00:00On the effects of the Super Typhoon Leon and the preparations of the PCG,
00:05we will now hear from Commodore Aljir Ricafrente,
00:10the spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard.
00:13Commodore, good afternoon.
00:15Good afternoon, Mr. Asec and Director Sherry.
00:20Good afternoon to all of you as well.
00:22Sir, Leon is in the Super Typhoon category.
00:26What assistance is the PCG distributing to our travellers
00:32especially to the areas that were severely affected by the Super Typhoon Leon?
00:38To those of us who have received a Typhoon Warning Signal,
00:42our travel there is still suspended,
00:46especially in the Batanes area.
00:48And to our travellers,
00:51we know that we have a lot of countrymen who want to experience this typhoon.
00:57We will continue to provide services to them
01:02so that they can travel safely and safely.
01:05Sir, how is your response to stranded passengers?
01:11Are there any already?
01:12And what are the locations of these passengers?
01:15We have stranded passengers.
01:20Even though there are a few, we did not cancel them.
01:23According to our record, based on the report that we received,
01:27around 50 of our stranded passengers are in Southern Tagalog,
01:35particularly in the Rial area,
01:39in Wawa port, in Balanacan.
01:42We also have stranded passengers in Bicol area,
01:45particularly in Biracatan 1, San Pascual port, and Pasacau.
01:51We also have stranded passengers in small boats
01:55because the waves are still high.
01:58And we can see that our boats are still unable to travel to these areas.
02:06Sir, you mentioned those areas.
02:10What assistance does the PCG need?
02:15Especially since Typhoon Leon has already been experienced.
02:19You mentioned protecting our fishermen.
02:24But what will be the focus of the PCG now that Typhoon Leon has already passed?
02:31In collaboration with the local government unit,
02:35we are always calling on them to take care of our countrymen,
02:41especially the small fishermen,
02:44to not go abroad because we still have people living in our area of responsibility.
02:52And in the places where we have stranded passengers,
02:56we are also in contact with other agencies of emergency concern in the port
03:01that are providing assistance.
03:03If the travel to those places is delayed,
03:08we are helping to provide them with food.
03:14In fact, as part of the directive of our Department of Transportation,
03:22as a part of the transportation sector,
03:26we have set up help desks in our ports,
03:31especially in the places where the travel is not suspended,
03:35so that this will serve as an immediate response of our government
03:42to our travelers who have concerns,
03:45whether it is medical or in their travel schedule.
03:53Sir, in other talks, is the PCG on high-tend alert now?
03:59What are your steps to ensure the safety of our seaports this long weekend holiday?
04:07That's right. Since October 29, we have been on high-tend alert
04:13because of the expected increase in the number of passengers.
04:17Our operational unit has also increased
04:21to ensure the security of our countrymen and travelers.
04:26The security is important.
04:28We are helping the port authority to arrange the passage of passengers and ships.
04:34Our Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary is also helping us during this time.
04:42When it comes to the security of our countrymen and travelers,
04:46they may encounter inconveniences in our K-9 units
04:52that require their equipment to be sniffed
04:56to ensure that there are no drunksmen or mobs.
05:02Commodore, you mentioned the augmentation.
05:06How many are our total deployments?
05:08Of course, our services were divided because there were two typhoons and waves.
05:14So, how do we divide our key areas?
05:20For us, our people are in place in each area, in each pier.
05:26The relief operation effort that we are augmenting,
05:32most of them are in place.
05:34That is what is best for their work.
05:38And for our relief operations,
05:40most of the relief goods are from other parts of the country
05:46and most of the relief goods are through our ships.
05:50They are the ones who deliver it.
05:52With the help of the local government,
05:54it is delivered to the warehouses and to our countrymen.
05:58In terms of our services, as I said earlier,
06:02our people are in place.
06:04We are just adding our operational units that are concerned,
06:08like our K-9 units, our special operations groups,
06:12and the medical teams that we are augmenting.
06:16Sir, do you have a message or a reminder for our countrymen who are affected by the typhoon?
06:21We will remind them.
06:23We will not get tired of reminding them
06:25to remain vigilant in the events of our disaster,
06:28especially in places where the weather is getting worse.
06:32And even in their travel,
06:34I hope they will not bring large items
06:38and the prohibited items that we do not allow them to ride on boats
06:44so that they will not be affected by their travel.
06:49All right.
06:50Thank you very much, Oras Commodore Algier Ricafrente,
06:54the spokesperson of the Philippine Coast Guard.
