00:00Hi, I'm Theo with Manchester World, and there are tons and tons of things that make this city so, so special and unique and incredible.
00:07And over the last couple of days, I've been out on the street asking people for their opinions on what that is.
00:11So, here's just a couple of their answers.
00:13I think, for me anyway, what makes Manchester unique would be, I think it's the social welcoming side of being in the north of another as well.
00:20But I think Manchester as a community is very friendly and very welcoming.
00:24There's always something to do in Manchester.
00:26Whether or not you're into graphic design or sculpting or any sort of art or indeed humanities.
00:30We've got museums, we've got galleries, we've got bars that do drink and jaws, if you're into that sort of thing as well.
00:37Yeah, very diverse, lots of different cultures, backgrounds, vibrant place, lots of music.
00:42It's just a great place, it's just fun, it's good fun.
00:45Oh yeah, best city in the UK by a million miles.
00:48Yes, and the people.
00:49Definitely, and the people of course.
00:51But perhaps the thing that makes Manchester stand out so much is how welcoming it is to people from different creeds, races, genders, sexualities and all of these brilliant things.
01:00Any of them can find their own personal community here.
01:03So, I'm going to visit a few of those community hubs now and just show you where you might be able to find your home if you lived in this incredible city.
01:10Now, we've got to start in the northern quarter and we've got to start at Afflecks.
01:14I'm not going to talk too much about it because we've done tons of videos on it in the past.
01:17But you can find any sort of community here, be it records, tattoos, piercings or wacky t-shirts.
01:22It's the beating heart of the northern quarter, which is the beating heart of Manchester.
01:26Second Pebble of the Peak is completely the opposite side of the coin.
01:30Whereas the northern quarter can feel new and exciting, the Pebble of the Peak has stood there for hundreds of years.
01:34The staff are lovely, it still pours a lovely pint and you really can make this place your home.
01:40The thing that really gives Manchester its heart is its communities.
01:44And one of the most prominent communities in Manchester is that that exists in the Gay Village.
01:48So, I'm going to visit Shallows Studio, which is a sort of piercing tattoo studio here in Manchester's Gay Village.
01:55And that's sort of the perfect place to represent what that community is.
01:59And again, Shallows is completely the opposite side of the spectrum.
02:02It is the perfect representation of Manchester's gay, quirky, brilliant, talented, expressive community.
02:08It is in an abandoned swimming pool and you have just amazing, talented artists working down there on tattoos, piercings, amazing fingernails.
02:16It looks exciting and we can't wait to pop along soon for a proper video there.
02:20So, there you are. I mean, between Affleck's, Shallows.
02:24You have such a diverse crowd that they're being catered to and everyone is being catered to.
02:29Even when we look at sort of the history of the place.
02:32You've got some of the oldest pubs in the country right here in the city.
02:35And then you've got shuffleboard themed bars and exciting new places popping up every week.
02:40This is a city that is alive, that is thriving.
02:42And for everyone here, they love it.
02:45And it's easy to see why.
02:47But really, they're the ones that make Manchester unique.
02:49They're the ones with the ideas for these great new places.
02:52They're the ones with a desire to keep the old places open.
02:54And they're what make Manchester, Manchester.
02:57So, from Manchester World, I'm Theo Houston-Betts.
