00:00An activist has slammed a hospital in Kuala Lumpur over alleged mistreatment of a social
00:05worker who was seeking urgent medical care for a refugee infant facing vision loss.
00:11Yayasan Chowkit co-founder Hartini Zainuddin lambasted the hospital's administrative staff,
00:16calling their hostile behavior unprofessional and inhumane, especially when third parties
00:20offered to help with payment.
00:23Hartini said non-citizens are already burdened by healthcare costs with fees 24 to 300 times
00:28higher than those charged to citizens.
00:32She said that as Malaysia has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of
00:35the Child, the best interests of children must be a top priority regardless of their
00:40status.
00:42She also highlighted that Malaysia has established legal frameworks through the Child Act 2001
00:46specifically to protect all children's rights and welfare.
00:50She also said the hospital staff's behavior stood in contrast to the Islamic principles
00:54of compassion and mercy as taught by the Prophet Muhammad.
00:59She urged the hospital to address the pattern of unprofessional behavior towards social
01:02workers and vulnerable patients.
