Transcript
00:00Here you can see that the U.S. Attorney General Matthew Miller held a press conference and
00:05asked the U.S. Congress for questions related to the letter.
00:09Matthew Miller said, we have received a letter.
00:12We will respond to the Iraqi Congress at the appropriate time.
00:14What else did he have to say, we will find out from Jahanzaib Ali.
00:17Tell us, Jahanzaib.
00:19See, this is the question I asked.
00:21More than 60 U.S. Congressmen have written letters to President Biden.
00:27I asked him, what is your position?
00:29He said, we have received a letter.
00:31We will respond to the Iraqi Congress at the appropriate time.
00:34I asked him another question.
00:36The next day after this letter, the Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights,
00:41Monica Jacobson, met with government officials in Pakistan.
00:46Two days after that meeting, Bani PTI's sisters and their wife were released.
00:51I asked him, is there any role in this?
00:55He said, this meeting was to strengthen the civil society in Pakistan and
01:02strengthen the democratic institutions in Pakistan.
01:05However, he did not answer this question.
01:07I asked him again, do you think that the rest of the U.S. did not play a role in
01:12the release of Imran Khan's sisters and his wife?
01:15He said, I will not talk about this issue anymore.
01:19In response to another question, Matthew Miller said that he wants to see
01:22the democratic institutions be strengthened in Pakistan.
01:24He wants to see democracy in Pakistan.
01:27The U.S. will continue to play a role in this.
01:33Let's see what Matthew Miller had to say.
01:38Last week, more than 60 members of Congress sent a letter to President Biden
01:44urging him to secure some guarantees from the Pakistani government for the
01:48safety of Imran Khan in prison.
01:50Do you have any position on that letter?
01:52Only that we've received it will respond in due course to the members.
01:56The day after this letter, the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary for
02:00Democracy and Human Rights, Monica Jacobson, met with the Federal Secretary of
02:06Pakistan on Human Rights, Alla Dino Khwaja in Islamabad to discuss human rights.
02:11I don't know if it's a coincidence or what, the next day after that meeting,
02:14Imran Khan's sisters and his wife were released from the prison.
02:17Imran Khan's supporters claim that it is because of Biden administration.
02:20Did this administration play any role in the release of political prisoners in Pakistan?
02:24All I would say about that is that the Deputy Assistant Secretary in that meeting
02:28emphasized the important role human rights, support for a vibrant civil society,
02:32and strong democratic institutions play in our comprehensive U.S.-Pakistan relationship.
02:36We want to see democracy upheld in Pakistan, including everyone's fundamental
02:42right to participate in democracy and exercise their fundamental human freedoms.
