#NFL Hall of Famer Ty Law joins! Ty Tuesday! Does Law think the Chiefs can go undefeated? Will teams figure KC out soon?
Transcript
00:00And to Juan Edward Law on this show, brought to you by Corvus Vodka, the official vodka of the
00:06Pro Football Hall of Fame. And by 110 Grill, gluten-free dining done right. How are you?
00:12I'm not good right now, Greg, man. I got to be honest with you, man. I'm not doing too...
00:16I'm a little nervous. What's the matter? I got to have a root canal after the show. So,
00:20you know, I'm fresh off of a plane, off of a red eye. I came straight to the studio to be with
00:24you guys, but I'm nervous as all hell, man. I got to tell you, I have an irrational fear.
00:28I don't have many irrational fears. Mimes on the list, certainly. And I have an irrational fear
00:38of dentists. I cannot. I cannot. I'm terrified. You know what? That's the worst pain. Are you
00:45the same way? Yeah. I mean, I would rather run into a 300-pound man, you know, head-on,
00:53full speed, and take that hit, the possible concussion, than go to the dentist.
00:57You know what I mean? Do they put you out for a root canal, though?
01:00No, they just... Numb it up and stuff?
01:03Oh, yeah. No, you got to... I'm a little wuss when it comes to that. You know what I mean? Hey,
01:07give me some of that laughing gas, doc. You know what I mean? Give me something.
01:10Something strong. Something strong.
01:13Well, Ty does... He does the numbing himself, and that's why Raymond's here.
01:18All right. Yeah. Raymond got the medication. He got a good medicine.
01:25Raymond has the good stuff. Good luck with that one.
01:28Yeah, good luck. How long do they say you're down for? I think I need a root canal. That's
01:33my problem, is I think I have a molar that is loose, and I think it's because I need a root
01:37canal, and I'm afraid to go get it done. I got to find a good... If there's a good dentist that
01:41listens, give me a shout-out. Hey, Dr. Peters is good. I mean,
01:47he's a Michigan alum, you know what I mean? So I feel safe in that aspect. So,
01:50shout-out to Dr.- He's in Boston?
01:52Yeah, he's a doctor. I mean, he does a lot of big dogs. I didn't know he did craft and-
01:56Oh, okay. Does it bother you when you eat cold food or hot food and stuff like that?
02:01Yeah, yeah, yeah, it does. It gets a little sensitive. That's when you notice the nerve,
02:03but I had a root canal before on the other side, and it does feel a lot better. And you
02:09don't even need the molars, though. I'm not a dentist, but they say you don't need those back
02:12teeth, you know what I mean? So, but get it out.
02:15Does he do Van Ness, Dr. Peterson? Because I feel like a lot of people are doing that.
02:20Yeah, but you see how... You didn't know how much them teeth cost when he put them in his mouth?
02:24And they shave-
02:25It's like 50 grand.
02:26They shave your actual teeth down into like fangs. So once they're in, you can't go back.
02:29Oh, yeah. I mean, it's like, I mean, you got a nice smile, but man, $50,000?
02:34It's the NFL insurance.
02:35I'm just going to go brush my teeth.
02:36You should have him throw a Corvus grill in.
02:39Oh, yeah. You know what? I might give me a grill, but you can take them out, though. Like you said,
02:42those is permanent. I'm going to give me a little crow right there.
02:46Just like a C for Corvus.
02:47Yeah, there you go.
02:48All right. Well, listen, mid-season. And so we'll get your thoughts on a lot of things.
02:57Obviously... Actually, let's start with last night. Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated,
03:02winning overtime. It's possible this team goes undefeated the whole season from your perspective?
03:08It's still a long way to go, and people are going to figure it out.
03:11Figure them out, because who would have thought that Tampa Bay would have been in the game that
03:15long, you know what I mean? Without their main guys like Mike Evans. So, you know, shout out to
03:21Baker Mayfield, man. He's playing some pretty decent ball and to hang in there and almost have
03:26a chance to win. But going undefeated, I still say it's, you know, it's 50-50, but I mean,
03:34it's not likely to happen because at some point, if you already got to buy, depending on who you're
03:38playing at the end, don't risk, you know, Patrick Mahone being out there just to get a perfect
03:44season. I don't think that it's worth it. I mean, the goal for those guys is to get the three-peat,
03:49you know what I mean? Something that's never been done in the NFL. So I think that's more
03:54important. So going undefeated, I think it's highly unlikely because at the end, if you got to
03:58buy, why play your starters? Well, two weeks there at Buffalo. So looking at their schedule
04:03at Buffalo is definitely a tough one. And then maybe the second to last game at Pittsburgh.
04:10So if you at Pittsburgh, yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be. So those, I would say those,
04:14they got the Texans, but that's at home. So I would say that, you know, at Pittsburgh and at
04:19Buffalo in two weeks will be the hardest on their schedule. And I think they're going to want to
04:24play because those are possibly the teams that they're going to see in the playoffs too. So,
04:29you know, Buffalo is definitely going to come out there and try to wear,
04:31have some proof because they're, they're a Superbowl contending team from what it looks
04:35like right now, you know, and they're adding some weapons, but they're in Kansas city is making
04:39moves. You're going to get Hopkins. Curtis, did you, did you pick the bills the other day?
04:44Curtis allow. Oh, tap him, wake him up. Curtis, did you pick the bills? I'm thinking of Boomer
04:51almost got it. I did not have the bills. I think the bills are going to be in the Superbowl though.
04:55I think Bill's lines is my Superbowl. I was asking that if you were, if you picked out the
04:59other, yes, I'm sorry. I was previewing audio. Yes, I absolutely did. And I think that the,
05:03but I do believe that the lions, they just got the Darius Smith in a trade this morning.
05:08Yeah. The rusher. I think the lions are the best team in football. I think they're better
05:13than the chiefs. Like I, I don't know. They lost Aiden Hutchinson and they haven't skipped a beat.
05:18They just replaced him and there was a chance they get him back. He might be back for the
05:20Superbowl. Michigan guy, Kyle. I ain't betting against Patrick Mahomes until somebody knocks
05:26him out. That seems like the Brady he's in the Brady world. Now you don't bet against my homes
05:30until somebody's proven that they can beat them. Right. I ain't been against them in one game.
05:35Yeah. Yeah. The Steelers though. They've been playing pretty well. So
05:39you're Pittsburgh guy. Oh, I ain't buying this. I know, but you're from the area.
05:44I'm from the area, but I am a huge, huge Mike Tomlin fan. You know what I mean? Those that's
05:50the type of guy, you know, met him before, but everyone that played, you know, for him loves to
05:56play for him. You know what I mean? He's, he's one of those type of guys. He's going to hold
05:59you accountable. He has the utmost respect for his, for his player from, from his players and
06:04for his players. So that's somebody that is like, you know what, if you can play for any coach
06:09outside of the greatest who had the opportunity to play, you know, with Bill Parcells, coach
06:13Belichick, the greatest of all time, I would love to play for Mike Tomlin. Speaking of coaching
06:18midway through the season, what grade do you give Gerard Mayo? I mean, for what he's working with,
06:24I give him, I give him a C, C plus. I mean, because we haven't got to see the true potential
06:33right. Because he doesn't have a lot of talent that he's working with. You know what I mean?
06:36So, like I said, you can stick Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, you put them on this team,
06:42you might get a couple more wins, but you still ain't going to Superbowl. You still ain't going
06:46to beat none of the better teams. So that's why I try to convey to people that don't get it twisted.
06:51He don't have a talent. Right. You had Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. Yep. With this team right now
06:56and the rest of this roster. Yeah. You would only get a couple more wins. Is it? Yeah. I mean,
07:00I think you, I think you were rich. Okay.
07:05Are you sure they didn't give you the medication before you got here? No. Oh, you said Tom and
07:11Bill. If you gave Tom and Bill, they going to Superbowl. No, no. I didn't say they going to
07:15Superbowl, but they, they probably sitting here at six and three. You still need your receivers
07:20to catch. You damn right. Yeah. But I'm not, I'm not saying they're going to be like this. I'm
07:24saying you get a couple more wins and still me. And I'm thinking he'll get to 500. No, no. See,
07:29I think they're a playoff team with Tom and Bill. Look at what the Patriots did in oh six with
07:34Jabbar Gaffney and Rasheed Caldwell. They were basically three minutes away from the Superbowl,
07:40a game they would have beaten Rex Grossman in. You gotta, you gotta consider the defense too.
07:43I'm talking about across the board as a team. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He's definitely going to be
07:47an upgrade from a coach and that's two positions, quarterback and the coach. What about everything
07:52else? That's not going to make your offensive line, you know, block any better. That's not
07:56going to make your defense tackle any better. That's not going to make you stop giving up those
08:00chunk yardage. I think they gave up something better though. Defensively. If Tom and Billy here,
08:06they're a playoff team. They're not going into Superbowl. I'll agree with you on that,
08:09but they're a team with the standard is the Superbowl is to compete, to go to a Superbowl.
08:15What nobody's saying, they are not going to compete for a Superbowl with the roster that's
08:19constructed. No matter if you had Tom Brady or Bill Belichick. Don't you think whether right
08:25or wrong Gerard Mayo gets a little bit of a pass this season when it comes to the significant
08:31injuries on the, on the, on the defense side, like, you know, Dennis Allen is done. Right. So
08:38I don't think, and odds were better that, that, that Gerard Mayo would be fired. Then Dennis Allen
08:44would be fired. Like, do you, do you know, I think he survives this year. Oh yeah. He's like every
08:50first year. Isn't the guy in Carolina, isn't he a first year head coach? What's his name?
08:55Yeah. Canal. It's like, I feel like a Dan Campbell was his team stunk his first year,
09:00every first year coach gets a pass, especially when the organization and the owner handpicked
09:08that guy. So I don't, we didn't do great when Bill Belichick's first year was five and 11.
09:14That's what I'm saying. We didn't do great. So, I mean, did he stink? Yeah. Yeah. He's done the
09:20first year. Okay. But guess what? Now no one thinks about that. You know what I mean? So
09:24that's just a, I mean, that's just the nature of the game. And when you got a young quarterback,
09:28you got a young head coach, you're going to go through those growing pains. And at the end of
09:32the day, Gerard, give him some talent before we judge him on his coaching ability, because he
09:37doesn't have the best product out there right now. I think he's doing okay for what it's worth.
09:42Would have liked to see him go for two though and, and try to win that football game.
09:48Yeah. I mean, at this point, why not? You know what, you know what was pissing me off though,
09:52guys, is when people say, okay, tank, you know, as a competitor, you don't go out there and try
09:58to tank to get the first pick, because even if you get the first pick, you already got your
10:01quarterback who was going to be actually there, but you're asking guys to tank, to get somebody
10:07that's unknown in the draft. When you're getting college guys, we don't know if they're going to
10:12be good in the pro. No, but I want them to lose so they can have the first pick. I ain't saying
10:15don't do it. What I'm doing with it is I'm using it to trade down, pick up some more assets,
10:21maybe trade. I know it's sky in the pie and I've been saying, and I'll keep eating this, this,
10:28this, this, uh, uh, pie in the sky. You know what I'm saying? Your sky's the limit. Like Biggie
10:34said, I want to trade for a guy like Jamar chase. And if I have multiple first round draft picks,
10:39maybe that'll allow me to do that. So, and if I have the number one overall pick by trading down,
10:45maybe I'm able to pick up an extra first round pick that allows me to put a package together
10:50to get one of those plays. Cause I do agree with you. There is no sure thing when it comes to
10:57wide receiver in this year's draft. Like there's no like guy like Marvin Harris junior
11:02that you go like, all right. Or even like a Malik neighbors that you go, this is the guy.
11:06So I want it so I could pick up more assets to potentially trade for, you know, another guy who
11:12I'd be interested in calling is Debo Samuel. I feel like with them signed the sign of Brandon
11:18he was already a little bit, you know, frustrated with the contract wants a new one. So, I mean,
11:23like, these are things that I would be thinking about. I think Debo Samuel is a, is a, is a great
11:28player. He can do multiple things, but it depends on how you use them. Is this the type of office
11:33that are going to use Debo Samuel? How you use Debo Samuel? Cause if you put him out there,
11:37one-on-one against the top corner, I mean, is he going to consistently beat him? They move
11:41Debo around. He's a big bruiser guy. I know from a defensive back standpoint, I would never look at
11:46him and say as great as a player as he is, I'm not going to sit there. Like I'm nervous about
11:51that. I know he's going to get, now it's going to beat me deep and get behind me and, you know,
11:55get for the big play. That's not going to happen with them. So I'm thinking about a receiver,
12:00somebody that's going to be a real game changer like that. And you don't have to scheme around.
12:04Well, that's why I said Jamar chase originally. And I don't know if Cincinnati, if I was able to
12:09pick up an extra first round pick, because I had the number one overall pick. And I said to
12:14Cincinnati, I'm going to give you two first round picks, two second round picks for Jamar
12:19chase. Is that something that they would be interested in? They need a line. So I know it's
12:23usually a, if you're not getting a quarterback, a left tackle. So I don't know who's coming out in
12:29the draft, but they need somebody on the officer line to protect Drake may, of course, he's going
12:34to make some bonehead rookie mistakes, but I like him, you know, thus far, I was going to say,
12:40what do you think so far? I mean, so far he's doing all right. And then he can use his leg.
12:44I didn't know he can run like that. You know what I mean? He has some passes like, Oh,
12:48that was a nice pass right there. You know what I mean? So I think he has the confidence
12:52to go play, but at the same time, he's still developing. He's still learning. And that's
12:56why maybe draw didn't want to put him in, in the beginning because he knew was
12:59offensive line. Wasn't very good. So, you know, he started getting gunshots. So he waited a little
13:04bit. Now there's no pressure, man. There's no Joe. There's no Joe Alts in college,
13:10even with the O-line position. That's another piece. There's like, not like this,
13:13you know, you talk, talked about Joe all last year with Notre Dame. Like there was this
13:18shy man. I was talking about the kid from LSU, but his past couple of games,
13:21he hasn't played that well. There's not that sure. And Kelvin banks at Texas.
13:25Yeah. It's not that like that to the Kelvin banks. And that's why I think that you want
13:31to know Orlando pace. And then I have a question for you. You know, I'm better than anybody you
13:38coached by him for 15 years. Do you think Belichick will come out and join,
13:44come out of retirement and be the coach of the Cowboys next season?
13:49You know what? I think there's a good possibility because hell I'm going to ask him,
13:53I'm going to be with Belichick on Saturday. So yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. We do cheerleader contest.
13:59We're doing something down in, in, in new Orleans, you know, for the Superbowl. So
14:03are you getting Texas for the wedding? Huh? Are you getting married? Yeah.
14:07No, you're not. Don't tell me you bullshit. Come on. Did I catch you? I'm not. I got it.
14:15Don't worry. I didn't want you to be guessing. That's the rumor. That's the rumor. You never
14:19had a shopping for engagement. Well, you know what? I'm going to take me some Corvus down there.
14:23I'm going to get a little tizzy. So I'm going to, I'm going to bring the scoop back, but I'll be
14:27with Belichick on Saturday. What are you guys doing? We doing something on the Madden bus for
14:31Superbowl. Something about, you know, his, his doing all this. Yeah. I don't know that he's
14:35going to come back and get loving it Saturday. You think he still wants to coach? I think he's
14:41still going to coach. I mean, he's so close to the record that we get to see his personality,
14:47but I think deep down bill is still a, a, a coach. And if the right opportunity comes,
14:52you know, I think the competitiveness in him is gonna want to go back and coach.
14:56Cause that's his, that's his comfort zone. We're seeing this personality on TV. You guys
15:00get to see it, but it's just something that we seen as players when the cameras is not on,
15:04right. When the cameras is on, that's when he, you know, he buttoned up and ain't going to get
15:08you none, but when the camera's off bill, he's having a good time, you know, talking trash,
15:13drinking, whatever the hell else you want to do. Uh, trade deadline today, four o'clock, uh,
15:18anybody other than Drake may on this team that you, that you don't listen to. Um, I mean,
15:23Christian Gonzalez or no, you don't want to give up. Okay. So, so you get too much outside.
15:29Those are, those are the only thing that's worth to somebody else. So right now it was like,
15:34can you trade Duggar would be worth it to somebody else? Yeah. I mean, yeah, yeah. He,
15:38he will be work. I think what are you going to get for Duggar fifth round? Exactly. Hey,
15:42and the Gonzalez in may are the only two players on new England that are off, off limits. You want
15:48anybody else feel free because what are you getting in return? Even with Duggar, what are
15:52you going to get a fifth round pick for him? A fourth round pick if you're lucky. I mean,
15:58everything, everything is for sale. You know what I mean? So if you want to come up and give up two
16:02first round draft picks for, you know, goes out or something like that, they might consider that,
16:06you know what I mean? But those are the only two guys that you see is like, you can build
16:11towards the future with those. Oh yeah. Everybody else is expendable, but if the right price come,
16:16you know, they'll probably do that too. This, I mean, it's business at the end of the day.
16:19Gonzalez is good, but I don't know if the two first round is coming in.
16:25You have to consider that, but I think he has a so much upside, you know what I mean? And
16:29you know, I like him. I like him. Uh, we're going to take a break.
