Extreme heat and fire danger in the east.
Transcript
00:00Hello from the Bureau, this is the National Weather Forecast with a focus on tomorrow,
00:04which is Thursday the 7th of November, and the heat we've been talking around across
00:09the country is going to continue for parts of Queensland and New South Wales on Thursday,
00:13generally much cooler across the rest of southern Australia, still warm in the north.
00:18We also have a couple of weather features rolling through, bringing showers and storms
00:22to parts of the south and east of the country.
00:25Another hot day for Queensland, clear and sunny statewide at first, with high fire danger
00:30for many areas.
00:32We will see the risk of showers and storms move into the southwest around Birdsville,
00:35perhaps about lunchtime, and then across the course of the afternoon, move across southern
00:40areas through the Maranoa and Warrago, through the Darling Downs, maybe getting to western
00:44parts of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
00:47Anyone in Bundaberg, or further north than that, should see conditions stay clear, sunny
00:51and warm.
00:53A weather feature crossing New South Wales on Thursday will bring the risk of showers
00:56and storms to almost all areas, starting off in the west.
01:00That means the morning in the east is getting windy and very, very warm, temperatures up
01:04into the high 30s around Maitland, mid 30s for Newcastle, high fire danger, possibly
01:09tending to extreme fire danger around parts of the northern slopes.
01:14As we get into Thursday afternoon, the risk of showers and storms spreads across the eastern
01:18half of New South Wales, and that includes coastal spots like Sydney, Newcastle and
01:22Wollongong.
01:23There is even a chance of severe thunderstorms from the Hunter area up to the Northern Rivers
01:28area, with damaging wind, large hail and heavy rain, all a risk at this stage.
01:34A cool morning and often cloudy across Victoria, a possible spot of drizzle here and there
01:38through the morning as well, but most places will see temperatures climb into the 20s.
01:43In the afternoon we'll see a band of showers move in from the west, hitting those western
01:47districts first, and then crossing central and eastern places late afternoon or in the
01:51evening.
01:52Not a lot of rain, 2-5mm for some in the west, just a spotty millimetre here or there for
01:57other places.
01:58A fairly benign, settled day across Tasmania, certainly cooler than what it was on Wednesday,
02:04partly cloudy skies through the morning as well.
02:06One or two afternoon showers here or there through the second half of the day, very hit
02:10and miss, a lot of people won't notice them, and any showers that do fall, probably less
02:14than a millimetre of rain, so not having a big impact aside from maybe being a slight
02:19annoyance if it lands on your washing line.
02:22Across South Australia we'll see a cold front, bring some showers between the Eyre Peninsula
02:27and Mount Gambier through the morning or early afternoon.
02:29That will push through and clear to become sunny once again, perhaps 2-5mm as that rolls
02:35through.
02:36A shower or storm possible in the north east of the state, it's much cooler but still clear
02:40out to the west.
02:42And below average temperatures continue for the southern half of Western Australia, 2-4
02:46degrees below what's usual for this time of year, partly cloudy skies for some as well,
02:51a high of 22 in Perth.
02:53Sunny and much warmer further north, particularly around the Pilbara, where some spots will
02:57reach 40 degrees.
02:59Afternoon showers and storms bubble up around the Kimberley and we'll see that line stretch
03:03across central Australia, maybe impacting parts of southern NT through the second half
03:08of the day as well.
03:09Further north, hot temperatures continue around here, there might be a little bit of
03:12relief from the heat due to an afternoon shower or storm around the Top End Coast or the Tiwi
03:18Islands.
03:20And as usual for this time of year, quite a lot of weather happening around the country,
03:23that's what we see during spring, so to make sure you know your detail, head to your local
03:27forecast on the Bureau website and app.
03:29Thanks for watching and have a great day.
