00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. is leading the opening of a Logistics Distribution Center in Laguna today.

00:21That is how President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. described the opening of the MERS Optimus Distribution Center in Laguna that he led.

00:41With the grand opening of the MERS Optimus Distribution Center,
00:46our logistics system will be a step closer to become a powerful force,
00:51bridging our islands, breathing life into our industries, our businesses,
00:56bringing together our people on a path towards sustained development.
01:00The MERS Optimus Distribution Center attests to the shared vision of MERS Philippines and Solid Group Incorporated,
01:09a vision for a more inclusive and sustainable growth.
01:13It will also pave the way for stronger import and export activities, especially in the Calabarzon,
01:19which will result in the strengthening of the supply chain,
01:22the expansion of the administration's desire for Manila to be decongested,
01:25and the expansion of opportunities in the province, especially in the construction of jobs.
01:29In the coming years, the MERS Optimus Distribution Center is expected to create employment for 1,000 people
01:38in its surrounding communities and indirect employment for another 1,000 individuals,
01:45from vendors and service providers to truckers and beyond.
01:48When a large plant such as this is put up in a community,
01:54the downstream employment that comes, both the full employment and partial employment,
02:01is usually three times the direct employment in the facility.
02:08So, it is a great boon to the local community.
02:11The President also praised the company's efforts to build a warehouse and distribution center
02:16that will be sustainable in the future,
02:18in line with the government's vision to achieve net zero carbon emissions.
02:23From utilizing solar power to reduce its grid consumption by 30 percent,
02:28to deploying electric vehicles for the last mile services,
02:33it is committed to earning a gold certification under the leadership in energy and environmental design.
02:41Environmental stewardship is a cornerstone of this administration's agenda,
02:45and it is heartening to see the private sector partners echoing this commitment.
02:51It is more critical as we face natural calamities such as the typhoons and storms
02:56that have intensified because of climate change.
02:59The MERS Optimus Distribution Center has a 76,000-pallet storage capacity
03:04that will serve as a transport hub for Central Luzon.
03:07It also has a 75-dock for outbound and inbound operations.
03:11This is the largest warehouse and distribution hub of the company.
03:15Meanwhile, the President gave a directive to local governments
03:19to prepare for the possible effects of the Leon Tsunami,
03:22which is currently affecting extreme northern Luzon.
03:26Unfortunately, it seems that it will come again.
