00:00Selfishly, Mayo wants him out there this week, so he can pay off on his wins prediction.
00:04Maybe get another win.
00:05I don't know how many wins we predicted for the Celtics this year, Turk, but they...
00:08The number was low.
00:09The number was...
00:1058 and a half, right?
00:11I wish I...
00:12I didn't bet that.
00:13I don't know why.
00:14That was free money.
00:15Yeah.
00:16Seriously.
00:17You can win 60 games in a sleep.
00:1858 and a half?
00:19I'm not trying to bet a lot of minus 110, but that's what I should have bet.
00:20Yeah.
00:21Even if you moved it up a little bit.
00:22You can get it at plus money, probably like 59.60.
00:23Maybe.
00:24Yeah.
00:25It's free.
00:26Go a few hams.
00:27Go five hams on that.
00:28Yeah.
00:29I'm not patient enough for the future bet.
00:30Increase the payout.
00:31I'm not patient enough.
00:32I'm with you.
00:33I'm not a big future guy either.
00:34I'm like, oh, so I can lose it in six months?
00:35I can lose it tonight.
00:36Yeah.
00:37What are you doing with my money in the meantime?
00:38What are you, a bank?
00:39What are you doing with my money?
00:40Exactly.
00:41Yeah.
00:42That's a good move.
00:43I'll jam it in a mattress somewhere.
00:44So they look pretty good, huh, Turk?
00:45Yeah.
00:46I'd say so.
00:47And the biggest thing that stuck out to me in a couple of these wins is just their ability
00:50to go on these long runs that just demoralize a team.
00:53Like you look at the Detroit game.
00:56They were down by six with 5-12 left, rattled off an 18-6 run, just were flawless on both
01:01ends of the floor.
01:02Then you look in Milwaukee, that third quarter, 11-2 run capped off by a Pritchard step back
01:0726 feet at the buzzer beater that just broke Doc Rivers.
01:11And then Washington, and they had the 54, it was 54-52, they went on a 58-24 run.
01:16Their ability to just take over a game like that, it's just, it's incredible.
01:19So I think I found the Peyton Pritchard comp.
01:21You guys ready for the Peyton Pritchard comp?
01:23Yes.
01:24I signed up for it yesterday and I promised that I'd have one.
01:26Toronto Raptors championship team, Fred Van Fleet.
01:29That's too high, too low, right in the middle.
01:33Fred Van Fleet got better after Kawhi left and he became more of a go-to guy and he got
01:37paid by Houston last year.
01:39But at that time, he was a guy coming off the bench that could get hot and could get
01:42going.
01:43I feel like Pritchard every year has gotten better.
01:46And now you're looking at me like, I don't know, he could be like sixth man of the year
01:49candidate, couldn't he?
01:50Yeah.
01:51I mean, that really heated up during the preseason as well.
01:53How well he played and with him too, it's just his confidence.
01:56He shot one of 10 from the field on opening night.
01:59And since then, it's just been, he hasn't been able to miss it.
02:01It's insane.
02:02But I like that.
02:03I like that he can kind of heat up off the bench.
02:05Because he's useful and he helps this team.
02:06Like he is the kind of guy that they need because like their, their starting lineup
02:10is so good.
02:12And when you don't have poor Zingas and you have to, uh, start Horford, all right, you're
02:17like, all right, well, who's going to come off the bench, who's going to give him a minute,
02:19especially in the regular season.
02:20And like Peyton Pritchard has been able to do that.
02:23I know Sam Houser's, uh, banged up, but that's another guy that should be able to do it.
02:26What have you thought about any, uh, some of the other pieces that have played so far?
02:29Yeah.
02:30I've like the double big lineup has been interesting because especially the first two games that
02:34Sam Houser was out, they didn't go with another wing.
02:36They went with a double big instead.
02:37So a lot of people thought it was going to be Jordan Walsh, but it really wasn't.
02:41They really were tinkering with that.
02:42But I liked Jordan Walsh against Milwaukee.
02:44I thought he was good in his limited minutes, played with good energy and really filled
02:47that O'Shea Brissett role that everyone keeps talking about comparing him to.
02:51Uh, two part question.
02:52Number one, yes or no.
02:53Jason Tatum, uh, can win MVP this year.
02:57I don't see it.
02:58You don't see it.
02:59Okay.
03:00So second part of the question, does he need to be in that mix for this team to repeat?
03:05I don't think so.
03:06I mean, we saw last year that he can, cause I think with the MVP, it's so often defined
03:10by scoring and Jason Tatum has proven that he doesn't have to be defined by scoring.
03:14Look at the finals.
03:15For example, he didn't really shoot well during that series, but he led the team with points,
03:18rebounds and assist and just him using his gravity to like when teams show two at him,
03:23can he make the right read?
03:24Cause that's really the whole Celtics offense depends on getting two on one advantages and
03:28Jason Tatum is the biggest kind of creator of those because they show two on him so often.
03:33But if you're not scoring and you're not shooting well, like don't those kinds of go hand in
03:36hand.
03:37It's regardless.
03:38They're going to, he's going to get attention cause he's still going to score.
03:39It's just, is he going to score enough to be in the MVP conversation?
03:42Yeah.
03:43So to me, I, uh, I just can't imagine the path.
03:46This is easy next year.
03:47You know, people don't like to get hung up on that, but you're, it's going to have to
03:50be harder this year, I would think.
03:52And so if it is going to be more difficult, Tatum may have to elevate his game that much
03:55more.
03:56That's the only reason I think he may have to elevate his game cause you're not going
03:59to get a bunch of injured teams.
04:00I don't think.
04:01Yeah.
04:02But they also have so many different like mouths to feed too.
04:04That's another reason.
04:05Like it, it hurts him that the team is so talented for whatever reason.
04:08Like a lot of people like to bring up the conversation, like, Oh, the best player on
04:13the best team should have more warrant and more attention towards MVP.
04:17But he just doesn't get that because the team is so talented.
04:20Where if you look at like, okay, see SGA is clearly the best player on that team and they
04:24all really understand that.
04:26So he could play, he's going to play like 78 games, whatever it is, and he'll be their
04:30leading scorer and it'll be a good thing for him.
04:33Whereas it's not for Jason Tatum, which that just doesn't make any sense to me where it's
04:36always been kind of hot and cold with Tatum where it's, it's used against him in that
04:41sense, but towards other players that usually benefits.
04:43Yeah.
04:44It seems like voters already have their minds made up that it's going to be Gilchrist Alexander
04:47for some reason.
04:48He's like the favorite.
04:49Everybody talks about him.
04:50It's like the young team.
04:51That's not there yet.
04:52He is clearly the best player.
04:53There might be Jokic fatigue, but don't you think Tatum's next in line before?
04:57I heard, I heard Wiggy and Mego talking about that.
05:00You think Luke is next in line even before Tatum.
05:01Yeah.
05:02That I, that I would see more than Luka is SG, like SGA has got to wait.
05:05That's how the NBA works.
05:06Yeah, no, I know.
05:07But then I think to Terp's point, now that Tatum's team is so good, he's going to be penalized
05:12unless they win 70 games.
05:13Yeah.
05:14So that's, so they win 70 games.
05:15That changes, right?
05:16The overwhelming team success might get them into that.
05:19I mean, they had a really good record last year and they were way better than everybody
05:23else, but it didn't, that didn't matter.
05:24It wasn't the tiebreaker.
05:25He finished sixth.
05:26Fifth or sixth.
05:27In the, like that February last year, they played almost all of their games on national
05:31TV and he had one of his worst months shooting.
05:34And if you're going to like take advantage of that, cause the second half of the season,
05:37they're pretty much on national TV the whole entire time.
05:40Oh yeah.
05:41So he's going to have a real good opportunity to prove himself on the big stage when all
05:44these analysts, the people that have the votes are going to be watching.
05:47So he's going to have a chance just like he did last year to prove himself.
05:50So there was a report yesterday, a New York post that Steve Pagliuca is angling to take
05:56ownership at a discount price for the Celtics.
05:58I'm sure they'll do that.
06:00He's trying to get the other minority stakeholders to fall in line and they can leverage the
06:07situation.
06:08To me, this feels desperate.
06:10Why do the other shareholders, why do they want to devalue the franchise?
06:14Why does the rest of the NBA want to devalue the franchise?
06:17So it feels desperate to me by Pagliuca, if you had to guess Terp based on this report
06:22and what you're hearing, is it Pagliuca or someone else who will be owning the Celtics?
06:25Right now, Pagliuca is the only one that's expressed interest.
06:28Like everyone's been rumored, but nobody's explicitly said he's going to get it.
06:33I think a lot that bidding process is going to have a lot to like, it's going to dictate
06:36a lot, but I think right now he has to be the front runner because he's the only one
06:38that's talked about it.
06:39He's the only one that's actually expressed interest.
06:41But it is interesting because a couple of months ago, I think it was to the globe where
06:45Wick-Grosbeck said, there's not going to be any special perks or anything.
06:48So this is the bidding process is going to be the bidding process.
06:51And if you're the NBA, you're talking expansion, going to Vegas, coming up soon, do you really
06:55think they want to see a $6 million franchise go for 5 million when you're making a new
07:00billion?
07:01Yeah.
07:02Yeah.
07:03Yeah.
07:04If you're, if you're making a new franchise, I don't think they want to see that.
07:05Definitely not.
07:06Although I feel like if you're in that world and I know like the leagues make money, but
07:09if you're buying the Celtics, don't you come in and you're like, why are you selling the
07:12Celtics?
07:13They wouldn't.
07:14One of your first questions be like, all right, you've had a great run.
07:16You're now at his dad's making me and I know you're supposed to sell high.
07:20I get how stocks work Jones.
07:21I understand you're selling really high, but then you're like the, the payroll on the team
07:26is insane.
07:27You don't own the building that you play in, like you're paying rent to the Jacob.
07:31So I don't know, they, maybe they're not going to get the amount of money that they want.
07:35It's so, even though they're like, Hey, we're not going to sell it at a discount.
07:37It's like, well, if all the bids are 6 billion, maybe you're not going to get 7 billion reported
07:42the last year.
07:43They barely broke even.
07:44And they won 64 games at an NBA finals.
07:46Like they were the best team, but cause payroll's insane.
07:48Yeah.
07:49Payroll's insane.
07:50And that's another thing is when these luxury taxes, cause of the second apron start to
07:52kick in, you're just, you're looking at like, how is it?
07:56You can't keep this roster together.
07:57How can you justify doing that when you're paying as much in the salary and the luxury
08:02taxes are you as you are for the roster itself?
08:04Uh, Joe Mazzola wants fighting back in the NBA.
08:06Did you see that?
08:07I did see that.
08:08That's the most Joe Mazzola thing.
08:09Like straight up fighting.
08:10Remember how often was there really fighting and don't get me like, Oh yeah, when Van Gundy
08:15grabbed the ankles of like, uh, the, the heat, like, yeah, I remember that there wasn't like
08:20a lot of fighting.
08:21No.
08:22If there was a Celtic, who would be the one to throw, throw mitts?
08:24It would be players.
08:26What player?
08:27Pritchard.
08:28Pritchard.
08:29Probably.
08:30Yeah.
08:31Yeah.
08:32I bet.
08:33Like if, if you, uh, I don't know.
08:37I mean, holiday, I bet holiday could handle himself.
08:40Maybe Jalen may, he's had some opportunity to kind of get in people's faces and he kind
08:46of sort of does tell him as big dude, gentle giant.
08:49Yeah.
08:50Okay.
08:51Maybe not.
08:52Yeah.
08:53They don't really have any fighters.
08:54That's the thing.
08:55That's the other thing that stands out with the Celtics.
08:56Like they don't have any dinks or like wild cards where you're like, well, as long as
08:58this guy stays out of trouble, they're going to be okay.
09:00Like they don't really have that right at all.
09:02It's a complete one 80 from like the 2018 where all of those, they were just all dogs
09:06and Morris and those guys, you had people who would throw down.
09:11Yeah.
09:12Not anymore.
09:13No, no, no, no, no, no.
09:14All right.
09:15Terp every Wednesday here on Jones and Keith Celtics Wednesday.
09:17We talked to Terp, get the latest on what's going on with the team.
09:19We'll do a Bruins Thursday tomorrow with Razor at 1230, I think normally at 1130.
09:24Yeah.
09:25He's traveling with the team traveling.
09:26Uh, so we'll get him a little later on in the program.
09:28Uh, Terp, we appreciate it.
09:29Thanks so much.
09:30All right guys.
09:31Thank you Terp.
