00:00Yes, I will be in Mexico this November, second week, to support our own Chelsea, but also
00:16to serve as a commentator, as a rapper, but I'm very grateful to the trust of the MEO
00:27organization for once again inviting me back for the third year in a row.
00:31You'll still do the same actor duties, right, on the side?
00:34Yes.
00:35This is your third time, correct?
00:37Yes, third year, so it's really different from experiencing it as an audience member
00:44just watching at home, the past years, and then being a candidate, and then being a farewell,
00:49like giving my farewell and passing over my title, and then being there on the far end
00:55of my back, behind the scenes, as a commentator, and watching the action unfold, it's different.
01:01Because even as a commentator, we can see your facial reaction, when you're about to
01:06enter the abilities, when you're about to enter the abilities.
01:09That won't happen this year!
01:11I have really high hopes for Chelsea, that she'll really make us proud.
01:15I was about to ask you, what are your thoughts on Chelsea's chances?
01:19I'm really excited about her, I think she brings a fresh breath of air into the competition,
01:24and I know she's had an ample amount of time to prepare, so I'm really excited, just as
01:29all the other Filipinos are, to see how she will really make us proud, every single day,
01:33from day one to the coronation itself.
01:36You just said that you'll be in this universe again?
01:39Yes!
01:40I'm very, very, very grateful to be invited back for the third year.
01:44That's a really big thing for me, because in a way, it really gives me confidence about
01:48my hosting on an international level, and I really do enjoy it, really.
01:53There's a certain level of spontaneity in an event such as Miss Universe, of course
01:57everything's happening blow-by-blow, you don't know who's going to enter, or what's going
02:02to happen next.
02:03Of course, if it's different hosting countries, then the first two years, one was in El Salvador,
02:08the next one was in New Orleans, and now it's in Mexico.
02:11It's that big, right?
02:12I know!
02:13It's crazy!
02:14So, every different country gives a different energy, and a different audience, and I love
02:18being a part of that, because, again, it gives me that well-rounded perspective.
02:22Like, I was a girl up there on that stage, I know how they're feeling, but to be within
02:26the crowd, and to feel the energy, it's electric.
02:29It's really the love of pageantry that is really ignited all over again.
02:33Still with Zuri?
02:34I'm not sure, actually.
02:35I'm hoping!
02:36I really love our tandem, I enjoy working with her so much, she's great, so I hope to
02:40see her there.
02:41But the question I asked earlier, it's like I can see your reaction when Philippines
02:44doesn't enter, when Philippines enters, the fans are noticing.
02:47I know!
02:49But I try my best because, as I said, I understand the weight that a Philippine sash has on a
02:56candidate, I understand the pressure.
02:58I also, as a candidate myself, once upon a time, I understand the sacrifice, the challenges,
03:02the hard work that goes into being on that stage.
03:05So, of course, it's impossible for me not to relate to a Miss Philippines and their
03:10journey.
03:11So, of course, I'm always rooting for them.
03:13Maybe it's just my emotions that are not being monitored.
03:16Will you get adopted?
03:19I hope so.
03:20I mean, Chelsea, she's great.
03:21I feel like, as I said, I think she gives a fresh new air to a Miss Philippines and she's
03:27so young and I feel like, yeah, I would really be excited to see how she transforms on stage
03:32because I feel like she's that type of girl.
03:34When you meet her in person, she's very sweet, very kind of demure, very sweet.
03:40But then on stage, she unlocks a different part of herself.
03:43She's really a performer.
03:44So, I'm very excited to see how that comes alive on the Mexico stage.
03:48Did you monitor her journey?
03:50A little bit, yes.
03:51Because I'm also close friends with her designer, Manny Halasan.
03:54Oh, okay.
03:55Yeah, so I wasn't able to have a sit down with her although I reached out multiple times
04:00but I feel like she's very busy.
04:02Oh, wow.
04:03So, I also understand the schedule that comes along with being a representative.
04:07So, I understand that now she's in the US and I'm wishing her the best.
04:10At least she's able to adjust to the time zone.
04:12Sana able to rest so that she can give it her all come day one of Miss Universe.
04:17Any advice to Chelsea?
04:20Oh, I always say to really remember why you went on that journey in the first place.
04:26And it can be anything that resonates with you whether it's opening new opportunities
04:31or doors for yourself or elevating your community or for a cause or for the country.
04:36Just to hold on to that anchor because throughout the exhaustion and the long schedules
04:40and all the ups and downs that comes with being a Miss Philippines,
04:43that's what you really need to hold true to.
04:46And just enjoy because I look back on it now and it feels like a blip.
04:51You're enjoying it now?
04:52Yeah, it was like so fast.
04:54My time was two and a half weeks in Thailand.
05:00But now looking back, it was just so fast.
05:03And I wish I could've been more present to soak in every moment
05:06because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity.
05:09It feels like you're in the Olympics.
05:11Not to draw the parallels between an Olympian and a beauty queen
05:14but you're surrounded by delegates from all over the world representing your country.
05:18And I think that's such an exciting and incredible honor to have in your lifetime.
05:22So I hope that my advice would be to be present and to remember her anchor and to just enjoy.
05:28Are you brushing up on your rapping skills?
05:32No, no, Spanish, Mexican.
05:34Oh my God, I don't have any skills there.
05:36Oh no.
05:37Maybe just for the last minute.
05:38Hola.
05:39Hola, amigas.
05:43Yeah, but that would be nice actually.
05:44I should brush up on that.
05:46The energy of Mexicans is different, right?
05:48I'm excited because I feel like the energy inside the stadium will be electric.
05:52Because I recognize that Latin America as well as the Asian communities,
05:56we really love pageants.
05:58The love of pageants is different.
06:01So I know that it will be felt.
06:04And of course, there's a large Latin delegation representing that part of the world.
06:10So I feel that it's going to be incredible.
06:12I remember two years ago, New Orleans and El Salvador.
06:15Your schedule was so hectic.
06:18You were only there for one or two days.
06:20Yes, the same.
06:21Only in Canada.
06:22Even here?
06:23Because I was about to ask if you were going to visit Mexico.
06:25Because there's an upcoming All-Star Canada.
06:28So that will be a string of concerts through Calgary and Toronto.
06:32Tickets are on sale now if anyone's interested in coming along.
06:35And then from there, we're going straight to Mexico City.
06:38So let's fight.
06:40Let's fight.
06:42And then when I come back, it will be a gala.
06:44What's a gala?
06:45That.
06:48And Leona, what can you say?
06:49A lot of fans are saying that you should be the main host.
06:52One of the main hosts.
06:53I'm very, very flattered.
06:54Actually, I was up for consideration.
06:56But it was Roku themselves as the brand streaming partner of the televised version of Miss Universe to the U.S.
07:02that really fought for me.
07:04So I'm also flattered that they really see my value as a correspondent.
07:08But yeah, it would have been a nice experience.
07:11And I hope one day, I'll be able to experience that.
07:13Yeah, one day.
07:14One day.
07:15It's like a pre-pageant.
07:18But usually, that's given to the reigning Miss Universe.
07:21Ah.
07:23Do you still prepare for this kind of hosting?
07:26Yeah, I actually like to familiarize myself with the girls as much as I can.
07:31Although there are so many and you don't know who's going to make the first cut.
07:34It would be easy to say, oh, study these 20 profiles and not the 100.
07:37I think it's 140.
07:39130 now.
07:40130.
07:41Oh, my God.
07:42It's huge.
07:43Biggest in the history.
07:44It's the biggest ever.
07:45Because as far as I know, before this year, my year was the largest with 95 or 94.
07:51But also, I would love to get to know the girls through their profile.
07:54But the profile, I think, is also such a glimpse as well.
07:57It's not really a full picture of who they are.
07:59Because I think it's a nice thing as a commentator to be able to throw in those tidbits
08:04or the stories about the girls or their countries in.
08:07But yeah, I'll try and brush up.
08:09I hope I'll be able to watch the preliminaries while I'm in Canada.
08:12Or maybe I'll be in the airplane at that time.
08:14I don't know.
08:15But best efforts.
08:16Best efforts.
08:17Love to prepare.
