00:00We haven't seen a playoff baseball game since Sunday night when the Dodgers
00:09clinched the National League pennant. The Yankees haven't been in action in nearly
00:13a week since clinching their first American League pennant in 15 years on
00:17Saturday night in Cleveland. Finally the opening day of the World Series begins
00:23on this Friday. It is game number one at Chavez Ravine in downtown Los Angeles.
00:30It's two of the most iconic brands in sport but certainly in Major League
00:34Baseball squaring off for a title. It's the Yankees, it's the Dodgers in the 2024
00:41Fall Classic. The 12th ever time these two teams have met in a World Series. If
00:46you are baseball this is what you want. Now Joe there have been some that said
00:51it's the two richest payrolls in this sport. It's these two frontrunners that
00:56always are buying people and not earning what they are given. It is iconic so
01:01enjoy the prestige of this World Series. Game number one tonight the Dodgers a
01:07home favorite. Jack Flaherty gets the nod for Dave Roberts of course the ace
01:11on the other side for the Pinstripes in Gary Cole which dictates of course the
01:16outright price for this World Series. The Dodgers an ever so slight outright
01:20favorite at minus 122. The series total games over five and a half has the
01:26hefty Vig at minus 180. The Yankees on the series spread is plus one and a half
01:33at minus 190. Joe just to make it a little bit more you know layperson if
01:38you will for the Yankees to cash the plus one and a half they would either
01:42have to lose in seven games or they would have to win the World Series which
01:47goes to show you that the Dodgers are the outright favorites but the Yankees
01:50getting a game and a half in the series spread the oddsmakers think this one is
01:54destined for seven. Will it live up to the hype and the excitement here in
01:59these next few weeks? You have to think it will Ben with the firepower on
02:05both of these sides and Major League Baseball would love nothing more than to
02:12get seven games out of Judge versus Otani with a Mookie Betts Juan Soto side
02:19show mixing a little Garrett I mean the storylines in this are just over the top
02:26not to mention Mr. October himself Giancarlo Stanton I mean when you when
02:31you go down to lineups and what these two teams are bringing to this this is
02:35now the 12th meeting in the World Series between these two franchises it is the
02:39most common World Series matchup in the history of the sport Ben and that tells
02:46you how big these two franchises are to have them on center stage with the
02:51biggest names in the sports this could very well go down as the biggest World
02:56Series most popular World Series we've seen in a very long time and that's
03:00saying something given all the competition we have these days this
03:03ain't the 50s with Mickey Mantle and nobody else to watch this is a totally
03:08different era and I think it's gonna be the most watched World Series ever
03:12especially if it goes seven games listen it is going to be sensational in
03:17the series correct score market that's shortest price that is the team to win
03:21and in how many games it's the Dodgers in six at plus 420 but then it's the
03:26Dodgers in seven at plus 470 and then the Yankees in seven at five to one
03:31those three outcomes the three shortest and most likely decisions in this World
03:38Series separated by just 80 cents under a buck of course this will be the 12th
03:43all-time meeting in a fall classic between the pinstripes and the Dodgers
03:49the Yankees have been dominant in the head-to-head they have won eight of the
03:53first 11 the most recent one was in 1981 where LA flipped the script because of
04:01this young rookie who won NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young the only guy to
04:06ever do so his name Fernando Valenzuela and of course Joe it was sad news in
04:11the baseball world earlier this week Fernando passing away at the age of 64
04:17he was a guy that turned Los Angeles on its head in the early 80s he was a
04:22revolution for this Dodgers organization there will be many celebrations of the
04:27great Dodger Fernando Valenzuela tonight and of course that atmosphere only adds
04:32to the energy ahead of the opening game of this World Series let's compare these
04:37two teams Joe the Dodgers through the NLDS had to knock off the Padres in
04:42five games there was a time they trailed in that series with their season on the
04:47brink in San Diego Dave Roberts said all right bullpen game let's get him out
04:52there and Ryan Brazier and the rest of the crew did deliver they were dominant
04:57in the set against the Mets New York did take two games high scoring in all
05:02six the margins in those games not exactly tight the shortest margin the
05:07Mets winning game two by four runs every game in the American League
05:12Championship Series for the Yanks over the Guardians in five three runs or less
05:19Joe but tell the tape the path to this fall classic who do you think has looked
05:24better who do you think has had a more favorable path to this World Series how
05:28do you compare these two squads well I think the let's just call the lineups a
05:34wash because and looking at some of these numbers we all know the top half
05:39of the order is about as star power driven as you're going to see in any
05:43major league baseball team the reason the Dodgers and the Yankees in this
05:48postseason are here right now is because of what the bottom half of the orders
05:54have done in the postseason Ben you've got the seven eight nine hitters on both
05:58teams batting close to 270 in the postseason setting the table for the top
06:04of the order with the Yankees and the Dodgers and that's just bad news for
06:09anybody and that's going to be a big part of this series here is Ken the
06:14pitching staffs keep the seven eight nine hitters off the damn bases so
06:18Mookie pets and then of course turning it over for the Yankees with judge and
06:22Soto and sick can they keep those guys off the base the only advantage I see
06:28between these two teams is the Yankees rotation is that much better than what
06:34the Dodgers are going to bring to the table they need Cole to be the best they
06:38need Rodon to be the second best and then after that they got to let the bats
06:43do the work and the Yankees have a very good shot at winning this World Series
06:46and Joe that is a huge story entering this fall classic the Dodgers made many
06:52offseason acquisitions none bigger of course than Shohei Otani but Yoshi
06:57Yamamoto was a prized get as well so was Tyler glass now who is the ace of the
07:02staff all year long in LA of course is out for the rest of this season has not
07:08pitched in the postseason hasn't pitched for quite some time for the Dodgers at
07:13the deadline they acquire the LA native in Jack Flaherty it's been very
07:17helter-skelter on the bookends of his three starts he was great in the opener
07:23of the NLCS against the Mets he gave up seven or runs to New York last Friday
07:28night in game number five up in Queens there is no doubt in my estimation the
07:33Yankees have that pitching edge you could argue the Padres did and it was
07:37pretty much even with the Mets and the Dodgers as well but what's so
07:42fascinating Joe about this Dodgers team an offensive all-star lineup Ohtani
07:48Betts Freeman you can keep going Max Muncy went healthy Will Smith Teoscar
07:53Hernandez the home run derby champ Kike Hernandez has been incredible in this
07:59postseason so when you look at the Dodgers who in their four wins in the
08:03National League Championship Series against New York scored at least eight
08:06runs in all four all right what Shohei Otani hit six home runs ran away with
08:11NLCS MVP Muncy was great at the dish Mookie Betts does ever Tommy Edmund the
08:16guy who had him played all year for st. Louis acquired at the deadline with
08:21Michael Kopech by the way who started game number six for LA batted 407 he had
08:2711 RB eyes and was the NLCS MVP the fact that that is happening for the Dodgers
08:34at this most significant time of course of their calendar year it's just
08:38monumental for LA yeah it truly is I mean it's and boy wouldn't it would it
08:45have been nice to have somebody like Kershaw available to him here as well
08:50and right wouldn't it have been great to have him just to add another stroke that
08:56a fire for storylines having Kershaw out there would have been fantastic but hey
09:00listen similar paths different different obstacles to get over for both these
09:06teams but at the end of the day great pitching or great hitting wins a World
09:11Series which is it back we shall see live right here on the early line it's
09:17the opening day of the 2024 World Series Joe before we break down game number one
09:22the pitching matchup between the Yankees Garrett Cole and the Dodgers Jack
09:26Flaherty here are the World Series MVP odds a slight change from the top ten of
09:32yesterday Garrett Cole was not in the top ten now he is at 33 to 1 the favor to
09:38show hey oh Tony makes a ton of sense at a short price at plus 230 Aaron judge
09:43who's going to win American League MVP at 5 to 1 of course judge has not been
09:48overly prolific or productive in this postseason for the Yankees Juan Soto has
09:53plus 550 Rookie Betts has for LA plus 750 and Giancarlo Stanton five home runs
10:00in this playoff run for the pinstripes all five long balls in the sixth inning
10:06or later he has been absolutely clutch for New York and notice that Joe of the
10:11five best prices three play for New York only two bets in Otani play for the
10:17World Series favorites in LA yeah it's kind of bonkers isn't it but I guess
10:24really that's the way it should be right you got the game's best in both divisions
10:28leading their teams to to a chance at a World Series title the interesting thing
10:34there is the Freddie Freeman story given the fact that his ankle has been trashed
10:40and don't forget Ben the championship series I mean he's listed as a 30 to 1
10:45MVP right now he may not even play in a couple of these games he became a
10:51liability at first base he's hitting you know 200 in the postseason this guy was
10:56Mr. always postseason here but that ankle could be a very big issue for the
11:02Dodgers and for Freddie Freeman moving forward so it would be great if he was
11:06healthy but I I think Freeman's gonna be a non-factor in this series and I think
11:11that's advantage Yankees and then you look at the rest of the board of course
11:15after the top five and it's for Dodgers led by Matt Muncie Teoscar Hernandez you
11:21mentioned Frederick and Freddie Freeman and Kiki Hernandez not even the NLCS MVP
11:26in Tommy Tommy Edmond for LA makes that top 10 yesterday Cole was 35 to 1 $2
11:33shaved off the price at 33 to 1 the anticipation Joe if the Yankees are
11:38going to win this World Series title it starts tonight in game number one with
11:43an absolute ace domination by Garrett Cole he has been solid for the Yankees
11:49throughout this postseason he was lights out to cringe the set against the
11:54Kansas City Royals he hasn't been necessarily dominant in his other two
11:58outings but he has been good Jack Flaherty for the Dodgers game up four
12:03earned runs in his opening start against San Diego that was game number two blank
12:08the Mets and only allowed two hits in the opening game of the NLCS and then
12:13got robbed for seven earned last Friday night in Queens against the Amazons it's
12:18been some good with a lot of bad here for Flaherty in the postseason and here
12:24are the odds for game number one tonight at the ravine downtown LA first pitch
12:29scheduled just after 8 p.m. Eastern the Dodgers a slight favorite four cents of
12:34difference Joe that's it from the outright price to win a World Series to
12:39the numbers for game number one on the money line total eight and a half maybe
12:43not what you would expect in the opening game of a World Series with the
12:48aces on the bump but of course as we saw in all six games in that NLCS for the
12:54Dodgers and Mets at least eight runs in all six nine plus over this number in
13:00five of those six contests yeah it's kind of it's an interesting number Ben
13:06given the fact that you know both teams have had some time to rest here and
13:11you've got you know the aces on the mound here this is going to be an
13:16interesting one here is this going to be a 2-1 3-1 kind of game or is this going
13:21to be are the bullpens are going to come in earlier than expected and that's
13:26going to be a problem moving forward listen we knew the some of these series
13:30would be an over series we didn't expect it to be an over series with the
13:33Guardians and Yankees but we certainly got some runs in that series didn't we
13:37and the same thing with the Dodgers and the Mets so yeah I get why the market is
13:43there but I'd be way more inclined to look at an under in this spot than I
13:47would in over in game one it's almost just based on principle the opening game
13:53of the World Series with both teams having some days off and at least at
13:57this moment their ace of the staff on the bump one legitimate ace in Gary Cole
14:02not taken away from Jack Flaherty it would have been Tyler Glass now had he
14:06been healthy just all to say that number should be seven seven and a half
14:11it is eight and a half but Joe to your point the Dodgers of course explosive in
14:15the offensive ranks against the Mets and frankly all year it's not like the
14:19Yankees and the Guardians were devoid of offense in that series all five games
14:24with at least seven runs three of the five would have been over this total of
14:28eight and a half but again Joe when you break down this series depth of
14:33offensive lineup you probably give the edge to the Dodgers the superstars are
14:37the superstars maybe performing top to bottom better for the Dodgers right now
14:41at the dish because Aaron judge has not been all that great in the postseason
14:46much better late in that series against the Guardians but the pitching matchup
14:51and the advantage that's in favor of New York which will be represented tonight
14:55with Derek Cole on the bump what do the Yankees need out of coal to win game
15:01number one tonight in LA they need him to be the best pitcher in the series and
15:07they need him to be the ace it's that simple I mean listen give Flaherty all
15:11the credit in the world there have been questions about his health since he's
15:16been traded man and and he has shown signs of a little bit of fatigue and
15:21maybe some arm issues there but he is a gutty dude without a doubt I mean he has
15:28given up three runs or more and five of his last six starts don't forget he had
15:32that eight run outing against the Padres back in the middle of October so he is
15:39he's the biggest question mark they need coal to go out and be coal the reason
15:45they gave you that bag of money was for this spot right here nothing else
15:49matters go out and shut down the Dodger lineup and win game one of the World
15:54Series in terms of those offensive superstars Aaron judge has the shortest
15:59price to hit a home run he hit a long ball and back-to-back games in the ALCS
16:04games two and three against the Guardians but again in this postseason
16:09for judge he is just five of 31 batting 161 Shohei Otani good throughout the
16:16postseason Mookie Betts has delivered as well you mentioned the ankle injury to
16:21Freddie Freeman we'll see how prolific he can be
16:24Juan Soto and Giancarlo Stanton though the main drivers of this Yankees offense
