Matt Maher gives his take on Villa's defeat at Spurs.
Transcript
00:00Good evening from North London where it's been a pretty unhappy 53rd birthday for Unai Emery. Tottenham 4, Villa 1, date of forget really for Emery's team.
00:16Their heaviest defeat in games that actually matter since losing 4-0 to Tottenham at Villa Park back in March.
00:24It was an afternoon that started well. Villa went in front through Morgan Rodgers after 32 minutes.
00:30Had a chance to double lead before half time through Ollie Watkins. Chance wasn't taken and that proved significant as Spurs equalised within 4 minutes of the second half started through Brennan Johnson.
00:43The game was in the balance, you wondered which way it was going to go. Dominic Solanke scored to put Spurs 2-1 up with 15 minutes remaining and then the hosts ran away with it.
00:53Solanke scored again 5 minutes later and then James Madison rubbed further salt in Villa's wounds with a fantastic stoppage time free kick.
01:04Just Villa's second Premier League defeat of the season. No reason to panic but also in terms of going forward it is a setback and one that makes you wonder about their top four credentials or ask a few questions shall we say.
01:23Still just the one clean sheet this season. They have been too easy to score against and they were too easy to score against today.
01:33Also going forward in the final third too often picking the wrong option and not taking chances.
01:41There are a few themes that have been evident through the season so far which haven't resulted in poor results but did result in a poor result today.
01:50Unai Emery pretty philosophical after the game. It is just the second Premier League defeat but a disappointing one.
01:58They missed opportunity as Villa would have been able to pull eight points clear of Tottenham admittedly at an early stage of the season.
02:05But now they are kind of back down fifth, possibly sixth depending on how the results go and what is a particularly congested table at the moment.
