00:00In the face of inevitable calamities such as the tsunami,
00:03the Department of Science and Technology reminded
00:06what needs to be done to reduce the effects of the tsunami.
00:09John Lasser-Naguna of the Philippine Information Agency has news for the country.
00:17According to the DOSDF Vox,
00:18the most frequent tsunami in the history of the country
00:22killed more than 8,000 people
00:26and left 1,000 people missing.
00:28The biggest impact on us
00:34was the one that happened in 1976 in Morobo area.
00:38Tsunamis are usually caused by earthquakes under the sea,
00:41but it can also come from landslides or volcanic eruptions.
00:45According to the DOSDF Vox,
00:47all coastal areas in the Philippines can be affected by tsunamis.
00:51Locally generated tsunamis can reach within a few minutes,
00:55so it's important to know the natural signs.
00:58According to the study,
01:00it can reach a height of 3.5 to 5.5 meters.
01:06Like the drop, cover, and hold when there is an earthquake,
01:08tsunamis also have similar signs to be prepared.
01:11This is the shake, drop, and roar.
01:13If you experience a strong earthquake,
01:16suddenly the sea level goes down
01:18or the roaring sound of the approaching waves
01:20immediately move to a higher place
01:22and avoid the waves and water.
01:25Remember, tsunamis can't be avoided,
01:28but their effects can be reduced
01:30by preparing for comfort,
01:33timely warning, and proper action.
01:35The DOSDF Vox supports tsunami drills
01:38and urges everyone to participate in the national tsunami and earthquake awareness day
01:43as part of the World Tsunami Awareness Day observance
01:46every November 5.
01:48We need to raise the awareness of people
01:52since we believe that if we raise the awareness of people,
01:56it will lead to people being prepared for the future.
02:01We will have a so-called tsunami run.
02:05Its purpose is to raise or this is an advocacy
02:10to raise people's awareness about the tsunami.
02:15From PANCR, I'm Jel Nester Laguna for Malitang Kamalisan.
