00:00Speaking of fantastic, I watched the game, I took all these notes, and all I want to
00:09talk about is the most gangster empty net goal in the history of hockey.
00:16What Rasmussen did to Hughes last night was awesome.
00:22I'm not even mad at Hughes.
00:23If you haven't seen this highlight, I mean, gangster empty net goal.
00:30There are empty net goals and there are empty net goals.
00:34Look, sometimes the empty net goal is fantastic because somebody shoots it from 180 feet away
00:38and it goes in, or they bank it, you know, and 60 feet later it ends up in the net.
00:43There's some great efforts that end up guys being tackled, dragged down, and you sprawl
00:47on the ice, but swings a stick and it scores an empty net goal.
00:50Those are great.
00:51But what Rasmussen did last night is it's a simple tap in, but it's not the tap in.
00:58Doug, describe what happened after the tap.
01:00There's like 20 seconds to go in a game and the wings dump the puck out and Rasmussen
01:05chases it into the corner and he's the only one in the screen.
01:08He's the only one you see.
01:10And obviously the devils, it's four, three red wings of devils.
01:13You know, you wonder, are they giving up or somebody skating back hard and I'm watching
01:16on TV.
01:17So I didn't see.
01:18Rasmussen picks up the puck in the corner and again, all you can see is Rasmussen on
01:22the screen, picks up the puck, empty net, and is going to skate out in front and just
01:26tap it in.
01:27He's got to stuff it.
01:28Well, here comes Jack Hughes, full speed to his credit, right?
01:34He's not giving up.
01:35He's trying hard.
01:36He skates back and absolutely runs into a tree trunk of Michael Rasmussen.
01:44Rasmussen tips it in.
01:47Jack Hughes hits him and just is down, like immediately down and ran into a brick wall.
01:54He ran into a brick wall, which Rasmussen by comparative, I have to look up the sizes,
01:58but comparatively speaking, Rasmussen is listed at 6'6 and 220 pounds.
02:06He's a bit wiry.
02:07Jack Hughes is listed at 5'11 and a buck 75.
02:11Okay.
02:12So basically 45 pounds difference and seven inches.
02:17Yeah.
02:19And then Rasmussen, I was like, was it Ali Frazier, the famous boxing photo where Ali
02:25standing over him was, it was a Frazier that he, that that picture was taken, the great
02:29black and white.
02:30It wasn't Ali Frazier.
02:31It's another, I forget which fighter it was when he thought he was throwing the fight,
02:33but yeah.
02:34Okay.
02:35So anyway, uh, it was awesome.
02:38Standing over him, just go right in his face.
02:43I mean, in his, down to his face, not in his face, by the way, Sonny Liston.
02:48It was fantastic.
02:50And then of course the devils take exception.
02:54They start to skate over and it's like, what are you going to do?
02:57Rasmussen didn't throw an elbow.
02:59He didn't throw his shoulder into the guy's head.
03:02He scored a goal and protected himself.
03:03He didn't even protect himself.
03:05He braced for impact.
03:08And because he's so much bigger, Hughes just bounced off of him like it was nothing.
03:14And Hughes was worse for wear and it was hysterical.
03:16It was a game that was a chippy game.
03:19It ends up being chippy and maybe it's going to spice things up for the next time they
03:23match up.
03:24Well, and, and it wasn't what Rasmussen did up until he, he posed over him.
03:31Well, that's what they took exception to.
03:34And I have no problem with them taking exception.
03:37I'll just say, I'm, you know, you watch entire seasons, seasons are long, but then you get
03:44stuff that happens, you get stuff that happens in games and that you just wonder if that
03:51is like going to be indicative of this team going to take that and run.
03:55So they play again.
03:56The next time they play, it's another home game for the Red Wings.
04:03It is going to be fun.
04:06It's the Friday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday affair, and it's a three o'clock puck
04:12drop.
04:13Wow.
04:14Wow.
04:15At LCA.
04:16Okay.
04:17That could be fun.
04:21So look, if this becomes, if this team like gets a little juice out of this, good for
04:28them.
04:29They've won three in a row now.
04:30And, you know, after that start, it's so early drawing any conclusions.
04:35I'm going to say it, they're riding this Rasmuson thing.
04:38Well, I think it's interesting because, you know, we're, you're watching the game and
04:42it's like, okay, great win, great win.
04:44And you're thinking, okay, what are the Red Wings two, three games below 500?
04:47No, they're four and three on the season.
04:50Yep.
04:51They've actually, they've got a winning record right now.
04:53If the playoffs began today, they'd be in the playoffs.
04:56It's just a couple of games, leave a bad taste in your mouth.
05:00And you forget that, oh, wait a minute, they have, they have a couple of shutouts already.
05:04They've played well enough in these games.
05:06So, you know, they have three nothing shutout, a one nothing shutout, and they've scored
05:08five goals in the other two wins that they have.
05:10So it's a work in progress, but I love what I saw last night.
05:15And I really loved when you saw they had all the beef at the one time, you had Rasmuson
05:19out there with Edmondson and Sider, the defensive pairing.
05:22I mean, you see those three guys on the ice, I think that's intimidating seeing 6-4, 6-6
05:27and 6-6.
05:28You can be intimidating that way.
05:29The other thing is you mentioned they're four and three, right?
05:32Yes.
05:33Correct me if I'm wrong.
05:34And this is now an issue.
05:35This is something I'm going to pay attention to.
05:37And this is something that.
05:38And they've won three in a row.
05:40Yes.
05:41Yeah.
05:42They're this.
05:43This is something that I'm now going to pay way more attention to and celebrate it every
05:45time it happens.
05:47Aren't all four.
05:49Regulation wins.
05:50Yes.
05:51Yes, they are.
05:53Stupid tiebreaker.
05:57But yes, regulation wins.
05:58Yes, the team has scored 20 goals and they've given up 20 goals.
06:02I think the tiebreaker should be badassery on empty net goals.
06:06Oh, you think so?
06:07I think that's what should be the tiebreaker.
06:08Well, I like it.
06:09I like it if that's the case.
