I want to kick off every question. You go first every time, okay?
00:07Okay. You cool with that?
00:10Okay, sure.
00:11Every question? All right. All right, Melania. Let's go.
00:18How do I answer the questions as best I can?
00:20She wants to go second, so let's go.
00:22All right, thoughts on the first college football rankings.
00:27First of all, I'm happy Joe Paterno's in there. No, the first playoff rankings, I'm,
00:35look, these things are always going to be under scrutiny and for good reason, right?
00:39Because somebody gets left out, somebody gets put in there, you're not going to be happy about.
00:43It's fine because it's the first one. This is going to change radically throughout the year.
00:48Knowing that Alabama's in there with a two loss season so far, should I be surprised?
00:53Here's my surprised face that the SEC and Alabama, that they're in there.
00:58There was my surprised face. But what I'm a little disappointed in is that Army is so far
01:05down with their head. Army's at 25. They're undefeated. Now, again, Army hasn't played
01:08that schedule yet, but can we show some respect for the Armed Forces?
01:11Not that they deserved to be in the top 12, but they were so far out. Army has one really tough
01:18game left on the schedule and it's against Notre Dame. Notre Dame's at number 10. So if Army beats
01:27Notre Dame, does that mean Army is going to leapfrog and get all the way in there? No,
01:31it's like they have no shot and that's disappointing to me. I'm not real thrilled
01:35with the first projections, but again, it is going to change dramatically.
01:39I don't know if I've ever seen anything in sports that is a self-inflicted undermining
01:44of its own credibility than releasing these things midway through the season.
01:48Because you know what this is? To me, this is the equivalent of you're building a house,
01:53the foundation is poured, the framing is up, and you move in and you're complaining about
01:58leakages in a roof that isn't up yet. This is so dumb and I cannot stand people that know better
02:05complaining about the college football rankings before all the evidence is in. We all know this
02:12is a work in progress and I think smarter people, they should be smarter, shouldn't be
02:18bitching about this because all the evidence isn't in. And they shouldn't release these things
02:25because all it does is lead to criticism and bitching and the season's so far from over.
02:31And in the end, there'll probably be one or two teams that's controversial. Right now,
02:34everybody's complaining about everything and I think it is an unnecessary self-inflicted wound
02:40by doing this every week to try and drum up interest when all it does is drum up vitriol
02:45and complaining. Not tomato, tomato, Doug. I disagree. They have to do this every week
02:50because people talk about it. They want the vitriol and all that stuff and the point is
02:56to drum up interest. As long as we're talking about it, it's doing its job. Of course, it's
03:00ridiculous to complain about anything right now. As far as right now, I think they did get it right,
03:05but we all know this is going to change. I think SMU, Army may have cases, but they'll play it out
03:11and we'll figure it out at the end. It's so hard to get worked up for something like this right
03:14now, but I do want Army to eventually get in somehow in the end here. But like I said,
03:19it will play itself out. All right, Gator, is Georgia's quarterback, Carson Beck, supposed to
03:27be good? This is a great question. Is he supposed to be good? Yes, he's supposed to be great.
03:35Remember in the national championship game a couple of years ago, he was a freshman,
03:39true freshman, and I forget who Georgia was blowing out. Oh, wait a minute. And then they
03:44put, I don't forget that actually. And then they put, I don't even remember. Was it Michigan that
03:49they blew up? They didn't play Michigan national championship. They blew out Michigan in the game
03:53though, right? Yeah. I think it was one of those games. Anyway, Carson Beck gets in the game
03:58late and looks outstanding. They bring in the freshman running back. He comes in the game
04:03late and looks outstanding. Like the absolute epitome of reloading is what Georgia was about
04:08to do. And I'm expecting him to be, have this amazing career. And instead what he has done,
04:16he's kind of the college version of the professional version of Trevor Lawrence.
04:23Like Trevor Lawrence was great in college, was supposed to be great in the pros. And he hasn't
04:26been, he's just been average at best. Carson Beck's the same thing. He was supposed to be
04:31great, look great. And what is he? He's, he's okay. I mean, he's better than average for college,
04:37but he's not what I thought he was going to, I thought he was going to just own college football.
04:41And he is not. Football's hard and playing quarterback is hard. And the, the physical
04:46skills that mostly get people ranked, and this, this is out of high school and out of college,
04:52they are, they're easy to measure. They're easy to see. And they, they're intoxicating,
04:59but the parts of the game that you can't measure are your ability to process information quickly
05:05and act upon that information. The ability, how much hard do you have? How much work ethic,
05:09how much desire, how do you do under pressure? And I don't know how to, I don't know how those
05:13things get measured. And it's, I think it's easy to measure the physical skills. It's tough to
05:18measure all these other things that make up being a quarterback. And so, you know, he comes in with
05:23a five-star rating and he's supposed to be this, and he's supposed to be that, but we should never
05:27be surprised when a quarterback struggles because there's so much unknown, that's hard to measure.
05:33Yeah. I've been told by many people, he's supposed to be good guys. And I love the
05:36comp of Trevor Lawrence Gator as far as, you know, a professional version of Carson Beck.
05:41Maybe Carson Beck will be a good pro, but as a college quarterback, be honest with you,
05:46doesn't look that great to me. And the optics don't look that great either. When he's throwing
05:51all these picks the last few games, he looks kind of confused out there. Like what had happened
05:55that that wasn't supposed to happen? I'll say this for him. It's a good thing that George has
05:59got a good defense because right now I'm going to say he is not that good of a quarterback.
06:06All right. Can Indiana actually win the national championship Gator?
06:10No, they cannot. I don't think they can. I said it quickly and yet they they've been
06:16impressive what they've done. Look, their schedule has been nothing. They haven't played anybody on
06:20the schedule as of yet, but you play who's in front of you and you beat who's in front of you.
06:24And that's exactly what they've done. You know, looking at it, they haven't even been tested,
06:31not even close to being tested. And they're scoring over 40 points a game. They've been
06:35very dominant, but they play Michigan this week, given it's not your typical Michigan team.
06:40We've seen the last several years, but it's still going to mean something for them to beat Michigan.
06:46Will they drublet Michigan like they did Michigan state? Probably not. And that was a 47 to 10
06:50thumping Michigan state took. But what Indiana did in that game was score the last 47 points
06:55of the game. I think we'll find out a lot about them this week, but even more so next week when
07:01they take on Ohio state. But I just don't think that they're good enough. I think they're good,
07:04not great. I think they got to buy next week and then Ohio state. You're right.
07:09No, I don't think they can either. And I don't know how you can make a case that they can
07:13based upon their schedule. What would Michigan and Michigan state be? What would their records
07:17be with that schedule? It'd be a lot better than they were. What would Indiana's record be with
07:20Michigan and Michigan state schedule? That's what we don't know. And so, yeah, they might be better
07:27than that. They might sweep the in-state teams, but I can't see them. Well, you can't see anything
07:32right now. That's a great point. Yeah. You need a cigar and like offering gambling advice. You
07:37look like a bookie from a movie in the sixties. Jenny Mays, Rothstein, continue.
07:45Yeah. Of course, Indiana cannot win national championship. Even Doug can see that. I mean,
07:48I feel like this is like when Cincinnati made the playoff a few years ago and they got killed
07:53by Alabama. Once you play a real team, yeah, it's going to show up real quick that Doug,
07:58football is hard against really good opponents. It's even harder. And I love the story. You know,
08:03I love these stories every year. If it's a team that you don't expect to come out of nowhere, but
08:08you know, Cinderella stories are far and few between to actually become the princess. And
08:12I don't think it's going to happen this year for Indiana. Sorry.
08:17Does any part of you actually feel bad for Penn state head coach, James Franklin,
08:21who is now three and 17 against top 10 teams Gator? Nope. Not even a little.
08:26I don't like James Franklin at all. I think he's all about himself. He keeps shooting himself on
08:32the foot. When you feel like maybe you're going to take a step in that direction. He does something
08:36like run away from a press conference because somebody has the temerity to ask a question
08:39about former players get in, in shouting matches with, with the fans as he's walking away from the
08:46stadium. He just, he's so easy not to like, so no, I don't feel bad for him even a little.
08:53He's a self, these self-inflicted wounds. He's self-important. They, but the reality is Penn
09:00state probably can't do better than him without taking an immediate step back. He's a good coach.
09:04He's not a great coach. He's a good coach. I feel bad for Penn state fans.
09:12Um, and you know, his record is one thing, but as you mentioned the, the press conference where
09:18he wouldn't answer the question, just walked away and let his PR guy say something was so ridiculous
09:24because all he had to do was say, guys, I really can't talk about it. It's an ongoing legal
09:28investigation and we support, you know, the victim in this case, whatever, whatever you need to say
09:33something, a PR person could have wrote for him, but by walking away, he turned it into a national
09:38story, yelling at fans, brings more attention to him and how the pressure is getting to him.
09:45I kind of wonder if we're going to get a chip Kelly situation where James Franklin just says,
09:49you know what? Um, I'll go somewhere else. Maybe everybody would be happier for it. There
09:54seems to be more of that and can more of that into consideration. Um, cause his record's great.
10:00It's just not great in those games and it's, uh, you know, but I don't feel bad for him.
10:06Do I feel bad for James Franklin? Can Doug see out of his right eye? No, of course not.
10:11$75 million this man's making. If you ever for a split second feel bad for him,
10:16just think of that contract he has. He'll be just fine. And yeah, he's unlikable anyways.
10:25All right. Who's a coach or player that you honestly had never heard of
10:29that has impressed you this year? The most I'm going to go with everyone in the top 10
10:34of college football rushing with the exception of Ashton Gente, the number one guy. Let me know if
10:39you've heard these names prior to this year. A Caleb Williams is from Iowa. We know about him
10:44because you know, we've seen him play against Michigan state and he's had a hell of a season
10:48this year. But prior to this year, I don't think anybody heard him because he averaged four yards
10:51of carry was kind of nondescript. You know, RJ Harvey is how about a Marion Hampton, uh,
10:58Maki Hughes, Taj Brooks, uh, cam scat bell, uh, uh, skit tabo. How about DJ Giddens or Dylan
11:07Sampson or Bryce shul tootin? Those are the rest of the top 10 leading rushers in college football.
11:14No, none of them. I got Bryce Betcher, the middle linebacker from Oregon,
11:20and he's a good football player. He is also a 13th round draft pick of the Houston Astros and
11:26won a college gold glove playing center field. He's a center fielder, middle linebacker. He's a
11:34walk on and he is in the middle of the top rank team in the country's outstanding defense. And
11:42he's a center fielder and one of the best in the country as a walk on. I'm blown away at this kid's
11:48physical skills. Someone's on emptying the bucket. Yeah, that's a great answer by Jackie. Oh, all
11:52right. Listen, guys, I've got captain America. That's right. Bryson Daly, the quarterback of
11:57army. He's questionable this week, but I'm a big fan of this army story. I told you in the first
12:02questions with the college football rankings, I hope army gets in there outside looking in right
12:06now, but it'd be awesome. He's got to get healthy for Notre Dame. The rest of the America saw
12:10captain America. Bryson Daly is the guy who's impressed me this year. All right. Florida
12:19state is one in eight after going 12 and 0 last year in the regular season. Can you think of any
12:25bigger collapse in sports or entertainment or anything that compares to this fall? I mean,
12:29we just saw it in baseball, Minnesota. The twins were 70 and 53, 17 games above 500 and they
12:36finished up 82 and 80, just 12 and 27 down the stretch, missed the playoffs to the tiger's
12:44benefit. Um, that story was unbelievable, but the Florida state, what they've done,
12:49I think it's trumped it. It's even trauma. The twins are the closest I can come to it.
12:54How about David Duvall? Yeah, but that was a physical issue. Yeah. I, I, I, I got nothing.
13:01I think this is the whole time. It's like you right now with the eyes. I know it's not fair.
13:05Bigger fall from grace. Doug's right eye compared to his left eye. I hope it bounces back.
13:10Got a chump vertigo. All right. Uh, I've got tiger woods. Perfect reputation. All right. After
13:17that, I mean, after what happened in Florida, what was the Thanksgiving or Christmas with his
13:21wife and the escalate and the golf clubs, he had a pristine reputation. Like I'm talking Disney,
13:27right? Perfect. Tiger woods could do no wrong. Then he went NWO tiger woods after that. And he's
13:32still popular. Don't get me wrong, but it's a different tiger woods than we had before that.
13:35So as far as, you know, a bigger fall from at least his reputation at the time, I'll go with
13:39tiger woods when that, that whole thing went down. And that concludes the college football
13:45blitz thingy. All right. This is going to be a challenge.
